Street Fighter V Balance/Match Up Discussion - SHOW ME YOUR MATCH UPS

No match-up feels terrible in this game and that’s a good thing.

Ryu is on his 3s level, at best. The parry is too big of a risk for it to be a go to tool. But of course, if anyone is capable of making him look top tier, it is Daigo.

What hapenned to Nash ? I rarely see him or streams or recent tourneys which took place…

LowTierFraud started using him, so people dropped him faster than a hot turd after a Taco Bell binge.

The king of risk taking will take those risks. Best believe. He’s been HP shoryuing his way out of all kinds of shit since ST. Something with less obvious recovery than an HP shoryu he will definitely take advantage of.

Oh man I was waiting for this, it has begun, king ragequitter himself

Just remember that Dhalsim can be thrown out of the startup of his teleport.

Nah, I don’t see how he’d be bad in this game with no parry. If he keeps far MK, he has something safe to poke with, on sim fireballs he can slash elbow in on reaction and probably swat limbs w/ st.mp, multiple AA options, and with ex meter he can EX Stomp/EX slash elbow a ton of stuff on reaction. On sim teleport I imagine you could st.mp x ex air stampede too

I really don’t see him being a bad character barring they take out certain things or leave him unable to counter poke for some reason. Against the other grapplers if he keeps his huge jump-in damage they’ll think twice about command grabbing against him, so idk.

Well they already confirmed that Alex won’t be exactly like old Alex so it’s really completely up in the air. He could be only about as different as SFIV to SFV Chun or he could be as different as SFIV to SFV Bison/Claw.

I do agree that not being a big parry bait of a character should improve his odds. Which means Ryu and Gief should be interesting for him to fight since they do both have something similar to a parry/counter. Gief has to risk health in order to do it, but at least it builds him solid V Gauge.

I can see Alex being viable just off keeping all his 3s normals/flash chop and movement by itself, so I feel pretty good about Alex’s odds in this game.

Laura says hello

I’m not that great but I think Vega is upper-mid. He has huge damage potential off his heavies and good to above average damage off his mediums but most of that are off of short normals or exclusive to claw off. He also becomes a walking nuclear bomb when fully stocked. That said, his overhead and general can-opener tools aren’t that great. F.mk isn’t cancelable into anything and doesn’t do enough damage to be a respectable threat, Grand Izuna seems to be the worst command grab anyone has, and Flying Barcelona still seems to be just a shenanigans tool once again and this is only made worse now that SFV has really good anti-airs on pretty much the entire cast.

Not top five but his damage potential cannot be ignored especially with a good footsie game behind it.

Grand Izuna’s probably better than Necalli’s non-EX command grabs. The damage isn’t stellar but it’s faster and leaves you at more advantage. His overhead is more about cashing out on white life as well, plus you can hop lows I think.

One of Vega’s big advantages is that his V Trigger is a one shot, which means he has a very good chance of getting it twice in a round. This leads to a lot of damage, especially off his very plus hit confirmable low, plus it solves his lack of damage in Claw stance issue (normally you need to either start with a slower heavy or have them standing + spend bar).

I agree with this for the most part. You just have to realize that a character with a dominating poke/mid range game having a command grab AT ALL is a big deal. It means that if he is next to you without claw on you won’t be able to simply tech to get out of a grab. Which makes people more inclined to backdash or jump to escape which sets up combos and counter hits.

Paitently hoping for Juri to get a command grab

Current opinions as a FANG main:
-Ryu is okay. Jack of all trades, master of none.
-Chun is solid. Broken? Nah, she’s too honest. 3S Chun with a lot of grime cleaned off.
-Nash can eat a bag of FrankenDicks (personal experience, I think I’m like 1-6 against that character lol)
-Bison hasn’t been explored enough. He kind of fell off since EVO/Beta 1.
-Cammy has to actually play street fighter now. She isn’t bad, just honest.
-Birdie is good in good hands, but bad players will get blown up hard.
-Ken is a worse zoner than Ryu. Lucky for him, zoning sucks outside of a few characters, so he’s better off.
-Necalli hits like a motherfucker, but they get confused when the match goes past 30 seconds
-Vega has some dirty stuff. But, he’s worse at being solid than Chun, so it evens out.
-Mika is so helpless against zoners, it’s hilarious.
-RASHIDOOO is a lot like Necalli: Once his set ups quit working, most of them are kind of free.
-Karin is annoying. Not as good as Chun/Nash/Vega, but a pain to defend against. Either get in that ass or let her rot outside cr.MK range.
-Laura gets zoned as hard as Mika, but has better oki. Why pick Mika when Laura works so much better?
-Zangief has decent normals, but gets shit on by zoners. FANG/Gief may actually be somewhere between 8-2 or 7-3 once the cloud is up.
-Dhalsim is only going to get stronger when our hands reach the level of enlightenment required to play him.
-FANG is so freaking awesome! I’ll never get tired of- CRAP I GOT KNOCKED DOWN. GG M8.

Just ran a match vs f champ and got doubled perfected. Jesus tap dancing christ dhalsim. Need people to raise their level so I can grind that matchup enough to understand the neutral and how to anti air him better since champ knows the spacing to get around chuns anti air if I don’t delay it a bit.

Other dhalsim why aren’t you spamming divekick. Honest is not how you describe a character who has a literal divekick, ambiguous mixups, multiple ways to be + on block, midscreen can run with back teleport, and the longest reaching normals in the game.

is vega good or not? one minute i think he’s right up there, next minute i think he’s ass. same goes for laura too.

to be fair f champ is arguably the best player in the world at this game at the moment. we’ll only truly know how good dhalsim is when people of his skill level get the same level of experience with the game that he has.

Chris G just had a 200 win streak 1 or 2 days ago with Laura.
