Capcom interview about the new game

Will probably pick it up. Looking good so far and I hope it’s suitably difficult. I want Meat Boy difficulty.
I don’t think you quite know what you are saying when you say that.
I unlocked The Kid.
COME AT ME BRO!
I can’t believe someone other than SuperTroll feels you need to grind in a metroidvania game, ESPECIALLY SOTN.
this man knows nothing about DmC & Remember Me.
not hyped. not hyped at all.
No Cannon Dancer creator, no buy.
2D?! where they do that at?
Evidently it’s 2.5D, a la SF4.
It’s a great game and over 20 years ago. He still produced a turd and it just happened to be the last game he directed.
Yeah, arcade Strider and Cannon Dancer barely had any flat surfaces. More than half of the game, Hiryu climbed on walls, climbed on ceilings/overhangs, swung on vines, ran down >45° slopes, et fucking cetera. That (and the off-the-wall design and locales) made Strider stand apart from any other idiot with a sword, way back in 1990. And Cannon Dancer was even better.
But I think this game is based more on Strider NES, with some Strider 2 thrown in.
PS. Not like anybody makes 2d platformers anymore, but I’d like to see games that give scoring bonuses for executing a platforming sequence perfectly. Matter of fact, a scoring or power-up incentive instead of a death consequence would help nerf the game for casual scrubs, and keep the gameplay hardcore for real gamers.
You know exactly what he meant
Strider 2 elements, great.
Strider NES as a base, stupid.
Not a Strider 3 game, even more stupid.
Personally I don’t want to see a 3D version of Strider like NG or Shinobi. I most definitely don’t want to see a reboot or remake of the franchise. If Capcom just HAD to do this game, it should be more closely based on the actual manga then expand upon what was great from Cannon Dancer and Moon Diver (if anything).
Strider’s world had tons of potential with the manga & the other better versions, but it seems when it comes to direction, it’s always has ADHD. But that’s Capcom for ya. And no matter who is doing what in development, outsourcing to western developer is still not the way to go. Granted it worked with Dead Rising 1, but it’s has a horrible record with Capcom.
Itsuno’s team + Isuke’s team + internal development would’ve been god-like.
but can’t complain too much, can we?
The original Dead Rising wasn’t outsourced, the sequel was. Capcom outsource the Bionic Commando: Rearmed and it was great. Also most of the other original Strider devs are working on this game. Double Helix is a co-developer.
I think that’s what you meant to say. You are positively tripping balls if you think there aren’t new platformers being made. Oh god there might even be too many.
Edit: Also I agree about Strider/Cannon Dancer. The ground really didn’t matter.
Another interview with Double Helix.
Thanks Hawkingbird for that article, I’m starting to think that Double Helix has come full circle.
The game looks really fun though…to the old school~
Capcom…piling up shit on top of gold since SF4…
I honestly believe that Strider has always had the potential of being a real money maker for Capcom if it got the proper work put in. This sure as hell doesn’t look like it.
Sounds cool. I liked what I saw of the trailer, and I’m looking forward to this. I thought it’d be cool if Capcom had Treasure work on this, instead of Gaise Crusher, but oh well. Remaining positive!
Didn’t know original Strider was on the NES, had it on the Genesis though.
Haven’t seen too many 2D platformers either. This on the PC? Not there yet, myself.
So far I’m undecided on what I think of it. Still though, new Strider!
It’s for PC, basically…it’s for everything but Nintendo…
