Well, with Lucas actually turning out so similar to Ness (with the Up B and Down B special moves being pretty much exactly the same), I think the chances of Ness returning are shrinking. And, because of the similar situation, I doubt Marth and Roy are returning either.
It’s definitely still all speculation, though. So if Sakurai wants to innundate us with characters and doesn’t mind almost-clones, then bring on Ness and Marth!
Dude, that’s the theme that plays after almost every victory in almost every Fire Emblem…
Anyway, I would prefer Ness to still show up but to hell with Marth.
Marth is easily the weakest and most boring FE Lord except maybe Eliwood, but at least Eliwood has personality. Marth is just a fruity little fop.
Sakurai really taunted us with Gray Fox saying that it almost makes us want him to be playable. Degrading such a character to an assist trophy is unforgivable. A friend of mine keeps whining over Lyn being an assist trophy but seriously, her being an assist trophy was merely a slap on the wrist. Gray Fox being an assist trophy is a field goal kick to the balls.
Aw well, there’s still a very slim possibility of Raiden…but surprisingly I think that they’re trying to get away from padding the roster with clones.

I couldn’t be happier. God, I hate Ness. I honestly didn’t want a Mother character in Brawl at all, but I’m cool with Lucas. Ness just pissed me off.
Somebody’s gonna hack the game and make Assist Trophies playable somehow. And then Gray Fox will proceed to DAT RAPE. And now that I think about it Psycho Mantis would have been a cool AT too. Fuck with ya controls for a couple of seconds or something like that. And Ness aint dead, he just took a couple shots. The PK Freeze tells the story. Ness will be playable through Lucas as an alternate costume you unlock. Seems like the best way to make everyone happy. And it really doesn’t help with all the hints to Ness’ apperance by Sakurai. 2-10-8 = THE END!!
Lucas was looking pretty promising until I found out that they still gave him the same crappy ass PK Thunder. When will HAL learn that PK Thunder by default is one of the most flawed recovery moves in existence! Now he’ll be spike bait and Shine bait, and with new characters that can now glide they can go out far and take advantage of his 3 second startup.
Rope Snake might be his savior, so I’m keeping my hopes up as his offensive normals look great and PK Freeze has potential.
Man, there’s almost no chance Ness is in now.

Ness should really be an alternate costume, and Mother should also have Claus as another representative. That way we technically get 3 from the series.
Who knows, they might have sped up PK thunder as well. Or given it back its massive damage/sending power on the launch.
It would be nice to have a Ness palette swap though, just for old time’s sake.
What’s with the Ness hate ? You just didn’t like his character ? If its the way he played then Lucas is going to be practically the same.

Last night’s update instilled much doubt in me that Ness would be returning…:(…i’m gonna miss trying to swat back Samus’ charge beam back in her face with the bat…
man Ness is way better than Lucas. Ness is a part of my childhood, fuck this lucas joker.
Let’s hope- but how fast can you speed it up while controlling it smoothly? If it had pure invincibility at launch that would be cool, or at least heavy armor.

Ness is coming back. that’s all i’m gonna say about it.
i still say ness is up in the air, especially with the “ness appeared in the series up until now” and what with Lucas’ specials obviously being what ness’ were in melee, ness might just be represented in a change of lucas’ clothes’ colors.

Or they could just revamp him altogether. Falco in SSBM was pretty much a mini-version of SSB64 Fox.
they best not change Falco too much, he was really unique.
