That’s a lot of money for first.

I’ll say maybe but $20 is a little wow.

Well… 20 bucks gets you in at the ranbats for SF4 with no guaranteed prizes.

This isn’t a friendly local, it’s a srs business tournament for $$$

Last tournament was run pretty well, considering most other city tournaments are fraught with issues. The organizers are open to feedback and willing to work towards a successful tournament.

Except that *** J-money, he’s a bitch.

lets do this, chicago

A 37-man tournament can achieve a 500+ 1st place payout at 70% of the pot without adding any bonus money.

These high payout tournaments really only mean something if the buy-in isnt super high as well, as the stakes raise naturally with higher buy-ins. I personally don’t think its wrong to do this, but I also don’t like it. I’ll probably have to stay home for this one.

The organizer is guaranteeing the first place prize though, that’s the difference between this and most tournaments. He also organizes many events for other games with similar payouts.

Im not saying the payout isnt legit, but its not a bonus. Its a guarantee. Without announcing 2nd or 3rd place prizes, he just needs 25 people to make that payout without dipping into his pockets, and its purely the product of a higher buy-in, and not some bonus that players could win.

I mean, I could easily say we have a 1000$ guaranteed pot and entry is 100$ a person. Its nice to see big numbers and all, but the cost of entry raising the payout isn’t that special IMO. If it were a 500 bonus on a 10$ tournament, I’d find a way to be there.

Again, nothing against this type of event, its just high-buy-in isn’t my thing so I’m going to sit this one out. Good luck to you guys!

Im glad u said something keits…let me say this TO KILL ALL QUESTIONS…heres my question why in the world would I wanna lose MORE money …who would YOU wanna do that AT MWC…

  1. we guarnteed 500 to whether 25 or less show up… and said if **MORE **show up the prize would go UP

  2. what if 10 only show up…then what…

  3. im coming out my pockets for all the games…etc…and if i guarntee 500 and 10 people show up , then im in a super hole…

  4. last thing if I charged $10 entry fee and only 40 people show up and I guarnteed 5 00 versus if you get a bonus …and 2nd and 3rd where to get prizes…how muc would u be in the hole… the object is to break even because you love doing this not go in the hole.

AGAIN I SAY 500 IS GUARNTEED NO matterhow many show up…WITH A bonus OF MORE if pewople show up…EVEN IF YOU DONT PLAY TO ANY ONE COME SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE COMMUNITY…

Well compare that to every other tournament that has gone on in the past year in Chicago that is charging 10 dollars for the actual tournament on top of 10 dollars for venue. This is only 25 total with a much larger payout regardless of how many show up. More people than you might think have the mindset of “the payout won’t be worth it so I’m not going to bother going.”

On top of that, like the last tournament, it is 500 MINIMUM for 1st. At the last one, the minimum payout for 1st was 150, but Marcus ended up walking away with more than that. Meanwhile, I got a lousy 50 bucks for Tekken. Which is fine, but whatever.

Not all of the tournaments that are being run at the same location are big money events, it’s just that this particular tournament is going to have a high payout, so just for now, it will be a high registration amount. There is a tournament at the same venue a week before with a much smaller entry, and no guaranteed payout, not to mention a launch event on the 27th sponsored by Gamestop to win a free copy of Super 4, and I believe some kind of giftcard or something for 2nd place.

I really support this venue as it gives many of the Chicago southsiders who just can’t get the transportation out to the suburbs a chance to compete, and illumination is taking a risk by willing to putting up whatever isn’t covered by the entry fees into the prize pot to get the guaranteed 500 for first, and that’s something that most people aren’t willing to do.

Anyway it’s a nice change of pace to see at least one tournament where it isn’t just about PLACING but actually WINNING. And like I said this is merely one event out of several that illumination is running, so if you decide to pass on what could be an easy 500, that just gives someone else an easier shot at taking the money.

Oh yeah also illumination might seem a little eccentric but to be honest for the first fighting game tournament that he was in charge of, he definately did an awesome job, and I think everyone who came to the last event can attest to that.

Its going down two weeks away…pass the word… if you wanna come watch come and support the community…lets have a great showing…
