i made a thread about it, hdxeno
oh thanks I will copy & paste Teamlist
So i read on teammadcatz’ website that :
" Also competing in TOUGEKI will be the team of Team Mad Catz’s TOPANGA.Mago & TTC.TOKIDO and the surprise team of Iyo the Japanese Street Fighter IV National Champion and Team Mad Catz’s founding member, Daigo ‘The Beast’ Umehara."
what’s up with that ? are they entering the last chance qualifiers, or are have they been awarded some kind of “VIP spot” ?
if thats true thats gonna be one hell of a scary team…

hmm I dont know if its the majority but a lot of people on twitter (+ RT) arent really happy if its true that daigo and iyo is getting in for free just like that (or because they are so called “pro” players)… they were sayin that its not fair to other player who had been trying to qualify everytime (to get the red and blue ticket)
Really, Daigo and Iyo are getting in for free? I know Mago won his spot during that tourney from a few weeks ago when he beat Nekojita(top Abel in BP). But I assumed that Daigo and Iyo were just going to enter the last chance qualifier. But that’s pretty messed up if they got in for free instead just because of there rep.
I can’t believe Arcadia would do that. That completely undermines their legitimacy as a tournament directing organization.
hmm yeah, i think daigo n iyo are going to enter the last chance qualifiers… i doubt theyll get in for free
BUT…
if im not mistaken, priority are given to players who at least have the red ticket to enter the last chance qualifiers, and both daigo and iyo have none. people are saying that why are they given special treatment while other strong players (but not “pro”) had to bust their asses travelling etc to get the chance to enter…
again, this thing is still at “rumor” level to me, i havent really dug in for more info, merely just statin what im seeing on twitter (aka peoples opinions)…
i find it good for the tournament altogether that daigo and iyo get a shot a the last chance. it’s pretty safe to say that if they had really tried getting a spot from the beginning, they would have earned one.
at the beginning, there was some kind of consensus among “pros” that they would “boycott SBO” but one at a time they gave in and tried to enter… maybe daigo and iyo felt cheated about this boycott thing…
i wanna see iyo though… the world needs to see iyo lol
It’d be ridiculous if they got in for free. They are players like everyone else and should be treated as such, no special exceptions should be made for anyone ever.
Diago and Iyo should get in free if people care about sponsor, money and E-sport. This is how the real money world works. Private events are always like this in the real world. This is call sponsor invitation. Like in Tennis or Golf. The host is allow to invite anybody that they want. Like Sony Open, Sony has a sponsor invitation spot for any player that they want. Example, Michelle Wie got invited to Men’s tournament without qualifying for the tournament.
Either you guys said, “fuck the sponsors, we don’t need their money, we won’t enter their tournament” or allow them invite who ever they want. It’s no different than other tournaments organizers invite jp players to their tournaments. Jp players don’t have to pay for anything, most US players probably pay for travel, fee for the tournaments, etc.
anyway from what i heard iyo is entering with his dhalsim… blergh… i wanna see his ibuki wrecking everyone.
Yeah I heard that…How disappointing.
SWEET! Iyo is my idol! About time i see new gameplay footage of his GDLK Dhalsim
I think Iyo will use Ibuki.
Because he is using Ibuki at Shinjuku Taito Station now.
Maybe Daigo’s manager misunderstood or something.
See BeastNote http://beastnote.blogspot.com/2011/09/umehara-iyo-in-tougeki-2011.html
He hasn’t mained Dhalsim since Super came out, only every once in awhile. I want him to use Ibuki, Dhalsim gameplay ftl.
Except fighting games aren’t really e-sports in the traditional sense. I still think it’s bullshit, Daigo isn’t anymore special than any other top player, and neither is Iyo. If they wanted to enter so badly they should’ve played a qualifier. You do not need to explain sports to me and how it works in the economical/business sense, it is hardly a fair comparison.
