Super Street Fighter 2

Hi all! Great great site and forum btw!

Ok , this is all about one thing really , but it will add up as time goes by.
Im gonna ask a bunch of uberannoying questions here and you can try to answer at your own will:rolleyes:

First off : Using Ken , how on earth do i take down 8star Ryu? It seems near impossible!?!?

…the cpu has instant reaction speed. You don’t want to be doing anything other than turtling and waiting for him to do something that has long recovery. Ken is pretty retarded spamming his fierce dps.

Which version of the game are you playing? SNES? Genesis? Arcade? If you’re playing SNES, then 8 star Ryu is fucking annoying but is a cakewalk once you figure out all his AI exploits. Try not to go air-to-air against him because his j.hk beats out ANYTHING unless you do an instant j.hk and hit him while you’re below him. It’s also dumb how he can do a gazillion cr.lks and link into a sweep and it ACTUALLY combos! Don’t let him land a j.roundhouse on you or you’ll eat a lot of damage. NEVER use cr.mp outside of combos since he will punish it with a dp on reaction. Any time he jumps at you, do a DP or s.hk. If he ever does a fierce dp, punish him with a cr.mk xx fierece dp as it’s more than likely to dizzy him and you get to combo him again. There are times when he’s almost out of life when he’ll just stand there for a bit and he’ll either do a hurricane kick or fierce dp. He almost always goes for the fierce dp, finish him off then.

So far , im playing it a bit safe , trying not to get into too many fireball fights. I also always throw him after his f.DP coz thats the only thing that seems consistant.
And yeah , ive figured that air-fighting is useless… So I do strong DP`s whenever he jumps alltho its quite hard coz his timing is quite sick.

BTW , this is the snes version yes.

Thanks for the replies

Yeah, before I managed to get the arcade version of the game, I played the SNES verison a lot and 8 star Ryu was my most hated opponent for the reasons stated above. I hated him so much that there were times when I would pick every single character in the roster just to find the different ways I could abuse him. lol

Also when fighting against Ryu as Ken, when he starts fireball spamming, time your jump-in at just the right time so you can land a combo. The most reliable combo is j.hk, cr. mk xx hk hurricane kick/lp. DP. Ending with the hurricane kick is more likely to dizzy him but you must absolutely get all 3 of the hits in order for it to work. If for some reason you only manage to get 2, try to do a lp.DP upon landing because more often than not he’ll try to hit you with a sweep or cr.mk, in which case he’ll just get smacked.

Im afraid to try combos on him , coz hes counters seem alsmost frame perfect. But i can to the jump-in. But what does XX mean , sry im a n00b.

“xx” means cancel into. Try jump ins enough times and you’ll eventually get the timing. If you’re really feeling bold and daring, you can try landing a full jump-in combo when he whiffs a hp.DP, timing is pretty strict though because you might land too early or you might jump-in too late.

Here is a video that should help you out.

Those are the things that I do to abuse the 8 star Ryu. The whiffed cr.mp was great because if you do it early enough he’ll try to punish you with lp.DP and you can just hit him for free.

OMG!!! That vid made it look soooooo easy. I managed to beat him eventually tho , but now I see i have to try again.
Also , I tried to play Ryu and beat Ken afterwards , got it on my first attempt… is he that much easier or was it just luck?

Ken is really that much easier because he tends to spam his DPs. Whenever he does a jab DP, he’ll follow it with a strong DP and then a Fierce DP. He’s pretty much just asking for punishment each time he misses a DP. And when his health starts getting low he’ll start spamming fierce DPs or alternate between that with hurricane kicks.

Ok then . Guess Ryu is the worst then.
Btw , that vid was so cool , are there similar flaws against other characters?

Next question then. How do I go against a solid Dhalsim player? I usually play chun li , Ken\Ryu and the occasional Blanka. Any pointers?
