But this update. I’m impressed. This is shaping up to be the best hybrid fighter ever. If such a game truly exists. What I’m really starting to see is everything has a purpose. I thought stickers were just stickers till now. This game will be worth the wait, and every award you know it’s going to recieve this year. I didn’t know a simple update about stickers would raise that HYPE LEVEL up.
So this is the method of powering up that Sakurai was referring to. And here most people thought it was typical leveling up.
A bit disappointed that the effects don’t stack, but I guess he didn’t want us to rape the game too hard by having only stickers that affected one attribute. Losing the stickers when you peel them off or lose kinda raises an eyebrow, but seeing as you’ll be gaining more as you progress, doesn’t seem like a big deal. But overall, I have to say I like it.
I really liked this update. Cherry-don really DID think of everything.
Of course, I think that the wording could always leave something to the imagination. Notice how he said that they would be of no use to us in “STANDARD brawls”. Who’s to say there won’t be at least one “Special Brawl” where we could import our beefed characters and have it in a context where they would fit well?
It could be even better than having our A3 World Tour characters mixing it up in Vs. XD

The interesting thing here is that he chooses the word “Haaku”, which, according to my dictionary, can mean “grasp”, “caught”, or “understood”. Some how, I’m more inclined to believe “grasp/caugh”, implying that they can only be CAUGHT in SSE mode, not only used in that particular mode, as the English translation may have us believe.
Then the following line.

my effort at translating:
“(They) can’t be utilized for (standard?) battles. I’m sorry.”
Only thing that leads to be questioned is if “Taisen” implied ALL types of battles, or just the “standard” battles. He’s not explicit enough, and his rather coy word choice allows him to be that way.
So again…I have reason to believe that there probably will be some sort of “Special Brawl” that will allow people to use their sticker-stacked characters for their benefit in a “shits-n-giggles” context. It just would seem more Sakurai’s style to cover all his bases…after all, he did “think of everything”. :wgrin:
Unless I have to go through the Subspace Emissary mode to unlock characters (which would be retarded but is not unlikely), I’m sure I’ll never even hover over the option for it on the select screen. I couldn’t care less about stickers and their faux-rpg bonuses and I’m super glad they won’t be usable when playing against other people.
Man, I guess I really don’t like non-competitive-fighting game video games anymore, huh?
Unless there are vocalized cutscenes for SSE, probably not. Vocalized cutscenes would seem to be the only ready reason to need an option for that.
Or Snake’s Codec bits, they might have an option for that. It’d be nice, but unnecessary.
If there IS a special mode that allows you to use stickers in vs mode, why would they choose to translate “???” to: “Finally, remember that stickers are only of use within The Subspace Emissary”?
That would be completely contradictory and unprofessional.
The BR is worse in Halo 3 not because all the other weapons got better, but because that weapon got worse. It’s mostly because the burst spread is completely random now. It takes 4 shots to the head to kill someone, each shot is a 3 round burst equaling 12 bullets in total. In Halo 2, if your cross hair was on your opponent then all three bullets were assured. In Halo 3 if your cross hair is on your opponent then you can get all 3 bullets, or none of them. Shit is just too random.
Not exactly. When a smash ball appears on screen then the fight shifts away from a character vs. character fight to a fight for the smash ball. Pity smashes are even worse since it’s basically rewarding players for bad play.
Just wait for someone to unlock everything and upload their file onto the internet. Then you can download their memory onto your SD card.
Because simply put, the NoA translators are NOT perfect. They do a passable job, but they’ve never been perfect; some times they’ll even say “Screw that!” to what the original JP text was saying and go to the beat of their own drum. Thus, even when it comes to these updates, they still leave some things to be desired.
I mean, do I need to go back to the whole “…up to now” Ness issue again? Or how about the fact that the Japanese translation STILL does not EXPLICITLY state that Sheik is female, in spite of how the NoA translation took the liberty of providing as such? And what about going with “Porky” for the name of the villain from the Mother/Earthbound series, a whole number of years after Americans were used to “Pokey”?
The whole “lost in translation” is no joke. And it just comes from the fact that, not being anal about it, but NoA’s translators are often free to take creative liberties with their translations.
More than likely, I’m betting yes.
For one, we already have a precedent in DX/Melee; that game made it so that English and Japanese text and dialogue was in the game. And besides, I’m willing to bet that the relatively few instances of different dialogue/text wouldn’t take up that much space on the disc. Snake’s Codec conversations are probably the one thing that takes up the most sizable amount of real estate for sound bytes, but of course, the music will definitely outweigh that.
For two, the two versions of the game were basically in the same development spin cycle together. That’s usually a sure sign that both versions of the game are pretty much ready to go, and it’s more or less just a “region switch” type of thing that sets 'em apart.
Finally…it’s been proven that both English and Japanese fans alike appreciate having dual tracks, when available. So, why not give it to 'em?
