Street Fighter One

There’s a pretty good remake using mugen

The original conversions of SF1 were on ZX Spectrum, C64 and Amstrad.

Then there was an unoffical sequel (HKM) using the same game engine.

Then there was an emulated version released on PS2 as part of a Capcom arcade compilation.

I’m convinced that it’s still bad BECAUSE we have to do that along with other issues.

I was born in '88 but, SF1 was still the first fighting game I ever played. Weird. I don’t even remember where I played it. I think our old dusty arcade had it.

SF2 effectively WAS the update for it. When SRKs literally do 50% on anyone jumping in, there’s nothing left but to start again from the ground up.

mind blown.

Had no idea there was an English version

Honestly, SF1 is one of the worst games I’ve ever played. Seriously I don’t even know why Capcom decided to make a sequel back when they did.

although hilarious it’s ironic that there isn’t any other fighting game like it

the first time I ever played this game (6 years ago) I enjoyed it, I always find it funny how everyone hates the game so much

Originally though SF Alpha was supposed to be a remake of SF1, called Street Fighter Legends. Capcom scrapped that idea though when the game was about halfway done and decided to make Alpha a prequel to 2, and added some new people along with some Final Fight characters.

There were plenty of other p vs p fighting games before Street Fighter, but I’m not sure how versatile characters were. And yes, SFII is the effective update of the original, being at least four times better in every way. It only seems like Street Fighter was abandoned, because the updated Street Fighter (II) was such a success, that Capcom sold an almost immeasurable amount more arcades, comparatively.

It wasn’t until Street Fighter II and the following editions came out that people gained interest in Street Fighter on a known scale. Most people didn’t even know what Street Fighter was until the sequel hit arcade.

I played the game for the 1st time last year, the game’s fucking abysmal.

So if this game is to take place in the Street Fighter “timeline” then it goes: Street Fighter 1 -> Street Fighter Zero -> Street Fighter 2 -> Street Fighter 4 -> Street Fighter 3. That shit makes the Zelda timeline look normal.

It was really popular for a month or so after release in my local arcade (six button version, not the button-pounding one) in 88 or so. People got sick of it and moved on when the next big thing arrived, though.

Games like Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, and Fighting Street [Yeah, I said it] basically the early Finish Hiroshi fighters are dramatically different to anything that came out from the post SFII era.
