Hey, first time posting so sorry if I’ve posted in the wrong place or something.
I’ve been playing SFV for just over 200 hours now, and still to this day I am having trouble with general execution.
I’m not amazing at the game, but I wouldn’t call myself bad or a beginner, I have a pretty good understanding of fighting game fundamentals, neutral, mixups etc. Execution has always been an issue for me, but in SFV it seems ridiculous, especially DP motions. In other games like Guilty Gear my execution isn’t amazing, but passable, and in SFV that is the case for 80% of things. Its only when you throw the DP motion into the mix where I mess up.
I could probably do a DP 100x in a row just raw, but in a combo, I’ll it it about 50% of the time despite me being sure I did the exact same thing I did when I was doing it raw. Most of the time it’ll either come out as a fireball or a crouching normal. I’m using pad, namely the Hori Fighting Commander, so it’s not that I’m using a bad pad.
Any advice will help, I’m not sure what else can be done other than practicing more than I already am, but I thought I’d post in case there’s some special trick I’m missing or something.
Thanks
Picked up sfv a few weeks ago and in general, fighting games since 3sOE, so I am a bit rusty and when I was into the scene, my skill and effort was just a hair up from casual. I also had this issue. Doing dp by its own, I can do them everytime, but when I add it into a combo, I would end up doing what you said.
In training mode, break it down into parts. For example cr. lk, cr. lp, qcb lk XX dp hp. I would drill that in 2 parts, first cr. lk, cr lp. Doing that to get a feel for the timing. Then after a while, start doing the qcb lk XX dp hp. Then I’d add in cr. lp to qcb lk, or finish the combo. And then, I’d try the entire combo. If you end up messing something up, just go back to drilling that specific area until you can do it effortless. After a couple days of practicing by breaking it down, for me, I was able to start doing the combo but it will be more time until I am able to do the combo like a single dp. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the reply, I’ll be sure to try that out. My current approach has just been do the whole thing over and over, mostly using Sakura’s VTrigger 2 combo, but breaking it down would seem a lot easier. Thanks again!
