Personally I prefer the new look. Much more crisp, sylized, colorful and with a better contrast of colour rather than the washed out look from the original build.

Graphical touches were probably them reacting to feedback that the game didn’t look new.

They definitely have more “pop” to them, though I’d like it more if it was brighter.

I think that it was more to due with the “pop” factor than the “newness” factor. Making sure your characters stand out from background images is game design 101 and a lot of people were also complaining the characters blended into the background a lot during the first reveal of gameplay.

Though you can tell they rounded out Chun Li’s face, shrunk her nose, and made her lips a bit more pouty to try and make her more “girly” I think.

Agreed… I wonder if this could just be the lighting effects of the stage. The first version does look more detailed though. Kinda like what @d3v mentioned about wanting it brighter, but I thought it was just the stage being darker and that affecting the shading/coloring/etc. Still looks great, but the first version does look better, just from those 2 screenshots.

Those screen shots weren’t even taken at the exact same possible moment, hard to tell the difference with them being so inaccurate from each other. “OMG this one was so much better than this one!” Even the part of the stage behind her is different from one another. Oh, brother.

I don’t understand where people are getting “they sped the game up” from. there’s nothing in the video that shows the game playing any faster as far as I can see.

Based on what we saw, there’s nothing we can gleam about any general system changes since we didn’t see an actual match.

All we can discuss are Charlie’s moves and any changes to Ryu and Chun.

yea exactly. no new gameplay footage so I think people are engaging in wishful thinking.

only thing I can see that would make the game look faster is it kept zooming in on every hit, gives the appearance that more is going on/it’s happening faster than what’s really there. they use that trick in kpop videos sometimes. lame dance moves suddenly look cool and fast when your camera keeps flying all over the place.

My impression is

-needed stages have a more “monocromatic” flat look to make characters easier to read

First point is sad but i agree, it was needed… as much previous stage looked better, i’ve no problem admit for gameplay it was probably too chaotic

Second if true is kinda a disgrace: her face was way more alive, the style with that touch of realism was more interessing and distict from SF4, colors where more natural and not disturbing, materials waaay more effective(just watch the dress, ridicolous downgrade), the skin was very cool and so on… basically the ONLY thing better then before is that they killed these T1000 style spikes

All these blind dbags screaming about how omg it look like sf4… and as result now it actually CLOSER to sf4 than before, lol.
Worse, it look kinda MvC3 style

The irony is that i’ve not the “complain no matter what” mentality
When few weeks ago hordes of blind bitches were here spreading bullshit and false stuff like “slighty altered models lol” or whatever, i was here wasting time exposing theyr shit with actual facts
I was’nt 100% sold on new art direction, but there was some undeniable quality/strong vision and was annoying see people with likely zero design knowledge throw shit at it and cry for changes

Again, i understand money dictate everything, but they literally butchered part of theyr work to please ignorant peoples

Don’t get me wrong game still look cool, and will likely get better
But is ever sad see quality get crippled by ignorance, they was doing an awesome work and i was really curious to see how other characters look with that art direction

ps: i repeat, i’ve no problem admit that punch in the balls the aesthetic killing the stage blacks and some cromatic variety in favour of shades of x dominant color is a game design choice legit and clear (it was the same for SF3/SF4)
I understand that new contrast of characters kinda push in that direction too, but there was different ways to obtain it if the work on stages was’nt enough

So I just noticed; look at the charlie reveal trailer and forward to 0:58
He does a near identical version of abel’s soulless(or breathless, I forget which name corresponds to which). I think that might be hinting at his connection with abel, as he makes subtle references to knowing charlie in his rival battle with guile.

Charlie’s life was likely saved in same labs where Abel was prisoner, tha’s why his new body parts seem made of Seth-like material

Kinda made sense since both Charlie and Seth want Dictator destruction, so it was a “enemy of my enemy is my friend” situation

Seth to use him as weapon
Charlie to use(even if probably he did’nt chose it) theyr technology to recover his ability to fight after he got half body destroyed

Maybe as soon he was 100% recovered (or anyway enough to move) he and Abel escaped from the labs, kinda make sense

Teleports and booms. Booo, I’m getting flashbacks to Seth, except Charlie looks like he’s still got good buttons, is probably still a charge character and doesn’t have all of his moves ripped off from other characters…

The first version is a million times better.

  1. The face looks more natural, and the eyes don’t have a hollow souless look to them
  2. There is actually some muscle definition (around the elbow area noticeably) on the arms, rather than looking like play doh
  3. The spikes aren’t simple cones, but curve inward to a point. The lighting reflecting on it is also infinitely better, and they look much more realistic.
  4. The hands you can see the actual creases and the finger joints, fingernails much more detailed.

It is a massive graphical downgrade.

Having a teleport doesn’t necessarely mean he’s a mixup character though. Like wesker in MvC3, his teleport is more of a mobility tool than a mixup tool, and especially now that there are no assists to cover him, his teleports are gonna be fairly easy to react to. Sure he can do a boom and follow it up, but that probably only works in certain wakeup situations, not in neutral. It’s like saying Dhalsim is a mixup character just because he has teleport mixups.

The graphics are much better now imo, I like the cartoonish look and the more vivid colors. The way it was before gave me the impression that it was trying to be both more realistic with the darker tone, yet cartoonish at the same time, failing at both. Now it has a more distinct style, and it’s much more polished overall, as characters don’t look like cray statues anymore. Also Charlie’s animations didn’t give me the same “ugh” feel as Ryu’s.

Am I the only one thinking that Ryu’s Hadoken feels much more impactful nao ? compared to the original trailers ?

Is the pre-order beta only going to be for PS4? Or PC too?
