Super Smash Bros. General - Patience and Spacing....or Whine and Moan

When will they learn that people only get hype for the Adventure themes? :coffee:

Saitsu, it’s not that simple. If it were just a matter of learning they would have done it already. However, creating soundtracks for game promotion purposes is actually a deeply involved, multi-step process. I’ll break it down since ‘learn’ is actually only the second step.

Step 1: Live. You must have a pulse and otherwise be capable of normal interactions in society.

Step 2: Learn. Multiple sources will give you the information you need, if consulted.

These parts are intuitive enough, but from there you also have to be capable of mountain-climbing and time travel in both directions, because the next steps are…

Step 3: Hang on the Edge of Tomorrow. This is particularly dangerous, so you’ll need climbing gear.

And then you have to be capable of going back at least 47 hours and 59 minutes into the past, because you must also consult…

Step 4: The Words of Yesterday. Remember, ‘yesterday’ is based on your original perspective, but since you were on the edge of tomorrow you’ll need to go back just short of 48 hours to get this info.

And that’s why it’s hard to do soundtrack promos for games well.

Super Sonic Racing still best vocal Sonic song.

Pic of the day. A red-black effect now appears when you’re hit by a strong blow. It’ll only appear when you have high damage, so when you see this you’re in trouble–and you’re probably about to get KO’d!

Nice effects. I want to see a vid of this. This would look especially nice with powerful-looking moves like Falcon Punch.

^
Looks like Toon Link is neutering Fox with that hit, Sakurai chose well.

WOAH.

I know the damage could potentially be high on that hit, but could that possibly means that the Link bros. Up B has been restored to it’s killing potential?

edit: nevermind, I see his free arm in the pic now, that’s just the second hit of forward smash.

HYPE CANCEL

Pic of the day. Turnips are used in the Villager’s up-air and down-air attacks. Perhaps because the turnip prices fluctuate depending on the day’s market, the number of turnips that appear changes every time. How cute.

I wonder if the turnips do random damage?

Villager Turnip vs Peach Turnips.
This needs to happen.

EDIT:
What’s up with Turnips and random damage? Is there some inside joke about it that I’m just not aware of?

UnSaxon51: My understanding of both Japanese language and culture is pretty limited, but I’ve never come across that in my normal studies on either. A quick attempt to investigate this online didn’t turn up much beyond two things that have only a very small chance of being related… I’ll mention them below just in case, though.

It could be a reference to “turnip-headed arrows” as explained in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yabusame. One supposes the quasi-random ‘spread’ of aim caused by participating in this could be the reference? Maybe?

Also, apparently there is some research going on regarding Japanese turnips having certain probiotic (e.g. bacterial, but in a way that promotes immune system behavior) properties that might be useful for medical purposes. I would expect that to be more related to healing items as far as Smash goes, though.

Clearly both of those are a big stretch. From the Japanese cultural side of things they’re the only leads I find though, so the idea that it’s some kind of in-joke or special Nintendo reference may be more likely. That, or Sakurai is just being silly and has decided that “turnips = random” is a meme he’s going to sustain. Or perhaps he’s being completely honest in the caption and this is solely a nod to Animal Crossing market behaviors? I wouldn’t know since I haven’t played any of the more recent ones.

Um… No.

In Animal Crossing you buy and sell turnips through the Turnip Stock Market. The prices fluctuate daily. The move was made to represent that, hence the random number of Turnips each use.

My question was whether Villager’s U-air and D-air damage depends on the number of turnips.

Oh. Probably?

Heh, that’s cool. I admitted up front a lot of these ideas were reaching, but he wondered if there was an in-joke and I was like “…Maybe? I’ll see if I can find something?” Clearly not, though. Animal Crossing Turnip Market makes sense to me. Thanks for clearing that up!

Pic of the day. Pop quiz! Who is this monster, and where is it from? The cage may serve as a hint.

That boss is from Find Mii. Looks like there’s a stage based on that game. I’m still hoping for a Pushmo stage. Too much potential.

Wow…bringing in elements from Find Mii? I don’t even know why I hadn’t considered it since Brawl had a stage based off of Pictochat.

No, Brawl had a stage based off what Nintendo naively fantasized Pictochat was (and was used for). A stage truly based off Pictochat would have been nothing but crude drawings of various anatomy, and random profanities with no context. I discovered this firsthand at E3 one year while waiting for the doors to open. About 10 seconds later I just shook my head and closed my DS while muttering “…Yeaaah, in hindsight I probably should have expected that. Some ‘trade show for professionals.’”

Showing no gameplay footage, or (god forbid) letting people play the game is a worry to me

This isn’t out of line with how they handled Brawl, though. It was only in the last few months leading up to release that they offered more frequent semi-public demos at gaming industry events. I still remember the ‘booth babes’ they hired to helpfully shout at players, “Press 1, Metaknight, press 1!”

I’d like Nintendo to give people a chance to put their hands on it myself so that people can provide some feedback but I da know…it still feels early. We we don’t start seeing more footage of the game by early Spring then I’ll start to worry.
