Streetfighter Beginner's Guide

Hey you guys, if you’ve ever had trouble explaining the basics of streetfighter to a brother, a girlfriend or especially a gamer who just never got into fighters cuz he never understood them here’s something for the people who want to learn.

It’s 400 K zipped it even has a neat cover.

It explains:

Blocking, Comboes, Character Types, and has a special advanced section at the back. (it’s not long or anything though)

It has alot of pictures to help explain what’s going on.

It’s real basic but i think it’s good.

comments?

It’s actually pretty good. I would’ve put mixup characters in the basic section as well though, even though they can really be any type (out of the general types)

I like it. I do this for specific games when playing with my friends at college who might not know the basic operation of a game they haven’t played.

Cute, but given the size of the download I thought it would be like, 100+ pages or so, even with graphics (sorry, I’m on 56k).

Really cool idea but you need to bust out some spelling check, grammar check, capitalization check before you release something like that. Otherwise new people reading it are just going to dismiss it thinking you are an amateur (for example, it’s “combos” not “comboes” and you need to use way more periods).

Just some notes:

  1. If you have to define the word “ticks” anyway then why not just call them “frames” like everyone else does? There’s already a use for the term “tick” in SF and it has nothing to do with frames.
  2. You could have picked something way better for link combos than two jabs. Most of the time that’s a chain because most of the time you are canceling it. Yes you can link them, but it’s pretty fucking hard even for pros. How 'bout like low strong low forward? Ryu has had that forever.
  3. At the end of the cancel explanation, you use the word “normally” in kind of an unclear way. You should just say that lots of special moves must be canceled from a hard attack in order to combo. They won’t count as a combo if canceled from a light attack.
  4. It’s my opinion that you missed something important in the whole hitbox thing. If i was you, i would go out of my way to explain that no expert player sees or thinks of hit boxes while they are playing. Hit boxes help explain some things that happen in the game, but trying to use memorized hit boxes in a real match is too distracting and usually hurts the player’s strategy. They are only useful for explaining and understanding general SF concepts.

Of course you also forgot a whole bunch of stuff but i can understand that if you make this thing too long, most beginners will get bored. Here’s a list anyway:
corners (and their strategic uses)
special moves / super moves
invincibility
wakeup games / reversals
traps
block damage

Like i said, great idea. I hope you don’t think i’m being too critical because i’m not trying to be a hater. But you should have taken more time to do this. Nobody else was going to beat you to it, heh.

Not at all.

I appreciate the feed back, I just hope it helps someone out.

I guess this can be a first draft i did it all on paint >_>.

I know i put in marvel characters but at the same time i want it to be as universal as possible.

I’ll see if i can revise it shrug maybe.

Well thanks for the feed back and i wasn’t suggesting that you memorize hit boxes and i guess is hould try to change it if more people think i was.

I was just trying to say find out the priority of a move and if it’s high priority try using it.

edit: Majestros thanks alot i prolly do need to revise it.

i’m really sorry to dissapoint you man, i guess i’ll put a page count next time. I appreicate you downloading it and i put the highest compression possible >_< does anyone know how to compress it further?

Hey, Can i get in on this. I know enough information about SF, and im very good with photoshop, and etc (graphic designer in real life actually). I would love to make the graphics, and help out.

Hell, maybe we sould also spice up the Buktooth guides…a graphica guide for a single character would rock so much ass. Anyone wanna make a project of this?

That’s good stuff.

HTML it, save it like a web page, save it on word, save as pdf, etc. That way, you’ll save text as text, not as an image. It’ll also be easier to edit. Given that amount of graphics it actually contains, you’ll only need probably something less than 100k, uncompressed. The method you’re using is saving each page as an image file, which makes the files gigantic.

I’m on some sort of teaching streak right now, so I’d also like to get in on making this better. I’ll see what I can come up with in a universal aspect instead of game-specific.

thanks, i’ve always wondered why some moves have more priority

Hooray for explanations on priority!

I think it’d be easier to start with the defensive aspects of everything. The defensive notes for throws are very simple: you can’t block them. For offense, it’s more complex because you have to explain what hit stun and block stun are.

You could reformat it a little so the defensive tactics are first, and then you can introduce the offensive tactics as ways to breach the defenses.
