Both, especially since they need to test the cross-platform play. I am wondering if It is available to pre-order on steam yet.
I assume that was a reply to me, so I’ll reply back: I know, I agree, and that’s exactly my problem. This looks like a mobility-type of teleport more than a mixup teleport, and I really don’t like how teleports affects matchups when used as a get-in-tool or a spacing tool. =/
On another, less negative note: Ryu has his old c.MK back! Also, the visuals look a lot better now.
People complaining about the colour change, this is Street Fighter, not Injustice, thank god.
Nao that they have improved things
I want to see Ryu and Chun fighting again Lol
If can help i absolutely hate MK/KI/Nethersomething/EdBoon art direction and generally any “gritty” past gen shitty trend, thank you
It was’nt even western as some say, previous art direction got Capcom chara design, some Tekken visual feeling, some KoFXIII sense of colour and last some KI influence (wich was the part that sucked) in special effects and some clunkiness of the animation flow
The color being more lively is welcome, killing the good part of first art direction to please online bitches is not
The ironic thing is that before there was absolute nonsense about art direction “is SF4 2.0 lulz”, now as result actually it is SF4 2.0 and peoples seem happy, lol
here’s some things I figured out by going frame by frame through this video. Of course this is all subject to change at any time…
-In SF4, generally speaking, the hitstop for L/M/H attacks is 8f/10f/12f. In SF5 it looks like it will be 8f/12f/15f
-camera shakes during the hitstop for medium/heavy attacks and some specials. It doesn’t shake for light attacks.
-Chun SBK is 8f startup
-Ryu Hadouken is 13f startup and causes 14f hitstop to his opponent only, this is similar to how projectiles work in SF4.
charlie
close s.hp 9f startup
crouch hk 10f startup
EX sonic boom 13f startup, causes 8f hitstop
air flash kick has 13f of ground recovery
flash kick/genocide cutter 9f startup
“iori” takedown move 9f startup
spinning hook kick special move thing has 13f and 18f startup.
s.lp 6f startup
s.mp 7f startup
c.mp 7f startup(it doesn’t look like his old c.mp or c.hp but causes hitstop of the other medium attacks in the video)
I wrote down all the hitstop frames for each attack you see in the video but decided not to post all that. It basically came to 8f/12f/15f. There’s a 8f window where the camera shakes, attacker freezes, opponent shakes. Then another short window after that where the camera stops shaking, the attacker is still frozen, opponent still shakes. Then after this, they continue with their animations.
Keep in mind Capcom have added post-effects into all promotional videos for the SFIV series, including extended hit-stop changes to assist the dramatic zoom-in effects they over-use. Probably the best (and most poorly implemented) example of this were the reveal trailers for Ultra’s new characters. Hugo in particular.
From what we’ve seen so far, the SF5 promotional videos exhibit the same editing style, albeit a little bit slicker.
You guys do realise that the models haven’t changed at all right? It’s just the lighting and some texture work.
The game’s art sale wasn’t changed because of people complaining, this was the look they were targeting for in the first place, the original build was just incredibly early so a lot of the lighting, texture work and additional models in the stage hadn’t been finished at that point.
I’m not huge on graphics, but I’d still prefer the look of the earlier models/lighting/details over the recent version.
I kinda don’t care what the screen shots and colors look like.
I’m more interested in fast fluid animations and at the very least sf4 status hit boxes.
I’ll agree about the lighting, I liked that more in the previous version. Lights actually looked like lights.
Previous version definitely has better lighting IMO. It looks more “real” than the bright ass lighting with vivid colors.
I’m not surprised so many people prefer the new version though. It’s the same thing how the majority of people’s TVs are all calibrated wrong. They get their new LCD TVs and just turn the brightness up and think it looks great because it’s bright, when in reality, it’s completely off of what the picture is intended to look like.
I get what you’re saying, but to me, it’s not a matter of realism, but how visually striking it is. I don’t care if it looks realistic if it’s not beautiful to look at… it’s the same reason why animated cartoons have always had, and will always have, such a timeless charm to them.
Honestly, I always found realism in videogames very ugly to look at, as well as extremely boring. There’s also the fact that realistic graphics usually don’t age very well, so that might be the reason for this apporach.
I’m not saying that the graphics look real, I’m saying that the lighting looks more realistic (in the initial build). There’s a difference.
It’s like there is a huge spotlight on the characters but it doesn’t cast a shadow or anything.
I also don’t care how realistic something looks if it isn’t good to look at. But to me, the original lighting does look better to me.
It’s all just a matter of opinion though. But the majority of people are used to over saturation on their TV sets in general, so I can see why they would go with a look like the second one.
TBH, the only good thing about the initial build(from the PSX event trailer) was the lightning and even that was removed from the build we saw at the Capcom Cup event, making the game look reeeeeally dull and washed out IMO
I’d rather have this new art style alot more, it looks colorful and really beautiful to look at , plus it really makes the characters stand out :3
Just my 2 cents :3

Dude, unless you are blind, you should be able to see it is a large graphical downgrade. You want it more cartoony, fine, doesn’t excuse making it much less detailed.

killing the good part of first art direction to please online bitches is not
Online bitches ruin everything. According to them ggpo sucks, less detailed is better, more clones is better, everything is too strong, etc etc. Damn capcom just don’t listen to them, you blindly follow the blind…well we all know how that turns out.
Okami has no detail and is gorgeous. I can show you a highly detailed scrotum, doesn’t make it nice to look at.
Plz don’t compare bland play doh figurines to the beauty of okami plz. No need to insult a game that actually does look good.
My point is that less detailed = less good is not a valid argument.
New look SF5 clearly looks visually more appealing at the very least in a practical sense. The two characters, the most important part of the game, stand out much better against the backdrop. It’s “easier” to look at and play and therefore an overall more pleasant experience.
My point is that you don’t have to sacrifice a ton of detail to make a change in art direction. Sure making it stand out more is good, however no need to convert from PS4 level graphics to PS3.
