I’m tired of hearing stupid phrases like “Great crouching medium kick! Jump back… MEDIUM PUNCH?? Wow, where’d THAT come from?! SOMEBODY’s got some new tech we ain’t known about! Whow, look at that standing light kick! Command throw! Back medium kick! Down medium punch! Call the press! THREE medium kicks IN A ROW??! Now just WHAT was that back medium punch? Must have been an input error or a divine read 'cause these players are OUT OF THIS WORLD OF ORDINARY FOLKS! Another medium punch! Crouching light kick! Jumping light punch! Swirling medium kick! So much control with those magnificent medium kicks!”

It sounds unbelievably stupid for one, and secondly casual viewers unfamiliar with SF don’t know what the hell a “medium punch” is - this terminology should be reserved for written speech and not public speech or commentary.

Cr.LK? Call it a low kick as it actually matches what’s happening on screen to everybody and just SF-gurus, and keep things moving. There have been many a times where a commentator isn’t sure what button some move was, and they venture off-topic to determine exactly what button it was, as if the spectator feasting on a bag of chips really gives a shit.

The spectator numbers on streams have steadily increased since '09 but it’s still only a fraction of people who own SFV - what about all those who don’t??

“Nice air-to-air!!” as if it’s some specific technique - all he did was jump and meet him in the air so why not just articulate that in a non-disproportinate but just a natural manner?

Just call it a kettle if that’s what it is - no need to be poetic and calling it a wonderful kettle of really fine craftsmanship.

I admit if I stumble upon some stream and the commentators are hyped it might very well catch my interest, but it’ll surely fade if all they say is “Nice kowa-yowa! Great zuru-buru! THREE zuru-burus IN A ROW??!?”

I like Ross, Zhi and Sirlin and Skisonic and all those, but I would like to have simpler terminology in the interest of a more a accessible entertainment show for outsiders of the community - besides that it still sounds freaking stupid to articulate things like “medium punch” to a public broadcast, and even to insiders - I’m familiar with a cr.MP so stop the oral masturbation and just call it something simple like low punch - SF is typically a hectic game so keep things quick and simple to understand so we can move at the same pace as the matches are.

Stopped reading as soon as you said people don’t know what a fucking medium punch is, you utter dipshit.

WHAT THE FUCK IS A LOW PUNCH!!!

The commentary today is like they’re playing whack-a-mole - “Crouching light punch! Standing light kick! Crouching medium punch! Jumping medium kick! THREE WOOKIE-POOKIES IN A ROW!!!”

As opposed to Zhi making retarded jokes, repeating the same shit meme, saying “Thuggery” in response to everything people do and making references to films every 5 seconds. God forbid they talk about what’s happening on screen, you’re also simplifying what commentators say also. UltraChen will explain the usage behind buttons, I enjoy David’s ability to pick apart plays from individual players and put it across simply for everyone to understand.

“I love that meaty crouching light punch, it’s working so well against X’s Y!”

“You see that stand strong completely stuffing the opponent’s X, and it’ll be interesting to see how Y responds to this!”

But considering your track record with posts on this forum, I highly doubt you have the mental capacity to just sit and listen to something before becoming bewildered with the nearest shiny object.

We shouldnt dumb things down. People are capable of learning new things.

yea man I feel like especially on red bull and the espn broadcast… they did a great job explaining things and phrases… part of the stimulation part is to get folks involved in the vernacular. If you can’t piece together what crouching medium punch is you aren’t engaged and have no interest in really learning whats going on.

But “crouch medium punch” is just a phrase - contrary to popular conviction, it doesn’t carry any more weight than “low punch”. “Crouching medium punch” is not a deep lesson to learn - it’s a term we use amongst ourselves

to pinpoint what we mean. In a public broadcast, tempo and ease of understanding is more importantl than pin-pointing wtf the buttons were.

It’s not about people being engaged - ads on TV don’t think “well if you ain’t engaged then fuck it”

The terminology is retarded for a public broadcast.

I enjoy UltraChen’s technical insight too, namely the phrase they coined “corner carry” etc., but the terminology on still retardedly outlandish.

@Froztey, let’s shake hands.

I like Zhi mainly because I don’t like commentary so he just takes a big shit on it with occasionally something informative
