what do the titles “master” and “grandmaster” mean according to japanese street fighter?

Master is 40,000 BP or higher.

As far as I know, Grandmaster is reserved for the top 50 BP earners. If you’re ever in the top 50 (and have something like 80,000 BP minimum), you’ll earn Grandmaster rank. Once you earn it, you can’t lose it (as far as I know), so if you make it to 50, then get bumped down to 51, you keep the rank. It’s something like that, anyway.

You can definitely lose your GM rank and there are more than 50 GM ranked players in Japan. A couple of months ago Kirisuto and CYGNUS actually got bumped back down to Master for a little while. GM rank fluctuates depending on the top BP earners, so there is no real specified amount of points, but it tends to hover around 90,000. Also, win ratio factors in to an extent as well.

Finally got around to watching Nagoya vs Kansai. Epic battle. First time I’ve seen Yuu Yaa Abel in action. His Abel looks so basic but his mixup is deadly.

I noticed that they refer to Vega as “Clow” and Akuma by his American name on the scoreboard. They must be getting quite a lot of international viewers.
