Street Fighter in Beijing?

I’ve been over to the arcade @ Shuangjing a few times, its a pretty nice place. Not a whole lot of T6 going on, but plenty of SF4 players.

I also live in BJ - I dont speak enough Chinese to get much of a conversation going with the locals, but do they have gatherings outside of the arcades? Once BR comes out, it wont make too much sense to lay down 4 kuai a game. So are there crews who get together once in a while and play on console?

at the end of the month Qanba is coming out with a decent stick, http://www.qanba.com/shownews.asp?sendid=68

I will be in Beijing for about 2 weeks towards the end of November. Definitely going to be down for some games (CvS2/3S/SF4) and hopefully try to pick up a cheap customized stick while I’m there.

I’ll post again closer to my departure date to get some info.

There is no CVS2 in any arcade in Beijing as far as I know. The Chinese friends I’ve made here don’t know of a place either. Apparently it’s been a while since a sighting.

I have it running on emu on my PC though. If you bring a stick by, I’m up for some games. I love (and hate!) some CVS.

Mordak,
You can get tokens at Shuangjing 2 RMB for 3 (instead of just 1) if you know who to ask. There is a membership card that gets passed around by the Street Fighter players that gets you a huge discount.

If you’re really into Teken though, check out Xidan. There seems to be more regular Tekken comp there.

And holy shit, SRK really did invade this fall. Jeez. (Avatar changed, heh.)

So I’m going to Beijing next year after my 2nd quarter of Chinese class and was wondering if it’s muggy as hell, like I hear Shanghai is in the summer. I’m trying to stay for 3 weeks. I know it’s a ways off, but I like to get a jump on things. I also know I can Google for weather but I would like to hear from people with first hand experience. Thanks in advance!

Beijing is an exceptionally dry place, and its not too hot, so I wouldnt worry about it being too muggy. However, the pollution is worth mentioning, and sometimes it makes days pretty crappy.

During the cold season, Beijing gets winds from the northwest, IE, Mongolia/Russia/Siberia, so it’s really cold and dry. Like, invest in lotion dry. It’s not even November and I need to moisturize else I’m itchy.

During the summer months, we get winds from the southeast, so it gets pretty damn muggy.

Carmen, Mordak, when are you two free this weekend? I haven’t been able to hit the arcade for the last few weeks, so I’m about to freak out.

I’m thinking maybe we hit Xidan first, since they have SF4, KoF2002, and a good Tekken scene. If not bunch is going on there, we can always head on to Shuangjing.

I’m down for that, I should be free this upcoming weekend. Last time I went to Xidan I ended up on the 8th floor of some building and no one was playing tekken. I guess I picked the wrong arcade, but all my gf told me was that there was an arcade on the 8th floor of one mall and the basement of another mall, in xidan.

She neglected to mention there are like 40 malls, all 8 floors wtf…

get MSN yo!

Jason, get MSN dude. I just signed up for QQ. Add me: 858173384

qq lol ~ thats more ancient than aim.

MSN yo!

EDIT: Actually AIM is older, but still, OLD!

Thanks for the heads up on the weather.

I use QQ as well, MSN just doesn’t work for me.

Ok, so Saturday Afternoon, lets plan on getting together. I’ll send out some PMs and shit in case people sleep on the thread.

lol, I just got a text from a Chinese friend: ???arcade"???

Random question:

Should I exchange my Canadian Dollar in Canada before reaching Beijing or at the airport in China? Are there any reliable places in the city or Beijing to exchange?

You’re going to have a hard time exchanging anything for RMB outside of the country. Just wait until you get here. Any of the five major bank chains can exchange money for you. Don’t do it at hotels though, they rip you off.

The airport is ok too, I think. I don’t remember how bad they gouge you there. If you’re worried about that, just exchange a couple hundred RMB worth from them, then do the rest at a bank in town. 100-200 RMB should get you from the airport to just about anywhere in Beijing, even if the traffic is bad.

Also, if your Chinese isn’t good enough to argue with the cab driver, take a picture of his ID with your phone once you get into the cab. Be really obvious about it, so they know you’re doing it. They won’t fuck with you if you have their ID number.

Jesus, how did I miss this post? We go to the same school for crying out loud. We really should meet up.

Edit: OK, I just sent out PMs to the 7(!) of you I think ought to be in Beijing right now. Lets get some games on this weekend!

Are there still ST cabinets in Beijing? I didn’t have an opportunity to play last time I was there so I feel like I missed out. If so, any good players or hidden rules (e.g. o.Sagat is frowned upon)?

Currently no ST in Beijing that I’m aware of. Xidan used to have a cab, but it’s just hyperfighting now. There weren’t any secret rules that I know of. I’d walldive my heart out and not get punched.

Are you in Beijing currently?

Also, I buckled to peer pressure and now have MSN.

Nah, I went to see the Olympics, Tibet, and Hong Kong last year. I’ll most likely be back sometime in the next 2 years; maybe by that time, they’ll have ST again.

That’s a real shame though; HF is good too but not the same. I’d be wall diving all over too if I had the chance.

Yo, this Saturday sounds tight, I finally have a job so I have money hehe…

You can add me on that MSN or QQ (760391194)

See you ladies there, I should be there around 1230 or so.
