Streets of Rage 4 Announced!

Hype as fuck, but why did they make Axel fat?

I think it’s just the shirt animation but I agree it makes him look fat, even if that wasn’t the intent

After Double Dragon Neon, I’m more skeptical than hype about this. Hopefully they won’t fuck this up.

He doesn’t look fat.

Even in the frames where it shows his massively broad chest he "V"s down properly, and the next frames twist to make it even more obvious.

If anything he looks more jacked than ever.

Check out his stomach area when doing some of the in game punches. The shirt billows out in a way that makes his stomach look fat.

To be honest, now that Ive come down from the hype and looking and things more objectively…

Im not too fond of the art direction. I get why it had to be modernised, but I feel the loss of “realistic” looking sprites means the game has lost a bit of its character.

This FEELS a bit like Sonic 4, in that… it shouldn’t have ever been called Sonic 4 as it couldn’t live up to the original trilogy. It was only until we got Sonic Mania that we got a true, spiritual Sonic 4.

I hope Im wrong, but this just gives the same vibe. It would have been better if this was called something else maybe like a Streets of Rage Ultra or whatever.

Oh and watch Adam and Max will be a $5 DLC each 0_o

Edit: Ruby rose for boss FTW. I have a feeling she will actually be a new playable character, maybe even a secret one like Shiva was.

I honestly do not see what the naysaying the art direction is all about.

The style of the O.G. trilogy was a product of the limits of the time, and a gorgeous display or what could be done within those pixely limitations.

I mean, there were other directions they could have gone, but they had to choose something.

I think it is fine as is.

If they apply slightly different shading and lighting to add some more depth to the models I would not object, though.

Uh, because people have different tastes?

Uh… huh.

Which is what I was commenting on.

Sorry if you can’t infer what I plainly said.

A lot of people are riled up in here acting like it is a finished product or something.

We’ve had all of two main stays revealed, and 10 seconds of actual play.

I’ll reserve judgement until closer to release.

As it stands, the action flows gorgeously.

You said “I honestly do not see what the naysaying the art direction is all about.” I replied directly to that. Like yeah, they could have gone any which way, like keeping it on the gritty side the originals had, but they didn’t. So of course people are going to have feelings about that. So now you can see why, right?

Who’s riled up? Hoping they do a good job and wanting it to look good is not being riled up.

Yeah, animation looks great as far as how it actually animates, I’m just not a fan of how the artstyle itself looks or how the individual frames are drawn since, for example, some of them make Axl look like he has a large belly, even though that obviously isn’t the intent.

You do realize that what I said was simply another way of expressing my disagreement with their sentiment, right?

You understand that not every stated thing is to be read with literal tone-deafness, that words express and denote different things based upon context and phraseology, correct?

It is entirely too flat, as it stands, currently, imo.

But it is a work in progress.

Shading and lighting and filters are endgame touches.

It looks great in motion.

I gladly cede that the line of the characters, particularly Axel, could use some work.

Okay, a lot of work, in Axel’s case.

But once again, the general asthetic is not problematic to me.

SEVERAL anatomical errors and clothing hanging inconsistencies DO bother me, when paused.

Then why even say it that way? What’s the point? It just feels like you’re trying to make other people look like they’re impossible to understand or that they don’t make sense.

Because I speak English.

He doesn’t look fat, he looks badly drawn.

What? How is that even a reply?

To say “I honestly do not see what the naysaying the art direction is all about.” when you do understand just comes across as you deliberately trying to belittle other opinions. So why do it? Just to be a dick for no reason other than it makes you feel better?

You can literally see his shirt stretching as if he has a large stomach, and completely without any muscle definition. Like he LITERALLY looks fat. I don’t even understand why you’re trying to avoid saying that when you already agree that it doesn’t look good in that frame.

2 Unlimited the group is actually still doing work today. Just a new female singer recently. Ray is still there and Anita was back for a while too but left recently. Ray & Anita the original 2 Unlimited did 5-6 new songs over the years since 2009 as well.

And with ANY game keep in mind this is in development. Anything can change. And think about how much WORK goes into animation alone too.
