Now that you mention it it would have been cool if they said something about that. I hope it goes to the game mode option too.
Haha. Crates.
AND barrels!
nice one lol
Awesome week so far.
New images of the more interesting backgrounds, crates/barrels shapechange to the environment (thanks Sakurai, for thinking like an artist), plus new images of Samus, and the ridiculously sweet update of one of the boss themes from Super Metroid. drool :lovin:
yay Zero Suit Samus <3!
I love the sliding crate idea, if you look closely you can see the wheels under the damn box too, haha.
I’d be disheartened if Falco were omitted from Brawl, as he’s recently become my main. They’ll probably axe his SHL though, so I’d forsake him anyway.
Am I the only one that actually LIKES the idea of clones in a fighting game? It seems kinda…novel to me. I always had the idea that clone characters were extra novelties implemented in situations were space/time contraints made adding a full-featured, original character impossible. I’d rather have those clones than less characters in general.
Not only are Smash clones easily the most differentiated of their ilk (with the exception of maybe Link/Young Link every characters has a VERY unique feel in Melee), but it also gives the series a welcome traditional fighting game feel.
Lastly, I feel as though clones seem to emit an indescribable bond between them that denotes a relationship between the characters that makes their matchups kinda cool. In Smash 64, the first time I experienced a Mario vs Luigi matchup I thought to myself “how cool is this?”. Today, Fox vs Falco is easily one of the most entertaining matchups in Melee (admittedly, that’s less because of any clonage and more because they destroy each other).
My 2 cents.

You’re probably the first person I’ve seen who actually wants the clones to remain in SSBM. Actually, my main character is Ganondorf who is, as you know, a clone of Captain Falcon. But I like Ganondorf’s play style; he may share many of CF’s moves, but you can’t play Ganondorf like CF. Kinda like the relationship between Ken and Ryu.
Man I can’t wait until this game comes out. Nintendo basically told Sakurai he didn’t have a budget and game him his own huge studio for this game. They know how important it is for this to be awesome
when did they say they were trying to phase rare made characters out? i hope thats not the case because i would really like to see diddy kong in the game, and after he was in mariokart DD i thought it would be a strong possibility, especially since he isnt as obscure of a character as pit and meta-knight which are starting characters
anyways about todays update, it was a pretty good upddate, at first when i saw barrels and crates i was just gonna not even botherreading it but im glad i did, because thats a pretty cool update. However it wasnt really necessary and the time would have been better spent updating something else, but whatever its still kinda cool. I dont see the point of the rolling crate though, because barrels would already roll.
and as far as clone characters go i dont mind them as long as they arent taking the place of a subsatantialy new character. Some clones like young link have no point and i could care less if they get axed but clones like ganandorf i think should stay with a little tweaking as was said because they play completely different even though they have an almost identical moveset
I want clones to remain. It makes the game easier to balance and therefore better, and as Synikal said Falco/Fox are VERY different, as are Dorf/Falcon, completely different characters. Roy/Marth are very different, as are Doc/Mario and Pichu/Pikachu, the only characters that are too similar are the links, and that could be remedied.
Aw man she got zero-G implants.
One thing I’ve learned over time is that sometimes changes can be for the worst. In attempting to make certain characters so different they can end up lose all relevancy in high level combat.
Luigi’s Rocket move for example. It has that stupid 12.5% chance of going nuclear and potentially setting you up for suicide, but it makes him different from Mario right?
I’d rather a character like Ganon remain similar than get tweaked with awkward useless normals/moves. Unless they give him that bigass sword.
Kalypso brought up a great point regarding balancing. Can’t believe I forgot about that major bullet point.
Either way, fans have bitched loud enough to all but guarantee clones won’t play a major role in Brawl.

Hell, the links really aren’t that much alike. I’ve played both of them a lot, and using one completely ruins my game with the other for a while.
Samus.
yes indeedly it is samus…and looking good i might say. =D…lifts an eyebrow at the picture in the upper right…Can she shoot diagonally now? :wonder:
Stupid spamus =(
Samus Aran from the metriod series has been confirmed…lol
Samus Aran looks badass this time around…but according to myth when she uses her final smash she becomes zss? but sakurai said zss is a different character?..wtf anywho although im not a samus user this updates is still cool none the less…samus plus boss theme from metriod =win
it seems fridays is when we get the hype updates
SAMUS! clap clap
SAMUS! clap clap
SAMUS! clap clap
:lovin:
Was hoping it’d be a double-update with her in both forms, but I’ll take it.
Hope next week’s updates are as good as this week’s have been.
