If they had ANY reference to MVC2 in Brawl i think i would fall out my chair laughing. Sent pops out AT short, short , Rocket punch. That would be hot.
For those of you who thought that Metaknight should have been named “Metakuma,” well, he isn’t like that. Based on what people have played (although of course it’s still too early to say), MK has extremely quick, multi-hitting slashes with good range. . .think of Sheik’s ground game, but in the air.
Thing is, he can’t KO worth shit. And if you’ve played Roy, Young Link, or Mario in Melee, you know that if you can’t KO, you’re severely handicapped. Not being able to KO basically screws your character over, since you have to rely on edgeguarding, which is obviously more situational and overall more difficult.
maelstrom who are you in smashboards?
Just curious.
Ha ha. . .on Smashboards, I’m maelstrom218. And now that I think about it, I think I may have met you once or twice during one of the DA Gauntlets/KF tourneys a year or two back at Web2Zone. You destroyed me in a Mario ditto, if I recall correctly.
U know this has always bothered me… Smash players have different words for the exacts same thing that we have words for. Example mirror match = Ditto, or Casuals = Friendlies. Did they start saying that to differenciate themselves or just for the hell of it. Cuz i remember i played someone in Smash for fun and they called it a friendly and i was like dont u mean casuals? Just a small rant its not really a big deal or anything.
Outmaneuver him? He has quick running speed, can glide through the air, has multiple jumps, and all of his special moves allow him to move through the air. So how are you going to outmaneuver him?
His special moves don’t seem to KO, but at least he still has the standard smashes.
- I don’t see the point in giving new names to terms that have existed for far longer.
- Their name variants seem a bit lame.
You have to consider that for most Smash players, it’s their first foray into the fighting game world.
They don’t think "what shall WE call casuals? " it’s “What do we call playing, but when it’s not seriously?”. It’s only really recently that the Smash community has had any kind of interaction with the SF community.
Agreed. The Smash community developed in relative isolation from other fighting games; most of its members are young, inexperienced, and have no vivid recollection of standard, traditional fighters like Super Turbo.
Part of it is also the fact that Smash is so different. If you start throwing terms around like bread and butter, lockdown, corner-trap, gatling combo, crossover, then Smashers will have no idea what you’re talking about. They exist in the game, of course, it’s just that they don’t mean the same thing in the traditional sense of those words.
metaknight looks dope i ook forward to that lol smash terms
Crossovers don’t exist in smash, do they? I mean with the multidirectional shield and all. Also, corner traps?
And isn’t a gatling combo just another name for a chain combo? Let’s not give new names to old things while we’re discussing just that.
…seriously.
well yeah, being a GG term and all. That just proves a point, that different scenes (or the games developers themselves) tend to develop different names on things that are similar if not the exact same, ie alpha counters/dead angles, supers/overdrives/final smash, the list goes on…so its either memorize them all, or scratch your head whenever you hear a term you dont understand…
except you do, its just a different word from what your used to…man this is complicated haha
:wgrin:
From now on, KO’s are to be referred to DEATHBLOWS and all Smash Attacks are subsequently renamed DEATHBLOW Attacks.
God I am going to be the Super DEATHBLOW Bros Brawl champion.
Actually I think a gatling combo refers specifically to a combo wherein a move cancels into itself repeatedly.
It doesn’t. I don’t think you can even do that in GG.
…seriously.

“Mofucka”
gattling combo is just a combo where normal moves naturally cancel into other moves upon button press, the basic being p>k>s>far s> hs. So think of it as MvC where you do zigzags for an air combo when your yknow, not playing magneto.
But yeah, no more unrelated talk from me, carry on with the smash.
Well there isnt a lot to talk about, the updates have been really lame this week and most of the information about the gameplay isnt really well known. I guess the one thing I do want to bring up though is the games speed. Does anyone else think the slower pace will make the game feel akward and sluggish somewhat…kind of like Smash64. I know a lot of fans in the competitve scene loved the paste…so its really unusual that Sak would mess around with it.
All I can think about is how super armor and higher smash damage might balance out the characters and make the bigger characters worthwhile.
Just make the pixies KO attacks ( or deathblows ) do poop damage. Giving Fox his movement speed, a good spike, AND that flash kick was just asking for trouble.
Just looking at Metaknight makes me think his slow movement speed will be balanced by his high attack speed and the fact that all his specials move him quickly across the screen with no lag.
Hearing reports about his KO attacks not doing good damages makes me excited that they may have figured out some sort of balance for the game.
I’m predicting Metaknight will have a super dope edge guard game with his up B, drill claw, glide, and cape teleport. It would be sweet if he could knock people off and when they are recovering be able to go after them in the air like a crazy bee.
Fact: game developers don’t give a shit about the competative scene.
…seriously.
