Street Fighter V Lounge "We on South Central crack addict status"

For some reason I don’t think there is even the slightest chance of this game not releasing in arcades, but to each his/her own.

If the game was good enough, the Japanese would play it. Most of the higher level players played Super when it was console exclusive.

I was watching this in depth Ryu breakdown from Vesper Arcade. Video was about an hour.

Watching the video has me less worried about the game speed. Chun looked just as fast as she is in Sf4 to me.

I think Ryu is just a bunch slower, and not the game as a whole. I think it’s just a character design change. Ryu looks more heavily focused around fireballs and huge damage than mid range control. More of the Vanilla Sagat archetype than the all rounder character we’re expecting.

Normals look a lot slower to me, and Chun looks slower to me BUT the comparative difference between Ryu and Chun look similar to SF4. Maybe that’s just me though, eyes can trick you.

I dunno, as Mike says they played a lot of SSF4 before AE and even after of AE if competing US/Euro. Plus in my limited understanding, Arcades are having a bit harder time in japan right now than in 2007-2010. I hope they have a resurgence since it’s such a strong part of their culture in the last 30 years even outside of competitive gaming.

Another part of it is the big money being tied up in US tournaments. Capcom isn’t going to be giving 20k to sf4 with sf5 out there. The big players will follow the money.

The only way i could see them not switching is if the game is an absolute turd.

To my point about Ryu, I think his normals are intentionally slower. But we will know more as the different archtypes surface. But from everything that video showed, Ryu is going in a different direction. To the point that I could see Sagat not making it in if the game has a smaller cast.

Has Capcom or anyone announced there been no arcade release. Just because they said it’s only on PS4 and PC, doesn’t confirm no arcade release. Look at Xrd, only on PS3 and PS4, but it has an arcade release 10 months before console release. Yeah, you could say different game, different story, but I digress. It would be awesome if Capcom releases the beta in Japan, the beta will be a playable build that you can only play in the arcades.

I haven’t even seen that it’s on PC, myself.

Huh? PC release for SF5 was confirmed day 1 announcement. Unless you’re talking about Xrd which he doesn’t claim has a PC release, he said PS3 / PS4 and had arcade before that. I’m confused.

Good. That’s exactly how I want you.

I fully expect that SF5 will eventually see an arcade release. Possibly after the home console version has been out for a bit and it’s time for the first revision. (aka SF5 arcade edition)

Based on the potential new costume for Bison at the end of the Charlie teaser, I kinda hope that some returning characters get new move-sets in game. Maybe have some characters retaining a few core attacks but getting new ones that show their style of fighting is evolving over time. (Possibly using something like the MKX style system to allow the original move-set to be used if people end up disliking any new changes)

SF4 is still alive and kicking, and probably will be when SF5 is released. This should be reason enough for SF5’s characters to feel and play differently, especially the returning characters.

Ever since SF3, Capcom has taken little to no risk with SF. I really want them to get out of their comfort zone this time and try something different. Wiping the slate clean of old characters isn’t risky, it’s foolish so I hope they don’t go there again. Instead just change it up with the returning characters, many of whom have had the same normals and movesets for decades.

So I’m thinking they aren’t going to have jab jab hit confirms all over the place.

Just looking at Ryu’s heavy punch combo starter thing, and how Chun’s close medium works, as well as how their jabs and shorts chain

Sadly it looks like Ryu is sticking with most of the same normals and only seems to have the same set of special moves (Tatsu, air tatsu, fireball, DP) that he had in SF2/Alpha/SF4 he doesn’t seem to even getting back is joudan kick from SF3/SFxT/VS games. I mean the only thing that I can really think of that stood out to me of his moves being different (beyond the powerup mode) is his farHP being like a Guile style straight punch which is pretty cool.

In regards to wiping the slate clean of old chars, I agree. However I think there is room for a new main character instead of Ryu and making Ryu a side character again like SF3. He can be in it, but don’t make him the poster boy for the entire thing. Of course there is ZERO chance of them ever like returning OTHER characters but NOT including Ryu. Like making an SF game with Ken but no Ryu or even like Sakura/Karin being the two main characters and returning some others but not Ryu.

I wonder how an SF spin off fighting game starring only the high school girls (and a few new faces) would do. Sakura, Elena, Makoto, Karin, Ibuki as the only returning characters. Sort of like that SNK Gals Fighter with Miss X aka Iori in drag (they should have put that in KOF 13 instead of EX Iori :P)

I think that’s a dumb idea. I think Makoto and Ibuki could be the “Ken and Ryu” of a game but eh.

@Eternal I doubt they would take risks with Ryu and that’s kinda expected. As the poster boy he is the character least likely to deviate from his standard, but that is the price he pays for being THE Street Fighter. He’s like Jesus that way, suffering in monotony so that hopefully other returning characters can take risks and change it up. Chun Li and Charlie are already having fun it seems, and Bison is wearing a Nazi skirt. Praise Ryu!

