yeah, I noticed that before too, but I haven’t really been able to get it consistently. I feel like it might have something to do with height. Or not idk
I mean that you need to hit the follow-up at frame perfect timing, similar to how some specials on tag in work. Or maybe Kazuya EWGF as a 1F special is a better comparison.
Not only does it need to be frame perfect (with the hit frame), it is also height dependent. Too high and it won’t work. With the proper timing, there is nothing that holds you back to do it every time tho.
I was just playing online and I managed to get it 4 consecutive times, it’s not hard once you get it down. It’s more of a nuisance though IMHO since you can press any K after any version of Convict kick to trigger the DDT, meaning you will occasionally get it when just trying to tag of a convict kick. Which has already happened to me 3 times in the little bit of play time I had this morning.
Edit:
I just noticed HK Convict Kick deals 70 damage plus the 120 from DDT which is 10 more damage than a HP Power Bomb, will have to check which option actually deals more damage when I get home. Also, zUkUu or anyone else, perhaps you can shed some light on this: I got the DDT animation when I pressed both MK and MP, so I assume the DDT sort of negates the MP input and therefore it gives you a DDT instead of a tag? Why is this, because the DDT technically doesn’t act like a hit up until the very end of the actual animation?
It just has a higher input priority. I think you can do EWFG with MK+MP as well. It doesn’t even need to be frame perfect tho, DDT will ALWAYS come out if you use MP+MK, unless you use it against an airborne opponent.
Bascially yes. Follow-ups to a special move in this game has a higher priority than a tag (eg. King’s DDT, Lei’s follow-up after flip kick, etc.). The only way to tag is if you input MP+MK during frames in which you can NOT go to a follow-up, and I’m afraid King doesn’t have that window. I did not test if you could do it with 2 players in the same situation.
Again I’m still a noob at frame data but this is what the guide says: Input K within 15 frames of connecting for DDT, K input during any frames of start up will prevent DDT from executing.
So this would mean you could press any K during startup and then press MK+MP for a tag during the active portion and you’ll get tag, amirite?
Wow I wanted to elaborate more but my brain just farted and I realize I have no idea what I have to calculate to come up with the amount of frames you have in order to trigger the DDT.
Yes. Pressing K before start-up (you have to press it quite early actually, and iirc it doesn’t work when the opponent is airborne) will give you the slow version of the kick which does 30 damage and is much more unsafe on hit/block. You can tag cancel after this, like you said.
Well, afaik it shouldn’t have worked in the first place (talking about tag cancel and not DDT), but I don’t know that much about King, so I can only assume so in mashing part. Maybe there was a hidden change in 2013. (I do know that just frame DDT didn’t work on airborne opponent due to insufficient juggle potential pre-2013, so maybe something in Konvict Kick has changed)
I just got home and the first thing I did was hit the training room.
Bison launcher into King, cr.mp, st.hp xx hk convict kick, tag cancel works.
At the end when I tag King back in I first show a convict kick without the input during startup and the second one is with the input. If you look back at the convict kick tag you can clearly see that it’s the fast one, without the input.
Is there any way to show dummy input? Still haven’t gotten my new capture card so I can’t show you my input otherwise.
I see. I’ll actually test it after I upgrade my PC version to 2013. I failed it 50 times after doing it pre-2013. I trust you in that it is not the slow version.
