Wolf is another Star Fox character that uses the same basic moveset, though admittedly MUCH better than Falco in every way that matters.

At the very least, Olimar, Pit, and ROB were extremely unique characters. You don’t have to like them, but all of them brought something new and awesome to the game.

So when I see basic shit like mewtwo slapped onto Lucario, or Toon link showing up, with neigh zero difference. In moveset from link and people give praise when those characters show up, I get annoyed cause that’s hypocritcal and coonish to count her out like that and praise a toon for showing up.
And it’s crazy that everyone is trying to tell me that the motherfucker that turned a racer, a 2dimensional man with limited functions in games, a toy, and a fitness instructor into movesets, that there is nothing possible he can craft with daisy.

Let’s not worry about ‘tier’ so much. That’s something that tends to only be determined after years of play, and while developers can make educated guesses as to how things will go even they are likely to be surprised in the end. Instead, it is probably better to focus on concepts. What unusual idea the character brings to the cast. In this regard, Brawl’s roster did pretty well!
Dedede was a heavyweight with some ‘floaty’ tricks. That’s a pretty cool idea on paper. Olimar features ‘pacing trade-off’ mechanics; do you press your current advantage, or stop to get more Pikmin and build toward an even greater situation at the cost of letting your opponent get out of their current predicament? Pit’s idea of curving arrows plus some flight behavior might not be wholly novel, but there aren’t many characters on the roster who fight exactly or greatly like him. ROB’s focus on a very unusual weapon and several interesting tricks was also very neat. Pokemon Trainer introduced the brilliant idea of a character having three fighting styles, but having to cycle between them regularly.
Did some of those characters turn out to be underwhelming in competitive play? Sadly, yes. I am nonetheless glad Sakurai tried such a variety of character ideas… they added some much needed variety. Perhaps this time around any egregious balance issues can be fixed after some time. …Of course, balance patches open up the potential for kneejerk buff/nerf behavior too (and it would be guided by complaints from the lowest common denominator, people who don’t know how to block or dodge tremendously slow attacks), so I suppose the arrangement isn’t perfect. Nonetheless, I’d rather place greater weight on creativity and variety than ‘tier’ in a roster.

King Dedede and Wario rule but it’s weird although being fat is part of their character (Wario moreso than DDD) I never really thought of them as “fat characters” the way I do for “real” fat characters like Rufus.
Squirtle and Ivysaur are too lame to carry their own slot in a smash game. The character basically exists to get Charizard in there.
