Super Smash Bros. Brawl thread v2. wii want it now

lolNintendo… teach em to go into debt while they’re young!!!

“Hey Billy where are those coins you owe me… if I don’t see them soon I will beat you up for your stickers too.”

Thanks, Nintendo. Because, instead of seeing matches between competitive players who will actually have some knowledge about the metagame, what I REALLY want to see is a B-spamming match between two 3 year olds.

This “Spectator” function could be much better if they tweaked it a little bit. . .but I doubt that’s going to happen.

Wow, Nintendo you REALLY REALLY REEEEEEEEEEALLY want this game to be for casuals huh?

Fuck you too, bitches.

Though the matches are pre screened by nintendo…I think this could work out in the favor for the competitive scene. Even though there are going to be scrubs playing this game online there are going to be at least a few matches where it’s probably gonna be someone like us really going at it with the other players and probably showing stuff that other people haven’t seen before. It might make a few people go ‘wait…you can do that!?’ and then they try to figure it out themselves since they caught one of us do it. Not all of the matches that are shown will be scrubby i’m pretty sure of it. In a way…now that i’m thinking more of it I’m sorta glad Nintendo doesn’t have some type of microphone headset because I can hear plenty of Waahmbulances being called.

i think people should be less concerned about the spectator mode’s “no name” quality purely because of the fact that you can just have high level Smashers you have friended send you replay data ( albeit, the three minute limit thing is still kind of irksome ).

Uh. . .think about it this way, Sonichuman. Out of all the hundreds of thousands of fanboys that play Smash, what percent of them are actually competitive. . .i.e. who can do the techniques consistently, are familiar with matchups and the metagame, and actually KNOW what they’re doing? Like, 10%? And that’s being generous.

All the rest are people that either have no idea about competitive Smash, or know about it, but don’t want to learn. For that second group, watching a bunch of matches isn’t going to change their mind. For that first group. . .well, if MLG/EVO, the Nintendo Power article (ugh), match video sharing hubs and the general internet itself hasn’t advertised competitive Smash to the masses, then I don’t know what will. Certainly not this “spectator” function.

Nintendo’s screening process:

“Allright, Mario beat Sonic and Snake in this match, lets put it up asap!”, “hey boss, did you see this match? Ike did some crazy shi…” “Did Mario win?” “uh…no” gets slapped

smash tv…get hype…

Sounds like you just watched this.

lol, Mad random.

Naw more like:

Hey did that Wario taunt have the word “Doody!” written?

checks manual

Yup “doody” is unacceptable we can’t put this up.

Yes this I know I’m saying what i’m saying while taking the fact that around 90% of the people going on line in the beginning are just casual. I’m saying that somewhere there’s somebody who will watch matches and they may catch one of us playing and that may spark their interest. I’m not talking about a whole flood of people just all of a sudden going ‘OH SHIT SON! Lemme practice that right now so i can be the best!’ I’m talking about the very few who may go ‘hmmm…didn’t know you could do that’ and then it will spark from there and we’ll get new people coming in who will probably at the very least know what they’re doing and and even smaller few who will actually go to the tournies. See what i’m saying?

O.O;…wooooooowwww…

Damn…and still this was before they added in the stuff that they did in melee, teching on the walls and ceiling and DI. This makes me even more enthused on the outcome of how this game will be.

the troll seems to go away when you add them to the ignore list. i suggest everyone stop feeding it and do that.

and this update feels lame, it’s not like it matters if we see someone’s name, you can PM them or anything. But i guess they’re doing that becuase of censors or crap. But still, since they will be choosing which to send out to everyone, then it shouldn’t matter.

Most gamers already think that Nintendo doesn’t know how to make a good online game. Brawl is their best shot to prove all of them wrong, but by what they’re offering right now, it doesn’t seem like they’re going to be changing anyones mind. The main goal in building an online game is to form a community around it, but by how Nintendo has everything setup, forming an online community is near impossible. Here are some changes I would like to see to Brawl’s online offerings.

