Suggestion Thread

Don’t want to be that guy making a self centered topic, but I’ve really been meaning to get more into american comics, but have no clue where to start.

I enjoy the Marvel universe and am currently making my way through the Civil War and House of M storylines. but other than that I have no idea where to go from there.

So I’m making a topic for suggestions and a helpful starting point for myself, and anyone else who wants to get into comics but doesn’t know where the hell to start or what to read.

So any suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

If you liked DeadPool in Civil War, I strongly recommend getting the Cable and DeadPool series, it funny and has good action.

If you like sci-fi stuff, I recommend reading Annihilation; the series is collected in 3 books IIRC. If you liked that, continue with Nova and its sequel A. Conquest.

If you like espionage-esque stuff, Brubaker’s Captain America series is the way to go.

Messiah CompleX is good too;
it deals with the X-Men

and their enemies as they fight to ‘claim’ the first newborn Mutant since the House of M.

This resulted in some great stories that took place in X-Men Legacy and X-Force, both of which have been GREAT recently.

Wolverine’s series has been awesome so far as well, might want to look into that as well.

Ghost Rider is wonderful IMO; although the first stories might not impress you much, once Jason Aaron got on this book it became epicly awesome.

There are also some good DC books that I could recommend as well if you want.

One more thing; when considering reading a comic series, focus on the writing not the character, that lead me to read some very good and entertaining series.

Anything from Brubaker
