I really like to see Goutetsu just because I want to know what he is like… but you’re right, we’re moving forward in time and even Gouken alone was hard to justify, releasing Goutetsu now would basically say: Screw the story!
And as far as I know Capcom did say they want to deliver a better story than sf4 this time.
Just like Gouken is the typical generic shoto right…?
Anyway, I thought this 16 characters thing was confirmed to be a misinterpretation from Bogards video?
Im all for a smaller vanilla cast though, with Ryu and Ken, the cast is already 1/8th shoto (if we stick with 16 characters), that is more than enough, considering there could also be Charlie AND Guile, which would make sense, storywise
Im hopings its 20 characters not counting the boss.
I really want the Boss of SFV to be original and good. Not like that crap Seth was, completely fucking called it in on his design. Sure he has Gills body type but him having a variation of everyone’s moves was just plain lazy.
100% agree. Most people forget that the Shoto story is the center core of the SF universe. It’s always been about Ryu and Ken’s journey. I can’t imagine too many people giving a F*about Blanka/E.Honda/Dhalsim/ etc. stories–they are ancillary.
I can understand that people don’t want a bunch of “clones” populating a game, but if Capcom wanted they could make Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Gouken, and Goutetsu very visually distinct with different move sets. How badass would an old Goutetsu with a combination of Ken’s flaming shoryuken, Gouken’s denjin electricity, Akuma’s purple hadouken. Wouldn’t that be way cooler than a waste of a slot with El Fuerte/Rufus/Seth?
I think your working under the assumption that “all these things are cool, so they would be even cooler if they were put together.” This isn’t always the case.
That’s true. This is just my personal wishes. But I would rather delve more into the SF history rather than create crappy characters like Rufus and El Fuerte.
I think the real issue is that if capcom gets lazy and doesn’t differentiate Goutetsu from Gouken or Akuma, then you have shoto clones. I don’t want that either.
But I sure as hell don’t want throwaway, goofy characters that add nothing to the story line.
Yeah, not only that, but it just feels nice to charge moves. I enjoy the mechanic. Stuff like using standing roundhouse and bazooka knee with guile to advance is just cool.
I hope Charlie gets his long sliding dash from Alpha 3, it was so badass throwing out a light sonic boom and doing that dash behind it to get into you opponent’s footsie range, then using some standing roundhouses to bully them and chip away their guard. Man, charge characters can be so unique and rewarding.
I doubt they will get rid of charge moves/ characters… seriously, there have always been charge and motion characters, this wont change.
We cant even say for sure that chun li isnt charge anymore. I’m quite sure Chunlis SBK is still down-up and get fireball MAY be still a charge… there is no clear proof of anything else.
Reduced charge times is also a very good possibility, I mean, in the last few patches capcom often reduced charge times on those characters, probably to make them better in offense.
I think charging is a pretty brilliant mechanic. It’s a way of enforcing a cooldown time without any interface, and without limiting your other options.
Charge character ok. QCF character, ok.
But now, what about grappler/360 characters ? Do you have some idea on wich characters could be in this game ?
Maybe my Zangief will be here.
A grappling charge character! I can only really remember birdie having charge moves and a 360 grab, and I don’t think that type of playstyle was incorporated at all in the SFIII or IV series. The best I can think of is Q. I still think zangief should be in the game. He has all the tools a grappler needs, to me not having him would almost be like not having Ryu, and is just generally a likeable character. For once though, I would like him to be designed in a more ‘‘bad-ass’’ way instead of his goofy SFIV version.
I’m also hoping that that alleged leaked character(just name)Laura, from Brazil, is some kind of female MMA fighter/grappler.
Agreed and that’s the key, as long as Goutetsu’s move set is different than Akuma Gouken Ryu and Ken it definitely can be done.
Not to mention other martial art disciplines Goutetsu may have mastered we don’t know about, we as fans just know of Ansatsuken from the storyline and this is where Capcom can get creative concerning his move set and when it comes to super/revenge combos etc…imo.
I think SfV should be released with 2 disc. One with just the game and the other a short movie. That way the game can be somewhat separated from the story. That way everyone win great game/great story. Just my 2cents
