Super Smash Bros. General - Patience and Spacing....or Whine and Moan

Probably his headbutt to a tail whip kind of attack similar to his neutral air but grounded. Maybe they’ll make it glow and it could be Iron Tail, that’d be pretty sweet.

Pikachu’s headbutt chain really isn’t the same thing, I doubt it will have a finisher.

Honestly I’m fine with this loss(?). Jabs weren’t that good in Brawl(which was my jam and point of reference), so I would enjoy them actually leading to kills

I have no idea what this means.

I feel like I’m going to have an aneurysm from this, but what the hell…

Let me see if I can break this down for you. Before items were banned from play, Melee had all of… 3 stages banned? The tower stages were up for debate at that time as well, but not out yet (I remember clearly doing teams at TG5 with my friend with a Shiek/Pikachu team that absolutely OWNED Venom). Once items were removed from play, though, all the defensive strategies that were largely mitigated due to the requirement for constant stage control were now viable and way too overpowering to keep a sustainable competitive game. By removing items, a lot of the stages ended up having to go because they boiled the fight down into stupid shit and waiting games - devoid of strategy. The whole argument I made was that the boxing ring, which falls into the same category as MKII, the tower stages, Kongo Jungle, etc., would be returned to being a silly argument due to the item factor.

Your snarky response was so moronic that it made me speechless. We’re talking about ITEMS here. I think tournament history hardly applies considering items were banned from play long before the flippin’ stage in question… the whole argument was that items in play make a lot of stages that ARE shit otherwise quite viable. So by making a sarcastic quip about how that stage was pulled from tournament play… it kinda makes you look stupid and totally invalidates your argument. The fact that you haven’t seen that and required this reply hasn’t helped any.

If I may play Devil’s advocate for just a moment, I would like to say that with the posted gif, I could see it as either being stunned silent by something stupid someone said, or utterly defeated in an argument and left without words. I took it as something stupid myself, but I did have to think about it.

As for the argument itself, no comment.

You REALLY seem familiar.

Fine. I’ll concede that. It’s never how I’ve seen it, it’s usually used in a context of speechless exasperation over a reluctant concession, but I digress. My point still stands, however.

Yeah, sometimes a gif isn’t as clear as one thinks. That’s why whenever I see someone do something stupid, I go with an old standby.

Also, Castle FTW.

Firefox was/is having Javascript issues. You have to restart Firefox manually.

I was using Chrome, but a restart still helped.

I use (in order of preference) Chrome > Firefox > Safari > Opera > Internet Explorer.

That was mine too…until Chrome decided to start sucking when it came to things related to flash players and the like.

So I went to Firefox.

First off, that I didn’t understand your answer is not my fault. Use words it’s much more effective. Also I could do without being talked down to, I didn’t know my competitive Melee history sue me.

Items are not valid for a tournament ergo neither are stages that need items to be fair, ignoring of course that items are unfair by nature (willing to bet this will get a gif and not an answer in actual words).

I’m using this accidental 2nd post to say I like the new style but Fox and Samus need classic looks. They just look wrong Fox much more than Samus though.

Apples and oranges. You said boxing stage is shit. I said it wouldn’t be if you actually used items (my actual argument). You gave a bad example why it wouldn’t change things to which I refuted, citing an example in the past, then you cycled around to the beginning base argument and talked about tournament standards, which was entirely missing the point. Now you’re talking about why items are unfair. Shall we go around in circles again?

You know what, this is where I walk away. You are the type that there’s no debating with, because you already have a (very biased) opinion and you’re incapable of seeing the other side (a huge factor in proving a solid argument in a debate). All arguments regarding the topic as a whole have shown you are incredibly ignorant about the debate. It’s really hard to make a convincing argument about anything when you don’t have all the facts. You’re coming from the only thing you know, and trying to argue why it’s right. You see something foreign, and write it off as wrong subconsciously before even attempting to comprehend. It’s a regular Hatfields vs. McCoys here, and I’m one of the centenarian McCoys that remembers why the fuck we were fighting in the first place, but no one listens to assuming it’s just deranged ramblings of a senile old man.

It’s reasons like this (as well as the general bullying nature of the community at large towards anything foreign) as to why I loathe it so. As more people get into it, more people are uninformed, and just understand that it’s no good and can’t possibly ever be, without understanding why. It’s a sad state. I love the item debate, myself. I can see the merits of both sides, and I’d love to see some harmony there, as it would increase item knowledge overall. But I can’t stand having to regurgitate the same information over and over to every single new person who has an agenda. I’ve made these same arguments to individuals time and time again. Some actually get what I’m saying and do some real research. But it gets old fast, and the only way that community seems to grasp shit is one by one…

All in all, the boxing stage looks like it’ll be interesting with items in play to nullify edge camping.

Yo, you legit have convinced me to try get some people in my scene to try items. Maybe if we have time at the next tournament I could run an item-on PM bracket. You won me over when you said you can powershield -> shield grab a Hammer. That sounds like the tightest shit. I really like your enlargements.

The only thing that I’d like to add is that most Smash players play without items because they find it more enoyable and more fun. For most of us, itemless is just how the game is. We don’t do it with some anti-fun agenda or anything, itemless is just how we play.

Diddy tho

This man is my twin seperated at birth.

It’s like reading my own musings on the Pokemon community and the Smogon overlords who belittle and marginalize any style of play/strategy that differs from their own narrow-minded view of how things should be. It would be ironic until you consider that many of the same powers-that-be frequent both the Smashboards and Smogon communities…

I said it’s a shame boxing stage is a walk off because historically walk offs are shit. The rest, granted I was just being a smartass and over simplifying.

Not only did I see the other side, I went out of my way to try it. I created what I thought would be a fair item list (that was revised every few matches) put it on low and tried it for at least half an hour last time I played smash (P:M) seriously with other people and I found that where and what dropped was far too random to attribute to a skill game. Yes there was skill in the catching and throwing and usage but generally speaking it added a random element that made it really easy for me as Sonic to dominate slower characters on FD (The control stage for the experiment). Granted it wasn’t as big of a game changer as I went in thinking it’d be but the random element was definitely a deciding factor in the end. A great example was I remember winning a match by throwing a bat at a Bowser making a far reaching recovery, but what if it had been a fan? I’d probably have lost that one.

So don’t assume I didn’t try. I really wanted it to succeed. I think items are fun sometimes but it didn’t add up when I thought about it and it didn’t add up in the tests either.

Items on low (using Brawl as the barometer) don’t show up enough and aren’t guaranteed to fall on the ring itself which makes me think no it won’t.

Hah… this dude thinks he can spend 30 minutes and rule out items… my point has so fucking been made. Peace!
