I hope the soundtrack isnt total freakin garbage this time.
I’m excited to see an official announcement for this. I was underwhelmed by the visuals I saw, but I’m not willing to judge harshly at this point considering this game is probably a ways off as far as an official release. I’m excited about a Street Fighter game with new mechanics, with new strategies and an overall re-examining of where to take the Street Fighter model. But I’ve got to say, I’m really cynical about Capcom’s being capable of implementing some type of new universal mechanic that isn’t just a rehash of something that’s been done before in another fighting game. Even so, it’s cool that a new game is in the pipeline, and hopefully we’ll see a game that can appeal to wider audience but also not alienate those that prefer the existing fighting game model of: “suck, until you don’t”.
I think this game more than 18 months off. We can’t judge the graphics just yet, but to be honest what we saw is more than decent with a lot of potential. They are perfecting the unique style they introduced with SF4 now that they have the technological capacity to do that. The characters look less cartoony/exaggerated and the animations will be even more fluid than SF4. Chill guys.
So long as whatever mechanic they drum up doesn’t allow players to CTRL+Z a bad move, would alone put the game in a better light for me.
I want to see players soar, with plenty of time to criticize the decision and the consequence that is to follow. Not watch them undo it for some meter and maybe get a light bop.
From the brief glimpse the tech doesn’t look like anything special, like I mentioned in the other thread its giving my flash backs of Street Fighter EX 3D on the PS1. Saying that I don’t really care if it’s got the gameplay. Also I think the animations and colours in SF4 are pretty spot on. It could grow on me though.
The storyline is the thing I’m most intrigued about. I wanna see what Gill and the returning SF2 (if any) World Warriors did after SF3
Hopefully this game is more gritty in tone like SF3 as well, which seems to be the case atm.
Game play is FAR more important than the graphics but it’d be nice to have a new art style. I’m honestly kind of surprised they didn’t go for a cel shaded style. Not even like a faux-2D art cel shaded style but they could go with a cel shaded style of their own. Heck if they wanted to evolve the Sumi-e ink stuff they could have gone with an Okami kind of style in terms of colors and edges though not that cartoony in the proportions.
One thing is for SURE though, they have to adjust the lighting effects. The screen is too dark and Ryu’s fireball obscures too much of the screen at once. Reduce the flashiness of the fireball a bit and add some stronger rim lighting to the characters.
Everybody keeps saying SF5 should copy Xrd, but I think that’d only piss people off more, Capcom needs to do its own thing, not copy
Xrd IS awesome, but Capcom need to innovate and keep its own niche. This is still the beta/alpha stage, so maybe they’ll supe things up later
Fixed for ya.
As I said, they don’t need to go with the faux 2D sprite style of Xrd, but cel shading in their own style would work.
Just an FYI, keep an eye on the playstation event tomorrow in vegas. Dunno what stream it will be on. I think the conference is from 10am-12noon PST. SF5 teaser was supposed to debut there.
My guess is that it’ll go exactly as scripted but they’ll add something like “As you may have seen a few days ago” to the start of the reveal. I doubt they’ll change what they are showing or planning on revealing about the development and judging by how little they showed I doubt there will be much if ANY actual information.
Still worth checking out for sure JUST IN CASE! Plus the enjoyment of the awkward and uncomfortableness of the presentation due to the leak.
Seeing Chun’s air target combo into that knockdown kick (not sure if SBK), I think this is going to be a more combo-oriented game like Alpha/SF3. This is further supported by the “rumor” that Capcom was testing concepts for a new game in Omega mode, where most characters get some kind of straightforward combo option. Thoughts/opinions?
Combos are fine as long as there is some kind of skill sets involved. I certainly hope they’ve learnt a lesson with SFXT as far as " leveling the field" goes. Even SF4 is borderline.
The need to find a way of making each style viable, but in an attacking sense.
I’d hope so. Short, quick combos/juggles and a more rushdown-oriented pacing is what I would prefer for this game. But we’ll see. I’m really curious about what’s to come and what’s up with that lightning-effect Ryu had too.
It’s a denjin hadouken. It fits in with the idea that this game takes place after 3 (along with the twins’ stage)
I know this isn’t exactly the same, but it has lightning and it’s chargeable like the one in the trailer.
Move to about 2:00.

As long as they ditch focus attacks and don’t completely kill fireball zoning, I’m interested. I’m not a big fan of parries, but as long as fireballs cannot be parried I think I’ll manage.
Seriously though, screw focus attacks =[
I have 0.0% hype for this. already uninstalled ultra from my pc. good riddance.
but if they remove focus attacks they gots to do away with god damnable ultras. no more comeback mechanics pl-leaz!
matter of fact…do away with the entire SF4 engine altogether.
bring the focus back to footsie and spacing and anti-airing of SF2. stop the 72 hit combo nonsense, the ultra and FA nonsense.

I agree, It shouldn’t give you a short. if you press down and cr.LK+cr.LP you should get a throw attempt. Fuck that cr.LP/cr.LK nonsense from throws, the game shouldn’t be playing for you.
another thing I cant stand. 2 button throws. another thing that needs to go.
All the peeps under the age of 30 who don’t know the difference between a good fighter and a bad fighting game discovered the thread at around page 3, came in, and ruined it.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, I’m outi.
p.s.
no fuckin parries.
stop ruining SF motherfuckers. And no. Honda can NOT get a headbutt that bypasses fireballs. sons a b…

The more people like you say there shouldn’t be any parries, the more reasons I see to have them in.
