you can’t talk about best 3ds games and not mention virtue’s last reward.
i didn’t think they could make a better sequel to 999 and they blew it out of the water.
That’s a very bad thing to have faith in.
And now they have to top that.
And hopefully not release it on my birthday because it makes me fucking paranoid. Well…more paranoid than usual.
I’m at least glad that he picked a middle path.
Unless by “intermediate” he meant “strictly casual.”
It’s alright! I know how that goes and have my own ‘triggers’ along those lines, many of them centering around unfair FGC stereotypes. It worked out in the end though; you had something valid to say, I listened, and… now I have to wonder where the hell I’m going to get the money for all these games in any reasonable timeframe. Yeah, that’s a “first world problem”, but it’s still simultaneously vexing and exciting. Thanks for setting me right on the 3DS library!
I remember back when ‘DLC’ came in the form of full-fledged Expansion Packs in a retail box on store shelves. Wing Commander 2, Warcraft 2, TIE Fighter, things like that. You got quite a bit for your money in those cases though and I still have fond memories of flying alongside Darth Vader in a TIE Defender. Now it seems companies are all over the board in regard to contemporary DLC, and… well, you’re right to worry. I love the idea of DLC. “More of your favorite game, at impulse buy prices!” That sounds awesome on paper.
Unfortunately… well, we’ve just discussed tons of examples that show the concept is being abused. I’d like to see Smash 4 DLC in theory, but Fire Emblem Awakening makes me worry they’d price it in the most ridiculous brackets possible despite Sakurai citing Fallout 3 as a model he likes (and I agree; those $10 DLC packs gave you interesting places to explore with decent storylines; I accept them as valid uses of DLC). That said, I’m going to ‘wait and see’ before I go urging Nintendo to make DLC for Smash 4… it may well be that the on-disc roster covers everything I care about. I’m not hard to please; between Pit, Zelda (ideally Twilight Princess form), a Fire Emblem character or two, and perhaps even Little Mac I’d be quite happy; anything else is just a bonus to me at that point.
Posting the Daily Image in this page too for reference/discussion.

omfg skauriaia lied 2 us tahts a pic of fox tripning!!!111one Edit: At time of post, the Daily Image depicted Fox’s Up-Smash (apparently). Post no longer relevant, thus.
I mean, uh… …Why the hell is he doing a Flash Kick? Or is that supposed to be Kamen Rider Garren’s Burning Drop instead? Either way that look on his face is amazing(ly stupid).
I’m pretty sure that’s his up smash, just with the new move effects that they’ve added to many attacks.
One thing I’m curious about though, is the possibility of more characters through making them alternate costumes of sorts rather than entirely new characters that use up roster space. One example could be Lucina: I’m 100% sure that Chrom is gonna be in, but with Lucina being a popular choice as well, perhaps she could be an alternate skin/costume for Chrom. Having a slightly different model (but with the same animations), a different voice, and perhaps a different win animation (and/or taunts) if you pick the alternate skin/costume shouldn’t be too difficult…or at least not nearly as problematic as making an entirely new character. This way we can essentially have more additions to the roster (e.g. Roy, Young Link [if Toon Link returns], Dr. Mario, etc.) without filling the roster up with clones or throwing off game balance if they want to do something like this as DLC.
Hell, you got closer than I did. You’re driving. …I’m going to bed. My schedule is very weird lately.
Before I go though… in regard to adding minor visual variations as alternate colors/skins onto a character so that you effectively ‘have that character’, they’re just a (literal in this case) clone of the source character? Yes. Absolutely an acceptable idea. Several of us have been advocating this throughout the thread. I want to see the various Fire Emblem Lords all tacked on to Marth’s movelist so we can be done with that. Yes, I’m aware Lyn fights using Iaijutsu and not the Hollywood-style European swordfighting Marth and most other Lords have. At this point, if she doesn’t end up getting an actual character slot then I will sure as hell accept her as an ‘alternate costume’ for Marth and the sword style difference be damned.
Likewise, putting Lucina on Chrom or Marth works just fine. It’s a win-win aside for the most irrationally devoted and inflexible fans of a character. Toss Proto Man and Bass costumes onto Mega Man and most of their supporters should be happy. Put Roy and Ike on Marth and I’ll accept that. Yes, it is more art team work… but I think the good will it generates would be worth it.