I’m also all for new characters coming in and becoming the focus. I think SF4 was a good opportunity to focus on Abel, but we kinda got Juri instead so I’m cool with that too.

Also, a game of high school girls. Really? No. Just no. Unless…

Principal Bison!

Well I was thinking just of spin-off ideas, plus that concept would likely sell in japan was my other idea. shrug didn’t say it was a great idea :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, Cody is the street fighter nitpick just to be a douche

Ryu is the street fighter icon though for sure and that is why they’ll never change him. Which is a shame because as I’ve brought up before: Terry Bogard’s Garou outfit. Hell, Kyo may be the main char in KOF series but Terry is way more of an icon for SNK period and generally (from my understanding) the “face” of KOF and any SNK fighter in that universe.

It just makes me a lil sad that Capcom isn’t willing to try and evolve their chars even a LITTLE anymore. Feels like they took more risks in Alpha and SF3 in changing his looks than in SF4 and SF5. SF3 certainly took most risks in changing his moves. You can’t adjust Ryu’s moves without changing who he is. Ryu isn’t Guile where having only 2 specials is like part of his identity as a FG character.

Makoto / Ibuki would be more fun, I think they got a fun relationship (plus I love makoto :P) but I think Sakura / Karin is more likely. Cody / Guy is probably the most likely given that their rivalry/relationship is kind of the closest to Ryu/Ken and the most well known of the franchise. I wouldn’t mind seeing Sakura/Sean given the whole Ryu/Ken concept behind it plus the fun dichotomy of a female lead character which hasn’t really been the case in any japanese FG that wasn’t like an all girl cast (AFAIK). Sakura replacing Ryu in an SF game set like in the future of the franchise’s timeline would be cool, finally see her evolve as a character and grow her move set as well.

Edit: Full gender swap Street Fighter game? I’d buy that in a heartbeat. Rule 63 Blanka is awesome, plus who doesn’t wanna see a gal in that Zangief outfit? Of course I know less people would be happy to see male Elena in the same outfit.

Poison just looks the exact same to keep people guessing :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Regarding the female lead, if I didn’t know any better I would say Chun Li has usurped Ken’s position. Capcom pulled a Scorpion/Sub Zero on their Liu Kang, or a Kung Lao on their Liu Kang, either way Ken isn’t leading as much. To be honest, I’m glad they did this, Chun Li is probably the most recognizable Street Fighter besides Ryu and with good reason, she is the first lady of fighting after all.

For character outfits, so long as the character palette sticks close to the original costume, you can pretty much change the look of the character as much as you want. Bison is red/dark blue (green if u include the cape), with metallic platings. Chun Li is Blue and gold. Ken is Red, Akuma is purple/gray and Ryu is white and red. Cammy and Chun Li successfully changed their appearance in SF Alpha without compromising their character because they stuck to the color palette mostly. They’re doing the same now with Charlie by switching up colors but keeping the palette to reflect his darker persona now, I think they could’ve done something more original with that.

I could say that these issues can be resolved with DLC costumes but they won’t since Capcom’s alt costumes are hideously out of character most of the time. Again I bring them up, but the MK series has this nailed completely (fan service is their forte really).

I’d say about 20% of the DLC costumes aren’t out of character, some of the ones that are IN character still have niggling flaws though. I hate Cody’s tribal tats and stupid gun pendent and 1 gloved hand on his FF reimagined outfit.

Characters palettes are certainly are rarely thought of as part of the character. They did a good job like with Alpha chun’s body suit which kept her old color scheme. Now that you mention it, I went back and looked and they only changed 1 color of Terry’s palette by removing Red and emphasizing the brown from his belt when doing his Garou Costume which is kind of smart. It also retains the important but simple underlying parts of the costume of a white shirt and blue jeans and fingerless gloves.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh’ That’s an awesome picture. O_O
Too bad i hate Bison.

I got it… a new idea… here me out… Instead of just using the over used cliche of highschool students be amazing and having all of these crazy things happen to them like in animes… why not… use college girls? boom.

Terry really did look unrecognizable in some concept arts though. Ryu would be just as unrecognizable without the bandana and Bison without the hat.

The Street Fighter II V series had some decent re-imaginings of characters. They changed up Bison’s uniform for example but stuck to his color palette. Chun Li lost her buns which was pretty dramatic but they kept her outfit nearly untouched, which helped identify her. But look at her here:

Without the bun, or the outfit/color palette, you can barely tell who she is based on her appearance solely.

But here

You can still identify her because of her buns and only because of her buns (ignore the fact that Vega is there). This is why I felt Terry was hard to recognize, because that hat is a signature item of his, if you remove it, you must pretty much leave everything else unchanged.

Look at Ryu here:

Even though they left his appearance untouched, by just removing the bandana, his face becomes unrecognizable, he could be any anime character just based on that face. The way we identify that he is Ryu in the photo is by having Ken next to him, more so than his generic white gi.

Just thinking of the character voices in that hypothetical pile of shit makes me wince.

Puff-puff, give, Eternal.

Puff-puff, give.
