wtf is that nonsense even supposed to mean? Also Sakurai was in charge of all 3 games so if it’s not in then it was probably his call. Just like the recent change in the demos where the fast fall form of l-canceling was removed. I doubt some random programmer from Game Arts was the one that made the decision to remove it.
I’ve never played the games competitvely, but as for having fun with my buddies, Smash Bros. Melee alone could have justified my GameCube purchase if I had paid 5 times the amount I paid for the GameCube. I love that game so much and spent countless hours on it. I’m literally salivating for this new game. I’m just sad it got delayed because, before that, it was coming out one day before my brithday. So much for Sakurai giving me a good present.
Also:
Currently, there are 23 characters annoucned on the website (25 technically, but two characters are alternate modes… Zamus and Shiek). Assuming the 4 original hidden characters (Puff, Falcon, Ness, and Luigi) are in the game and “knowing” that Lucario is in the game, that brings the so-far grand total to 28 characters.
Looking at that character select screen, there is no more room for barely any characters. Just two empty spots, no? That’s a pathetic 24 characters possible, unless you take into account random select boxes. That means there isn’t room for anyone at all. So obviously, as characters become unlocked, the character boxes will shrink a bit. Assuming we shrink enough to add one more column (making 9 a row, like Melee) and one more row on the bottom, we’ll end up with 36 spots for characters. Leaving off two spots for random select (as with Melee), that leaves, potentially, a grand total of 34 characters. Which I’m guessing means we’re 6 characters away from knowing the entire final roster. Unless they can shrink it enough for even one MORE column, which brings the grand total to 38, meaning that we have 10 more characters left. OR, if there isn’t a new row and only two new columns, that brings the grand total to only 28, which means we know everyone already!!! I hope it’s not that last one.
Bleah. I’m thinking too hard about this.

P.S. Anyone else find it odd that Diddy Kong is in the top row and not Yoshi? That top row looks like it should have been the original 8 characters.
You thinking to hard on it. The portraits will rotate, and change accordingly to fit more characters in, as it always does. Portrait may get smaller, etc. It’s not a permanent, stagnant setup, like old 2D fighters.
Also, someone is claiming this is the “final” roster, or at least where he is at.

more characters please
I like the insight on the interview. They make it sound like it’s going to be delayed till next September
I’m sorry I said it.
2chan Thread Translation (kinda)
Alot of detailed info is in there, and it’s also where the disc, and character screens came from.
Didn’t you read the Iwata interview with Sakurai? The secret developer was Game Arts, since HAL was preoccupied with some other project, and GA was available just right after Grandia III.
He’s not saying GA had nothing to do with it, he’s saying it’s hard to believe a few random GA programmers had any call in something like L-Canceling, or whatever you young kids call it nowadays.
Veterans that still need to be announced:
Luigi
Captain Falcon
Gannondarf
Falco
Ness
Jiggly Puff
Mewtwo
Mr.Game and Watch
Marth
Veterans that need to go die in a fire:
Dr.Mario
Young Link
Roy
Pichu
I would be accepting to see Young Link come back, as long as he’s in his cel shaded version and has a different moveset.
It’s not possible. It’s the damn truth. The Famitsu scans before the review came out. Said Sonic and Snake were unlockable. So that is a legit screen shot.
The Iwata-Sakurai interview was an interesting read. Can’t wait for part 2.
So it has begun. Personally we need to do something to protect ourselves from this spoiler menance that is about to take over the whole damn internet. Cause you know some random asshole will spoil the game and then you’ll be forced to either stomp em in the nutz or punch them very hard in the stomach or introduce DEM STAIRS to they lifestyle. You can’t dodge the internet and what’s coming when info really starts to come out. So maybe what I’m saying is maybe we need to come with some way to keep that stuff out of the thread. Cause when the spoilers come, that’s going to start something most people don’t have the time or energy to deal with. So seeing as the leaks are coming in more and more. I’d say about 3-5 days before spoiler armageddon starts. We gotta do something, and suggestions are open.
@quiche-I hit that join button. I’m with you homeboy.
I have no idea what that group’s about…
joins
I think it’ll be futile for me to try and avoid spoilers, but I won’t let any slip out.
quiche can make groups?
edit:
OOOOOOH, we finally updated to 3.7.
edit edit: Wait, no tag cloud? That’s one of the few features of vB we DO need.
lol The dream is dead.
Lucario’s design at his base has a top-tier-ish quality already. All they have to do is not make him too slow or too weak and the moves and normals should take care of themselves.
Lucario will replace Mewtwo for the position of crappy pokemon character. And I joined the group, but what is it about?
Joined. Looking forward to some Brawells. As well as creating some SRK inspired levels.
You’re not the only one.
Heart-swap = you have to learn all the characters, fun fun fun!
Heart Swap in a 4-man FFA could be mental.
Joined said group, hurray.
Also, to note on heartswap…so i realize if you suicide, it counts against you, but…
what if you jump off the edge and then you change back? Unless it brings you to a position closer together or something, whats to stop you from plummeting them to their death? Hmm
Man, that “With Anyone” mode is gonna be 2mins of fucking wackiness per-game. All these items n shit. Werd, know what I mean?
Thanks to Brawl, I bet my Wii will overheat quicker than my 360 ever did.
I joined teh group too, I look forward to some GGs against you SRK Smash heads.
Also, I THINK the Hori Arcade stick may be confirmed compatible after all, via Curb_sides(?..dude who did the WHobby reports) post where he said he felt more comfortable using the D-Pad than the classic controller’s analog stick.
Alrighty…I joined.
And on another note…
