Im not saying thatit wont fit in because he is a robot, i am not saying it wont fit in at all.(megaman is also a robot) What will it currently promote and who does the character draw in, what merits this character being in the game compared to other chars?
Though i’m 80% sure they’re going to drop him, I really hope they bring ROB back.
He was really fun and unique, though he didn’t seem to get a lot of love.
The character really have to promote anything even though it would be the wisest move from a marketing standpoint. Ice Climbers have been in since Melee and they seemingly haven’t budged at all on that ip but if they ever were to do so and put nana and popo on the cover then they’d instantly have a large group who would recognize them. This could be done in the same for Custom Robo.
Sonichuman brings up a good point. If Nintendo wants to revive a franchise, or even give a possible new franchise a nice boost before its real first game hits shelves… putting them in Smash 4 would be really smart. One of the really interesting things about fighting games is people get attached to their characters. Their music, appearance, and distinct moves give them flavor beyond what just code and hitbox interactions would on their own. Brawl certainly gave Pit a bit of a jump-start before Kid Icarus Uprising, for example.
This is actually pretty exciting when you think about it. Maybe they could do something with Custom Robo! Or any of numerous other cool ideas they had that need that publicity bump before Nintendo can justify risking a new game for them. Looking through their decades-long catalog, one finds no shortage of characters and franchises that a smart developer backed by good marketing could do a lot of great things with.

“This shows a traveling stage in the moment just after Bowser got blasted from below in the first trailer.”
So this doesn’t seem to be a new stage reveal, but simply showing off more of an earlier stage, the Super Mario 3D Land one from the reveal trailer.
^^ That looks like a scrolling stage to me.
It is; like I said, showing more of an earlier stage, as Sakurai said in the description of the pic (the line I put in quotes). At least, that’s what it sounds like at this point.
So that Super Mario 3D Land stage from the reveal trailer seems to be a scrolling stage, not just a stationary stage. I wonder what the full stage will be like…
I support the idea of more Custom Robo in the game. Was I one of the only people who bought the GCN ver? I feel like i was and was probably only one of…3? 5? that beat the whole game and finished everything…granted Like advance wars unless you knew of the game’s history it otherwise looked like some random game Nintendo threw out there to see if anyone was interested.
the gameplay was great, its just the story was terrible
Super Mario 3D land looks pretty good. I’m sure items will come out of the ? blocks just like with the previous mushroom kingdom stages. Donut block area should provide for some interesting fight situations. Pirahna might come out of that green pipe every so often.
If this is the same stage as the one from the first trailers, that seems to imply that at one point the stage will transition from a pure x/y-axis scroll to include the z-axis as well. That is a really interesting concept. I wonder if it will make the stage more competitively viable?
People are acting like I am against the idea of custom robo representation. I personally would love to glow gold on some bitches for my smash attack. My argument is what sense would it make for nintendo to put in a Custom robo robot at this point.
I see what you are saying sonichuman but ice climbers are just that, the ice climbers. They represent themselves and stand out. It would be harder for one of the robot models to be the same type of posterboy for Custom Robo. Like the guy above me said, how many people actually bought the gcn version?
He asked that question because there is very little talk(if any) about custom robo.
So again when sakurai is stressing over who to put in this game and who to ax from this version. Why choose a custom robo over any of the other characters. The benefits of doing so dont seem to outweigh the backlash he will most likely receive from doing so.
I’m not saying you are against the idea either I’m just using the Ice Climbers as reason for why it doesn’t really need to be any type of game planned. Saying ‘they’re the Ice Climbers’ doesn’t really say much since they are so below the spectrum of visibility in Nintendo’s franchises right now. They only had 1 game and it was during the NES period. Robo’s last game was at least on the DS. The posterboy for Custom Robo would be the Ray MK model. It was in as a trophy for Melee and it was an assist Trophy in Brawl and he was in the CG opening for the GCN game. It’s the most recognizable model out of them all and it’s pretty much been in all the games.
I’m not saying the Custom Robo absolutely has to have a character playable either but it would be nice to have at least 1 representive for the 5 games that Nintendo has put out even if it isn’t as popular as the others. F-Zero and Metroid could do with another representive as well but the only person I could think of for F-Zero that’s second in recognizability would be Goroh and for Metroid it’d easily be Ridley…unless they gave Mother Brain mech like suit based off it’s final boss SM design. I’d personally rather have Ridley if I had to make the choice.
You’re forgetting the best possible idea for a second Metroid rep: SA-X. …Ow! Stop throwing rocks at me!
Sorry, I’ll get serious now. They could add Young Samus as shown in Other M and… damnit! Stop shooting me!
This idea is actually half serious: a Metroid. Just imagine; “Latch on, wriggle opponent off edge of stage, laugh.” It’s like Bowsercide or Ganoncide all over again, only with even funnier noises from the Metroid. Chree… chree…
The Metroid would make a good assist trophy.
Not related to Smash 4 specifically, but related to Evo: http://shoryuken.com/2013/07/09/changes-to-evo-2013-smash-schedule/
SMDH Nintendo.
Good fuckin job Nintendo. lmao. This is why you should have just left that bullshit with youtube alone. You aren’t helping your fanbase and you’re only hurting yourself…it makes NO goddamn sense. So when people do tournaments and stuff for the new Smash they wont be able to stream freely and thus you’re missing out on free advertisment. Sigh…
Also I don’t think I’ve seen this posted:

Edit: It’s even more discouraging now that I think about it since the Smash fanatics fronted all that money to get Smash put up at Evo in the first place…lmao.
I am very disappointed by this decision; it seems as though their revenue-generation plan regarding Let’s Plays and such has been taken in an unfortunate direction. I’d say call NOA up and let them know, politely, (their phone customer reps are really stand-up folks, and they’re not the reason this happened, so please be civil) that you hope they’ll reconsider.
