If we are talking about how good throws can be we could mention CE, but I talked about range, not SF4’s throws are too good or unavoidable. In fact there are ridiculous ranges in some cases (which changes the way footsies are played), and those three games run in a completely different manner, so each aspect has different importance and this obviously includes throws. I also know there are reasons behind those mechanics, and matchups as well as character viability are among them.
I know almost nothing about 3s, but in ST (and SF2 at all), if both players know how to do, generally is so difficult to close distance that is pretty fair that throws have strenght, since you have not so much ways to mixup your opponent in order to open his defense. In SF4, sometimes, the untechable knockdown is significantly more important than the throw itself.
I have seen a pattern. Most of the top Pros still play the game alot. The causal players like myself still enjoy the game alot. but the players in the middle who take it too serious and arent as good as they think they are hate the game.
There’s this really funny middle ground of FG players who create most of the dickish comments/negativity on these boards. They’ve played FGs long enough to consider themselves part of the scene and somewhat of a serious player but not good enough to be part of the truly skilled players. This seems to create players who just want to talk shit about other player’s skill and usually can be heard bleating on about how every game is too dumb for them and catered to ‘the scrubs’. You’ll also see them regurgitate anything negative pro players say in the hope of earning said player’s respect. Really good players (and ironically the ‘casuals’) just stfu and play the games.
both casuals and pros dedicate their time just to that specific game (the former to learn the basics, the latter to improve or not forget their skills). A casual player has not much to say anyway, while a pro has a right to say anything since he passed the stage of doubt.
those in the middle ground are undecided or undecisive as to whether to continue with that game or continue with something else and better in their opinion.
The pros play the game because of competition, not because of how good it is. A lot of pros have said they don’t like it much. There isn’t some negativity conspiracy happening, most people just don’t think the game is good.
Out of curiosity is Japan still playing or have they dropped it already?
I think much of the negativity is artificial and unwarranted. I still greatly enjoy the game and it is a blast to play, especially if it’s with just Boost Gems, but I feel like the FGC limits itself by banning gems outright even when there’s now a method to pick them out without going to the main menu. There’s a lot of dick-waving and misplaced pride going around that’s purposely limiting the fun factor of this game (how would you like it if HD meter activation was banned because it kills 80-100% health?) because it’s an unconventional idea and misconceived as “pay to win” when most of the pay gems aren’t that great barring the dreaded Lv. 3 Autoguard.
It’s new, it’s different, and what we don’t understand, we try to destroy. It pains me to see all of these so-called pros whine because they haven’t learned how to properly manage time and instead allow their opponents to tag out where a fresh partner can come in and reset the situation. GET IN THERE!
lol, how was it “misconceived” as pay-to-win when that’s EXACTLY what it became? It doesn’t matter if there’s ten paid gems as good as Ultimate Defense or only one, it’s still a wildly apparent advantage that players are meant to pay for. It’s not even situational and doesn’t require any risk, sacrifice or strategy. Just equipping Ultimate Defense obviously seems like the “best” way to play the game; no other gem loadout even comes close. I HIGHLY doubt gems were ever intended to be a productive mechanic actually in service to the game itself. Considering all of the DLC gems are already on the disc anyway, I see no reason not to believe the system wasn’t simply designed to just be another method of post-launch monetization.
Anyway, the more hate piled on the better, regardless of how good *some *of the game might be underneath the piles of garbage. The most important factor here is to give Capcom the message that the cash grabbing shit pulled with SFxT shouldn’t be acceptable.
