My stength: Rushdown and streaking. The down side is that it takes me a while of warm up to start any type of win streaks. I really need to be able to hop on the sticks ready.
I have no strengths in fighting games, I’ve been horrible at them ever since SF2:WW at the convenience store across the street of my middle school.
I have the strength to play a character that nobody wants to play against.
My weakness is execution. Again, why I play the aforementioned character.
I’d really like to see an upturn of posts here. I understand the joking side to it, but I’d really like to see the people who REALLY want to improve, be able to understand that they can come here for advice towards finding their strength and how they can work on it…instead of silly answers that aren’t really helping any.
Josh: To be honest man, dunno if thats a strength…this could mean that your fundamentals are basic, however your technical play is weaker (technicality comes with practice, and fundamentals are dormant). It could also mean that your at a constant level of plateau (which we’ve talked about personally)…But a player strength shouldn’t come to “I haven’t played in awhile, but I still rape.” This is a strength among many in which you cannot improve…try thinking about how you play the game and what you TRULY shine in everytime you do it…could it be your runaway? Your ability to zone? Testing your opponents patience?
Strength in one’s play style is defined as something that you have that outshines everyone else. Something that NOT MANY can do as well as you. Something that you can CARVE YOUR PLAYSTYLE AROUND in order to become the best player you can be.
For LTB, his patience is his strength. For Cole, his ability to read his opponent is his strength. For Jacob, his ability to be versatile with many characters is his (this can lead into counter picking when Jacob gets REALLY good).
Lets start trying to be a bit more serious, Frank didn’t start this to say…“My strength is to beat super joe in pillow fights” in the beginning of this post…he came serious and was trying to get some insight as to how others would think about this…can yall at least give him that?
EDIT: RIki, your one of the fewer new players that can actually focus on this to make yourself better. What exactly do you mean by streaking? Because if you mean getting large win STREAKS, I think it’s nonsensical to even post “My strength is to beast on people consistently.” I’m sure you meant something different though, because your smart enough to know that “streaking” isn’t what makes a player strong…
I think I might’ve messed up on explaining the strengths thing So I’ll ask two questions and we’ll start again, cause while some ppl are explaining strengths I think the follow up question will really define what I was trying to get @:
- Out of your playstyle, what is your biggest strength? What is one thing you can say about your gameplay that you strongly believe is your best asset? Defense? Offense? Execution? Baiting/punishment? Momentum? Clutch/Comeback? Adaptation? Mindgames? Reading your opponent? I mean the list is pretty huge, but think of it like this…You remember those marvel cards back in the day that had the different stats based off of 1-10? Well for me mine would look like this as an example:
Defense: 7
Offense: 8
Execution: 6
Momentum: 10
Clutch: 9
Adaptation: 4
So while I’m strong (and weak) categories, I’m confident to say that Momentum and Clutch are my two biggest strengths.
NOW
- What can I do to make my strengths even stronger?
For me, things I can do to improve momentum, if to know when I should be going on the offensive, applying pressure, finding ways to build momentum, and MORE IMPORTANTLY take momentum from my opponent, cause let’s face it if I am taking momentum from you in a sense I’m gaining momentum (Hammer). I guess that’s what I’m ultimately trying to get out of you guys. And like Mickey said it’s goign to take a lot of soul searching and really looking at yourself as a player not as your character to find out what your strengths are. But in the end you’ll emerge as a better player because you’ll be confident in your playstyle, then you can truly work on improving what needs to be worked on.
No matter how rough the game is, i can always make the game ST style!
oh ok i get you. well, i feel like my strength would be the ability to zone an opponent. my patience usually wears thin before my opponents lol. my runaway is decent, but again i get impatient and start rushing.
from playing yama in cvs2 and ibuki in 3s, zoneing/turtling -> rushdown was a playstyle i liked. so the transition to akuma worked out nicely.
Now what can you do to make those stronger? You kinda already showed what you could work on to improve zoning/defense/turtling. Be more patient.
Frank’s redzone bison is too raw.
Well there ya go! So gearing your game towards this…in which you already do…is going to be beneficial. But NOW to take it a step further, you gotta think about how to carve your play style like this. For instance…your going to need to understand why it’ll be good to zone in certain situations over rushing down (as well as vise versa). And to be good at that, your gonna have to look into risk/reward situations…so your going to have to get a bit technical with stuff.
Hopefully this gives ya some insight…basically the goal is to get players into playing towards their strength in order to define their play style.
Well to be completely honest my strength’s are dependent on the character and even matchups. For instance, I love to rushdown, but with Zangief, I find my rushdown situations very limited against common tournament characters. With Rufus, I’m at my best when a hole in the opponent’s game allows me to rush them down completely (example, they aren’t punishing dive kick and I’m mixing it up at every opportunity).
My biggest weakness is zoning (if that is the correct term). I’ll often find myself unable to walk forward and close distance, in fear that I won’t be able to block a poke in time. I also fear simple things like using Zangief’s GH to move under Akuma fireballs, or using Rufus’ roll to get out of crossups.
If I had to choose:
Offense - 6
Defense- 5
Execution- 4
Momentum- 8
Frustration - An issue (though I am generally patient)
EDIT: Also thought I’d mention that I’m a pretty quiet guy, but that doesn’t mean I’m not open to advice/critique/input. If you see me at gameworks, or a tournament, I’m all ears if you see me making mistakes or have any advice that you think might improve my game.
ive been told i have good patience and a momentum factor.
id agree im patient but atm im probably too patient which ties in with me not applying enough pressure and not having control over momentum. similar to what frankadank said i need to work on when to be offensive and applying more pressure.
i can see myself running into a brick wall against characters like Balrog and Rufus’s block strings, their pressure from very fast and damaging block strings steals my momentum and i need to find a way around that flip the tables somehow… so that they are unable to apply their block strings. in thinking of how to prevent myself from sitting there blocking the only thing i can boil it down to is zoning, i must not be aware enough of these quicker hitting character’s zone game, so i must be letting them in too close…
Keep in mind that giving yourself a 5 in any category is like saying the best Street Fighter IV player in the world is only twice as good as you.
Always so condescending.
I was personally weighting my strength’s and weaknesses to eachother, not against daigo’s strengths and weaknesses.
one way would be to have everything add up to one number. for example, for me:
Defense: 2
Offense: 5
Execution: 3
Momentum: 5
Clutch: 3
Adaptation: 2
would be how i’m divided if i had 20. although this is more how i feel am overall in all fighting games, and i’m trying to work and shape myself to this point in SFIV (since SFIV isn’t at all what I’m best at).
Defense: 1
Offense: 1
Execution: 1
Momentum: 1
Clutch: 1
Adaptation: 1
What can I say, I suck pretty bad.
dude what is up with the hate flying out of your mouth 24/7? That’s all I hear no matter where you’re at. You need to wash your mouth out with some anti-hate soap and get your shit together cause you’re falling behind everyone else FAST.
I wish I could pinpoint my key strengths, but I tend to be pretty average in all the areas mentioned before. If I could boost one strength now it would be execution, which I am working on.
It’s just elliot’s satirical sense of humor, lighten up guys.
I don’t know what my strengths are, really. Good execution? I mean I have to default to a gimmicky character because I can’t play solid like everyone else and still win. I just have to do stupid shit. But uh, I have good execution I suppose. It’s not often I’m frustrated at my execution mistakes.
You guys need to calm the hell down.
If I was putting H.Duke on blast, I would definitely quote or reply to his post, or say HEY H.DUKE. The fact that he had one “5” in his post when I was talking about giving yourself a 5 is purely coincidental.
