You think this game will be payable next week?
How is this game going to grab the casual audience I wonder? Ryu vs Chun Li? Yes they are essential to any SF, but why would a casual fan care? The game looks just like SF4, and even with some dramatic zooms and flashy effects it isn’t going to scream to the casual fan…yes let me put down 60 bucks to play SF4 ver. 2! There has to be a hook.
Despite new things like Focus attacks and Ultras (absolutely brilliant additions…j/k) the draw for casual fans was the first SF in a very long time, nostalgia of SF2 who everyone has played or heard of, and cel shaded 3d graphics. While it definitely is not, it looked and appeared to be SF2 for a modern audience. This is why it sold so well. Again I’m not taking about FGC, hardcore players, they are a miniscule minority in game sales…I’m talking of your everyday average Joes who don’t play games seriously and just want to have a good time.
It will be at Capcom Cup.
Q4T!
SFV’s hook for casual fans isn’t going to be a new fighting engine or even flashy moves, Capcom has to go out of its comfort zone because this game won’t sell big numbers if it’s just SF4 HD. The casual fan cannot discern the differences in frame data nor does he or she want to. The following I think will really help with the casuals.
1- Complex story driven single player experience.
2- The best netcode for online play that money can buy.
3- The most sophisticated training mode ever conceived for a SF. Bonus points if they merge this with the first point like MK so that it doesn’t feel like the player is doing a chore and is entertained while training.
4- And as I said earlier make the old look and feel new. MK has mastered this art and it works brilliantly. NRS aren’t afraid to reinvent and reimagine their characters, take risks with their appearance, movesets, combos, etc. It keeps things fresh while still being comfortably familiar.
I don’t know how I feel about the art direction. It looks better than sf4 but still really strange.
If this game is set after sf3, then Urien should replace Gill as the final boss (if that’s cannon) and Ken won’t be fighting anymore (spending time with his wife and kid now). I’d like to see Ryu and Akuma be the only shoto characters in the game, leaving a really unique and different archetype of characters. (Urien, Oro, Guile, Karin, Birdie, Ryu, Chun, Akuma, and Juri are all characters I’d like to see).
I know people say sf5 should have a strong story mode experience for the casuals, but I feel like a strong online experience (done right) would be a stronger draw in for casuals.
I think capcom should try to merge the casual and competitive audience together like with esports games. Have the main menu have a section dedicated to tournament streams, results, etc. Have an actually good tutorial system that also gives online resources for the player to have a moderate understanding of the fundamental aspect of fighting games. A really good ggpo implementation with a good lobby system (preferably with an all-play feature). With all the right decisions behind a really amazing online experience on sf5, I can see the population of the fgc blow up to esport level popularity. Compared to esport games, fighting game are simple enough (mechanically) for a non fighting game player to watch and appreciate, while also rewarding them forever, fundamentally, for playing.
After seeing the gameplay trailer, I was impressed!
Anyway, I really hope this game takes place after SF3. That way the cast will mainly consist of SF3 characters plus some all-new ones, at least that’s what I wish for.
I expect some form of SFV on the Nesica platform in JP arcades eventually.
I hope Abel makes it in, he’d look bad ass
I really like Abel but I don’t think he will make it. This game looks more in the SFxTK style and his combo potential was absolutely pathetique in that game, he just won’t adapt -____-
First off, I didn’t “Pick” them I merely listed all of the characters that haven’t been in USF4 (as I stated).
Second off, of that list there are characters pretty regularly requested; Urien, Q, Alex, R. Mika. Charlie, and Karin are all very commonly reuqested characters to return.

good they are putting work on their models. Can’t wait to see Juri Han.
Nobody fucking likes those characters. Nobody wants to see Sean, or Twelve, or Joe and Mike.
Joe and Mike, great idea, I would love them to finally return!
Sony is helping fund their development. That’s why we are seeing SF5 now instead of 2018 or whatever and also why USF4 is coming to PS4.
So the characters still have that deformed style?
Im not a fan of Chun Lis hands being bigger than her head. Those proportions give off a masculine vibe.
Are you just dumb or don’t realize that’s a zoomed in pic?
You guys think 2015 is possible as ac release date? I’m thinking early 2016
null
I’ll get on the Sean and twelve bw
I don’t think late 2015 is much of a stretch considering they probably want to sell as many copies as they can, and what better time to do it during the holiday season when PS4 will probably have a price drop and possible SF5 bundle? Plus, most Capcom fighters tend to come out about a year after being announced (except for SFxT).
