Man all the standard items in Smash 4 are getting some kind of visual overhaul. I’m not against change but the changes made are just less cool.
Ok. I’m gonna need a list of non-veteran characters, because I’m pretty sure that list is short and bad. FWIW I only liked a few of the newcomers from brawl: Wolf, Diddy, Sonic and Lucas (barely) everyone else was lame to me. Especially Lucario.
I feel bad for you and your lack of fun… So Wario, Dedede, Pokemon Trainer, Pit, ROB, and Ike were lame to you?

The newcomers were the last complaint I had about Brawl. That was the upside.

I like Ike, I just felt bad for Ike’s recovery. like why would they do that to him and in the same breath have characters with 3-5 jumps?
Pokemon trainer was horrible. ROB was forgettable

Where the hell did ROB even come from? What is it? Who even asked for that shit? As far as character choices go…yes they are lame. Also almost all of the people mentioned brought something to the game that I really could’ve done without. Wario charging a fart to do 30% damage? Without having to do anything? No thanks. Pit/Rob/MK flying around under the stage? Fuck outta here. Dedede/Ike/PT is shit. This much is known already. All I see out of your list is wasted character space. Brawl could’ve done so much better with the roster. I was wildly disappointed in how that game turned out. Oh, and even though I like Diddy Kong, his metagame is heavily based on throwing banana peels and tripping; the very same thing the smash community frowns upon makes this asshole a high-tier character. I really don’t get.
Okay. Since you’re a smarter, more talented developer than Sakurai, who would be in YOUR Smash roster?

Not liking characters is fine. Not liking over 60% of the roster because your obscure character from some random-ass game isn’t in is not.
I don’t like Snake in Brawl. Metaknight is the cancer that ran me out of competitivesnicker Brawl… I wish Little Mac and Geno could be in and Mewtwo never cut from Brawl, but that doesn’t mean I hate the entire roster, which honestly does a damn good job of covering most of Nintendo’s history while being true to their games(Captain Falcon notwithstanding)…
It’s a game where Mario fights Pikachu on top of the Great Fox while Fox runs away from Dedede throwing goons… Why is anybody upset at that?

Wanted to jump in on this because while I liked most of these characters (or at least tolerated them), Ike’s inclusion upset me for an odd reason. As a Fire Emblem fan, I felt his portrayal in Brawl wasn’t very true to the character. They turned him into some mega heavyweight who swings his sword around as though it weighed, like, 500 pounds or something. I exaggerate, but not by all that much. The relatively well-rounded sword-fighting Lord from the Fire Emblem games somehow became a sluggish brute in Brawl and this was rather upsetting.
I realize he has to have some differences from Marth just to avoid being a clone, but this went too far in the wrong direction. If Ike comes back, I hope he gets significantly reworked. Truth be told though, what I really want is someone from Fire Emblem that doesn’t use a sword. How about some love for polearms, a big ol’ axe, or even magic?
I was thinking that the Avatar (Robin) from FE: Awakening could be an interesting pick. Yes, he does use a sword, but he/she could also rep magic from the FE series. Or, in theory, pretty much any weapon ever since the avatar can class change to every single unit type available (except lord/great lord). Final Smash involving Grima in some form? Could be interesting…
There’s probably other choices, but since the next FE rep will probably come from Awakening, the Avatar seems like the most likely choice if we were to get a magic user at all. Though Chrom getting a stance change where he could wield a lance (since in the Great Lord class you can wield swords and lances) could be neat, but I don’t see that happening if either Chrom or Lucina get in.
Those are actually really cool proposals. At this point we’re obviously just roster theory-crafting, but I would be pleased to see anything even close to those ideas show up in Smash 4.

I had actually forgotten Rick the Hamster exists. I am upset by this, because he was one of the things I rather liked about the particular Kirby game he was in (was it just one? I know of a Gameboy one, but were there any others?).
