Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

Any tips or tricks/strats for this game?

… pick Ken, he is da best Char in terms of throwing his gems down. Also try to build left and right in your area to avoid a quick death and to counter better. Oh and build combo chains. Do’nt try building gigantic blocks. Go for chains, they add up counter gems etc. very fast and arn’t that hard to set up.

my few cents

Ken & Donovan are the best. And just because Devilot + Akuma drop good patterns and are secret characters they are mid-tier. Chun-Li & Dan are shit tier. Everyone else is pretty much mid

two chain everything… especially your power gems…

know your opponents drops… eg… if you’re playing a ryu… stack red in column’s 2 and three… and top it off with green orbs… you bust a red on the one side, and you fucked up at least a double chain in the first two rows (btw, this doens’t work by itself, you need to compenstate the whole board.

there’s really no set strategy against ken that i know of.

and stacking in crosses helps too, especially when u get a rainbow gem… you fuck the whole shits ups

Abuse the diamond gem glitch. :bluu:

Chain everything.

just because you have more of one color doesnt mean you should diamond that color.

play a lot. youll get better by instinct. but yea use ken. there is seriously no point to using anybody else. as a matter of fact everyone should use ken to balance the game out.

Pardon my ignorance but how exactly do you do the glitch? I never really figured it out…

It requires you to have 1x2 colum of space surrounded by gems (meaning 1 gem on the bottom and two gems on either side or on both sides) or next to a wall. Put the Diamond at the bottom, and then as the diamond is hitting the gem below it, hit a button to flip it to the top.

Come to think of it, this may also work with the gem on top and flipping it so that it’s on the bottom right as it’s landing, but I never bothered to test it.

it works, but it’s a lot trickier…

for a visual… here…

that’s it.

just play the damn game for fun man.

Thanks for clarifying. And for the visual, lol.

And adding to your visual, you can do the glitch while up against the left or right wall, as well.

so it’d be like

Or in reverse on the other side of the screen. Or flip the diamond the other way, lol.

you actually don’t even need a 1x2 column… i’ve seen it done on a 1x1 up against a wall, or 2 high on one side and 1 high on the other… random CTF stuff.

What exactly does the diamond gem glitch do? :wtf:

This thread needs more info. I love this game and I try to make combos galore not big squares but it still doesn’t put me on top. Any other tips?

when you blow up gems with the diamond, it doesn’t do normal damage…

eg…

there’s a 4x4 block of red on the screen… and that’s the only red you have… you blow it up with the diamond, and you’ll do about half the damage you’d do with the regular red ball… (i don’t know specific amount, but half is close)… the glitch negates that, and you do full damage

as far as combos go… work getting the cross strategy working… meaning…

Caps = Gem, Lower case = Ball...

now, that’s a lot bigger than what you’d typically get, but what’ll happen is, you get a diamond, glitch either red or green, and after they’re gone, you get a block of the other color and boom

that’s the strat that i see a lot in chinatown… and that’s one of about three or so that i frequent… (i got more than three though)… idk.

Cool thanks for the info

I’m hardcore into Puzzle Fighter. If anyone wants to play me online, send me a PM and I’ll be happy to challenge.

I havent gotten the hang of the diamond glitch down. Can anyone confirm if the glitch is present in the Dreamcast version?
