I like this “element install” they have going. It could help make old characters feel fresh, as well as add some cool visual effects. For example, this might be the elements of the world warriors:
Ryu: Electricity
Chun: Water
Ken: Fire
Guile: Wind
Zangief: Ice
E.Honda: Earth
Dhalsim: Fire (Or something like “spirit” since he’s already so focused on fire)
Blanka: Electricity
But they could also use some more SF-centric “elements”, like:
M.Bison: Psycho Power
Rose: Soul Power
Akuma: Satsui no Hado
Gouken: Nothingness
So exciting that we got a gameplay trailer so soon.
Not so sure how I feel about the ground bounce. I hate those long loop style combos that go on forever. I would be okay if it’s for one extra hit, but not combos where you just keep bouncing your opponent up down, left and right for half a minute.
Everything already looks very smooth. I liked how the stage interacted with them.
Chun looked very swift. Here’s hoping she’s a motion character again.
Sound could work, but he’s always been about high-speed slashing winds to me. Zangief is from sibiria, that’s enough to land him the ice element (I also feel it could be an interesting element for a grappler). But it could also be fire or maybe even iron/steel.
You know this “elements” talk had little to none basis, right? It’s just a power-up state, no one’s talking about Legend of Korra here, LOL. They will just give everyone an energy color glow and that’s it.
It’s based on character traits. Ryu does have the denjin that’s electric, and Chun uses kung fu, which uses water likenesses in its philosophies a lot from what I understand. And it’s not unlikely that elemental effects will have traits related to their element, like:
Electricity: More stun.
Fire: More damage.
Water: Better combo ability.
Ice: Slow down the opponent.
etc.
And if you mean the element concept itself, it’s pretty clear from the trailer that Both Ryu and chun have electricity and water-based buffs, respectively. They’re also pretty farfetched for those characters, so I doubt they just did it on those two for the heck of it.
You ain’t no one of the game designers, so you better don’t entitle to your idea of what the game will be. And as for what it looks like, Ryu is using the SnH energy to buff up, not electricity.
“I better not” eh? I’ll speculate as much as I want, and you’re the one that’s entitled if you think you have any right to tell me not to.
Denjin is not a SnH move, so no. Close your account, you don’t know anything, you have no right to say anything coz you don’t know for sure etc.
It might just be a taunt or an idle animation thing. We’ll probably get an answer to that one at capcom cup though. As for new tools, it seems to me that his SRK has some shin SRK elements to it now.
Ryu’s attack (including the Denjin) are accompanied by black ink strokes (“dark” Hadou), the same reason Chun-Li’s kicks are imbued with a watery effect. Just look at his Tatsu.
I would have like something more visually ambitious. I’ve always wanted Street Fighter to push toward looking more like the character art we seen in Capcom Design Works, and the various production art books. Less emphasis on realistic lighting and such, and more emphasis on that artist’s world of illustration.
That has always been the destination for me visually.
I realize game play is important, but I’m a bit like Vega in that I’m only interested in beautiful things. :#
What I’m digging about the Guilty Gear Xrd visuals is that Arc System Works tricked me with the debut trailer of that game. I was never a big fan of Guilty Gear, and when the original trailer showed the two characters sitting there jawing I started fast forwarding because who cares about overblown idiotic fighting game stories?
Then the camera panned around the characters like some The Matrix sh*t you did not see before it hit in 1999, and I spilled my drink. I didn’t realize these were 3D models. I thought it was more of the same Arc System’s sprites on 3D backgrounds stuff.
That’s where I want Capcom to go visually. Show me a game that looks like a high def / next gen version of a Street Fighter Alpha / Street Fighter 3, but then do something crazy and say - This isn’t what you expected!
Ah well.
I’m sure a lot of folks will have fun with this.
I just hope when it comes time for Capcom to hire somebody to reboot Darkstalkers, they throw a bunch of money at Arc System Works and let them do it right. B)
