Hey guys, thought this would be useful.
It’s already been mentioned in the SSFIV Akuma thread, I do think it deserves it’s own topic though.
Gamogo did a great job for sharing the Akuma hitbox videos on his youtube channel and posting a zip file that has the hitbox images separately.
FYI, that isn’t my Youtube channel - that belongs to another fellow.
I’ll put my screen grabs on imageshack and create a thread here.

Wow it would appear that Akuma’s crouch MK is actually better than Ryu’s in terms of hitbox since Akuma’s hittable box is reduced even more than Ryu’s. Other than that the two kicks appear the same. Ryu’s MP is still better tho.
Going by the numbers in the images, Ryu’s cr.MK still has slightly more reach. However, Akuma’s has better priority, since the difference between his outer reach and own hitbox is greater.
Conversely, AKuma’s cr.MP has greater reach than Ryu’s, however doesn’t cover as close to his own body (not sure how that would ever come up though)
For those who don’t know, priority is determined as the difference between the furthest reach of your attack box, and the furthest reach of your hitbox.
wow… if akuma got more active frames then his c.mk is just plain better than ryu’s … anyone know this data for vanilla? Did akuma always crouch lower or did they maybe lower it more to allow for even better c.mk ultra AA-ing?
I don’t know what 0.09 of a difference in reach equates to in game, but I have a feeling its rather inconsequential for the most part.
As for the c.mp, ehh… ryu’s is better but it hardly makes a difference in the grand scheme of things.
Gamogo… mind throwing up a link to c.hp comparison? I know akuma’s will kill ryu’s, I just kinda wanna see it (partly for how far forward it goes as well).
Assuming they’re using the same scale they always have, .09 means 9/100 of a training stage grid box.

judging from that and based on Muken’s reply that says:
I’d guess that akuma’s c.mk is better than ryu’s and that kind of explains why ryu’s tend to default to sweep after a tatsu, and why akuma’s c.mk beats it (and probably most things they would try) every time.
Edit: in fact the only thing I could think of that has enough startup and priority to beat akuma’s c.mk after ryu’s tatsu would either hit your c.mk for very very little damage or it would have too high of a startup. I say this without any knowledge of Ryu’s combos off of, say c.lk.
Crouching heavy punch:
I personally haven’t ripped out any of Ryu’s data yet.
I feel Akuma’s c.hp has lost a bit of its dominance in Super too. Its still very effective but I catch myself trading often - far more than it ever did in vanilla.
All of Akuma’s attacks with hitbox display:
do you have a video of ryu’s cr.MK hit box?
its not on youtube anymore
Don’t make me laugh. Regardless of what the images look like; when it comes to in-game utility, the difference in reach between Ryus cr.MK and Akumas is massive and Ryus is 2 frames more difficult to sweep/counter-poke and gives better meaty frames when you’re using it at max range.
Ryus cr.MK is godly and that’s after it was toned-down from vanilla.
Sorry for necro’ing, but I believe it must be said that:
1- Akuma’s c.mp has MORE reach, not less (you didn’t align the yellow dot, and you can actually read the range on the picture… vertical first, horizontal after… it’s the distance from the yellow dot, to the most extended pixel on the red hitbox afaik).
2- Akuma’s c.mk lowers his hitbox a lot more. It’s absolutely great for avoiding jumping attacks (but this is old news).
The point is: his c.mp has indeed more range. I always noticed that because c.mp usually hits after a far.hk most of the time.
(nevermind, someone necro’d it before me :D)
