Super Street Fighter 4 3D Edition & GEN

Well guys, I decided to buy the 3DS and of course I got SSFIV… I spend long hours on the train everyday to go to university and this handheld console is a nice addition to my books and iMac.
I’ve been testing the game for a few hours and I think now I can share my impressions with you, especially as a Gen player.

As you probably read, the game is basically SSFIV as we know it, with some additions (like the new behind-the-shoulders-view… useless, and the street pass which is nice instead) and static backgrounds. The game controls are surprisingly good… the d-pad is rather precise, much better than the xbox 360 one at least (which is actually awful). It’s not a joystick but after a couple of days I can do all moves, super and ultra quite easily… strangely enough I have problems with jumping from time to time, maybe it’s a problem with the position of my thumb.

Regarding Gen… at first I was quite desperate, I’ve to admit it. Now it’s not bad. I finished the arcade mode a few times on maximum difficulty and played some online matches as well. Ah, playing against guys who use the “lite mode” is a bit annoying, especially when you notice they’re scrubs but they can be “dangerous” since they can mash the special moves (the real problem is the moves can be performed in new ways you don’t expect, because of the lite mode). I mostly played against people who use “pro controls” for this reason.
Anyway, back to Gen, forget the idea of changing stance with the three punches/kicks, it’s impossible. I configured the buttons so that I have all kicks and punches on the four front buttons + two dorsal buttons… the two dorsal ones are not as good as the front ones but I can’t complain. I set the all 3 kicks and all 3 punches on two of the four touch pad buttons and it works since I can easily reach them with my right thumb.
I don’t manage to change stance during a combo… unless I concentrate on doing it, but besides this, my Gen does his job.
The only other thing that bothers me is Oga. I don’t understand why sometimes I accidentally pull out a jump instead of Oga… on Xbox 360 I never miss any and on 3ds I can perform the Jyasen 100% of the times. It’s just Oga that from time to time… seems weird with the charge movement.
On the positive side, I’ve the feeling that some combos (I tested only the simplest ones) have less strict timing… especially the mantis standing medium punch seems to have a wider window. But maybe it’s just me.

Well, I guess that’s all… if you have any question, feel free to ask me!

I was playing on my buddies 3DS and it was pretty fun for a handheld. worked very well.