  1. Player stats:

Showing a players name, ranking, leader board position, and achievements earned is a core part of online gaming. Seeing a players stats is how you’re first introduced to people online.

  1. Rankings:

Giving players rankings such as “S, A, B, C, D” is a very common feature in online games. Rankings are determined by the number of games a player has played, and their overall win percentage. This is important because it helps players find out someone who is in their skill level to compete against.

  1. Leader boards:

Leader boards are a core part of making an online game addictive. Climbing through the ladders trying to reach a higher position is part of what keeps you playing. Your position on a leader board are general determined by your overall number of points. You gain points for winning matches, moving up in ranks, gaining achievements, and betting.

  1. Achievements:

Achievements are something that have become popularized by the 360. Pulling off oddball tasks like getting 100 KO’s with a certain item seems to be fun for most players. Brawl could potentially have limitless amounts of achievements.

  1. Betting:

This is an idea that Nintendo has introduced themselves, but it can be expanded on much more. Betting your points that you’ve earned through winning matches, moving up ranks, and earning achievements can make all smash players amateur gamblers. Betting a certain amount of points then picking a multiplier (ex: 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, etc.), to increase your earnings(or loses). Also being able to bet on yourself in your own matches would be good(you shouldn’t be allowed to bet on your opponents so dirty tricks such as throwing your own matches can be avoided).

  1. Messaging:

Talking to your opponents is part of what makes online gaming a social experience. Being able to talk smack to each other during a match is always fun, and it may also be a good idea to allow spectators talk to themselves.

These are just some things that have been implemented into many modern online games today, and I only wish they will be added along with Brawl.

Prediction: Next really good update will be on December 25th, announcing the second coming of Jesus Christ…AS A NEW CHALLENGER!!!

Looking forward to seeing the Crucification Final Smash.

Ha Nintendo would never do any of that. Those are all good ideas though.

They are only interested in money, they haven’t given a shit at all about online play since forever.

I mean Smash is going to have FRIEND codes. Get outta here with that Friendcode bullshit. Japs are too proud to admit they have no idea how to make an enjoyable online gaming experience. I mean look at VF5, could the hub and online features for that game be any crappier?

Even though Nintendo is dominating, they are still scared to shake that kiddy stigma. That is a huge advantage, I mean the Gamecube was held afloat by that almost alone. Having an online game with chat and all sorts of player stuff is just asking for an 8 year old to see the word “Faggot Eater” and then the deluge of soccer mom’s calling in all freaked out.

The Smash Community ( oh gawd…) needs to band together and e mail the crap out of Nintendo to let them realize that Brawl’s online experience will make the game that much better.

All of this online stuff they’ve shown ( fighting, getting to watch matches, sharing videos and stages, and now betting on stuff ) shows they are on the right track. But the way they are going about it really makes it feel like it’s all been tacked on in the last minute ( aka the games delay ) and they never really planned in the first place to have WiFi battling in there in the first place.

galaxy is very good but WAY too easy… i have like 70 stars already

Galaxy is simple…Siiiiiiiiiiiimple. But hella fun.

Waiting on Brawl, comes out four days before my b-day. What a friggan’ present.

Also I have two copies of Melee, and neither one works on my Wii lol.

Probubly because 90% of Smash players don’y give a shit about the competative scene. ITs not all about you guys you know.

yes it’s not all about us but still think about it for a second. on the site it says one of the main purposes of the feature is to let people that aren’t good at the game watch other people play. what if there was some sort of ranking system and/or you were allowed to pick who you want to spectate. That’d be a lot better for nubs because

  1. ranked matches would allow nintendo to very easily pick matches that they know have good players or at the very least better than what would be seen in a random match.

  2. if you can pick who you want to see you could say I want to see X play because they use my favorite character and they have a very nice style.

That would benefit everyone but instead nintendo has to hold onto their stupid online policies and cripple what could have been a very useful feature.

Spectator mode seems really cool.
