It won’t be as damaging because the two situations were far too different. During SF3, almost nobody cared anymore and it made very little headlines if any, while also turning off competitive players overall all together. Worst yet, their was also No Real Good Ports to the game for the Home Console which also affected it’s sales and distributions.
The issue we have with SF:V is the lack of a Solo-Mode and the fact that on Launch date, the Online Servers are gimped (which is not surprising when you look at the history of gaming online launch dates). Overall, it will not have the same impact in the same destructive manner as SF3 which had multiple facets which ended it’s demise.
Once the online is resolved to become less of an issue with greater stability then a lot of the outcry will have calmed down since although those who may have complained about a lack of a 1-player mode will now at least be able to play online efficiently.
Capcom doing garbage at this moment is really a myth. Have you not seen their Monster Hunter franchise? That franchise alone makes them bank, considering it’s so Popular in the Asia that they even have a Monster Hunter Theme at their Universal Studios. I would even argue that Monster Hunter makes even More Money then Street Fighter itself. With my trips to Japan, H.K. and Mainland China and let me tell you…that this franchise from Capcom is without question thriving extremely well.
Let’s also not forget the popularity of Dragon’s Dogma Online, which had over 1 million people downloading that game by it’s 10th day of availability and that was just in Japan alone! If this game ever gets a release outside of Japan…please, this ratio would jump up even higher and they would once again have the same issue SF:V is having with their online workings.
So the idea that Capcom is completely gimped or that they don’t know how to take care of their franchises is only half right to some degree. They bombed hard on RE6 for Obvious reasons and their stint with Megaman is stupid, however their other flagship games are definitely doing just fine.
So we are gonna go back to the dark ages of st at evo mainstage, being surrounded by people who really love the genre and no smash tournaments at our tournies?
I’d love to see how many bustas get shook because suddenly we arent eSports anymore.
That may be true, but Capcom has been the most relevant developer of fighting games on main events (EVO, CEO…). It would be sad for they to lose this on the same year that we will see the release of KoF14 and a new Guilty Gear and Blazblue. If Tokido’s right and in 2017 the Fighting game Community goes back to USF4 it would be a total failure.
To let fall the franchises that the fans that brought you there love and support, like Megaman, Res Evil or now Street Fighter, is a shame. And yes: You’re getting rich with Monster Hunter and Dragons Dogma, but, at this price?
100% agree with OP.
The lack of content is absolutely disgusting, but fanboys will be fanboys.
Had a quick skim of the thread whilst waiting on my account being approved, and quite honestly, only the Street Fighter die hards are defending it. Anyone else is just a “casual” in their eyes. Lol (It seems that some people here have that stereotype fighting game superiority complex)
First of all, the AI difficulties are available in training, why isn’t there a simple 1P v CPU?
Was there any reason to take an incomplete game out of beta? Beta offered online matches, and survival mode is the only half decent single player option available.
Now here’s what really annoys me: not everyone is able to connect their PS4 to the internet, for various different reasons of course. It’s all well and good to argue “but the content comes later”, forgetting not everyone has that option. I’ve been there myself for a good part of the PS3’s lifespan, unable to enjoy some games due to missing content, game breaking bugs, etc and no means to update my game.
I believe all game modes should be accounted for on day one.
Could of shipped with 12 characters? 8? The game is crashing for me if I try to join ppl so im wondering what could be worse might be. Not to mention with ppl talking about the lack of modes and features no one seems to be talking about the mediocre roster that we get to wait to be improved while we wait for the game to actually work.
The only thing I’m missing is an option to save my changes in training mode(?). It resets everytime I leave it.
And you can’t seem to select if you want to use stage or character BGM’s to play.
The story mode, however, is really embarrassing. Even a 10 battle arcade mode with a ‘thank you for playing’ at the end would have been better than this,
Like…serious elitism going on here. I should seriously be satisfied with not even being able to 1 v cpu if I can’t be online? A feature that has been in every halfway decent fighting game for the last decade on release? And the notion of “just wait a month to buy the game, scrub” is laughable. What, the pre-order was only available to the most competitive of players? So far, I’ve only had the energy to grind a bit in training mode and fail to lobby with anyone.
EDIT: btw, I’m no stranger to 6 hour training mode grinds, just not what I was expecting to be forced into day 1.
DmC was good. It was better than the old DMC games. I like new Dante.
Old Dante only looks cool because people have nostalgia from 2003 when that old character design looked cool. And everyone likes to forget DMC4 was garbage tier.
Yeah I said it. Old Dante blows. New Dante may not be the greatest thing ever but there isn’t shit that’s attractive about old Dante. Fight me. <3
People forget SFIV only had ~16 chars. All you console plebs got the game a YEAR LATER and they added a whole bunch more (Fei, Cammy, etc.) Those of us who played SFIV in arcade had about the same amount of characters that are in SFV now. There are lots of things wrong with the launch but roster size isn’t one of them.
If you don’t like the value proposition now, don’t buy it. For me, the single player features are not a big deal, and I’m happy to be able to play the game earlier than if it were delayed to include those features. That perspective might not be shared by you, and that’s fine, but don’t complain as if Capcom are forcing you to buy it.
If someone sells a product that doesn’t fulfill your expected value then don’t buy it. It doesn’t make sense to act as though they’re scamming you, when they’ve been perfectly transparent about what features are present within the game.