Edit: Forgive me if that’s a jumbled word-mess. Very sleepy. Will clarify later today if need be. tl;dr I like your idea, several of us have been proposing similar/identical stuff for a while now. Hopefully Smash 4 uses it.
Uh oh you just said to put proto and bass skins for megaman. The megaman community will come after you. lol
Is it weird that the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw that was Fox saying “Fabulous!” in a flamboyant and stereotypical gay voice?
I’m usually not one to notice bad graphics or even complain about them but compared to everyone else in that shot, Pikachu looks like shit for some reason, model-wise.
If someone else complains about the damn graphics from a picture while the game is still in development, I swear.
I noticed since the X/Y trailer, Pikachu has been getting chubby. I guess he is finally eating good wit dat handheld paypuh.
DLC can be done horribly, but it can also be done decently as well. It’s not as black and white as you’re making it. The inclusion of extra features into a game shouldn’t be based on how shitty of a community the game has (ala Injustice, now a.k.a cry about scorpion central) nor should it be placed on the disc either.
The fact that it’s been stated that completing the game to its fullest potential before even considering DLC is already the right mindset to have. I would love to see some extra characters down the road, whether they’re free or even a small fee. As long as they make this game giving the players a satisfying amount of base content, then by all means, expand it with more content. DLC doesn’t always have to be a shitty thing.
Although I will agree that most of the time, it is…
Obligatory 3rd party request post: Please include Quote from Cave Story!
Full disclosure I only played SSBM once or twice so I don’t know how to L cancel or any of that shit nor do I care to however, I played the hell out of SSBB from 08-10 and it’s one of the most fun games I’ve ever played. As someone who plays no fighting games competitively besides ST, I don’t really care about balance that much, I think too many people make too big a deal about it and don’t realize that most of the best and well designed fighting games have shitty balance. More importantly, I don’t think an unbalanced game should stop a player from having fun with it.
Anyone who didn’t bust a nerdgasm at Megaman’s reveal (unless you’re too young to know who he is of course) should stop playing video games, because if that kind of magic doesn’t get you hype, nothing will. Anyways, I’m happy the 3DS is forcing SB to have a smaller cast than Brawl, because Sakurai emphasized the need for creating a cast in which each character has a unique moveset and playstyle over a large one. Quality always trumps quantity.
I’m kind of upset (first world problems lol) Toon Link being shown in the background of a 3DS level as well as the no clone mention basically confirms he won’t be returning because TL is by far my favorite SB character. TL being very fast and powerful was nice, but what made me choose him as my main in SSBB was how you can zone and setup almost everyone just by properly combining arrow, boomerang, and bomb. The synergy between these 3 projectiles especially in regard to how fast TL was is what made him so fun to me, so it sucks he’s getting axed in favor of the clunkier adult Link.
Oh well at least I can main Mega Man who looks very straight forward but really fun.
I miss Young Link keepaway and bomb DI
pikachu and kirby will always look like their melee counterparts unless they add fur to pikachu and hair to kirby
My response to them would be: “Approach mine person, male sibling!”
Seriously, screw them. They could stand to take some lessons from their hero, and from folks like Buster Cannon and King9999 and others on here. You guys are the ones sharing your love for a franchise in the appropriate way, inspiring others to dig up the old games. That plants the seeds for letting others see why the Blue Bomber’s NES/SNES/PSX/etc. titles are so special and why he’s such a beloved character. You’re the ones creating ‘good’ buzz for Mega Man as a franchise. You’re doing it right; sharing positive ideals rather than ramming Mega Man down our throats with ‘angry mob’ tactics like certain parts of that community have resorted to. If they end up getting Proto Man/Bass/Roll/Zero/whoever as alternate costumes for Mega Man in Smash 4, they should damn well be happy for it. After all, I’m going to be pleased if Fire Emblem characters I want show up as alternate costumes for Marth, and they would technically have priority for inclusion because they’re actually Nintendo characters in the first place.
Nintendo isn’t going to turn this into Mega Man Smash Universe. The sooner they get comfortable with that, the happier they’ll be in the end.
realistic furry pikachu…I don’t know how I feel about that…
That looks like a giant rat. See what hd graphics get ya lol
