I agree with this wholeheartedly. Udon is a business still and not a charity therefore the ball remains in their court to make the extra effort to get people to like them and invest in them. I mean would you go to a supermarket for a full shop if they could only manage to stock 5 items for grocieries? A weak metaphor but the point is still there.
In the past Udon used to get upset with some of the negative criticism that was left here but how could they establish themselves further if they refuse to listen to the consumer’s in the first place?
I’m not saying though that they haven’t done some good work on SF as a comic, but it could still have been better. As the story continued it seemed to dry out more and focus on the less interesting plotlines in my opinion.
Udon is just going with the business model that Street Fighter’s always taken. I really wouldn’t mind it if the writing was better, but no matter what the quality of the writing is I wouldn’t really want to see a title like this overflowing with text. In the end it’s Street Fighter, not Shakespeare; inevitably the action will outweigh the story because Street Fighter “content” is just as the title implies.
The funny thing is - people here and in reviews complained about Chamba over and over again. Yet, more than six months later, nothing has changed. He still doesn’t draw backgrounds, his faces are still the same, everything is the same.
Seriously, check the threads for issues 1 and 2. Check the reviews on the net. Comic turn-around is 3 months, by issue 4 the comic should’ve been improved, but were on issue 7 already, and SF manages to have less backgrounds than an issue of Youngblood.
I’m dead serious, every issue so far has had less backgrounds than a Rob Liefeld comic. Grab some copies and compare if you don’t believe me.
That’s fanboy logic.
Say you love Cookie X. But one day, Cookie X is not doing it for you anymore. They changed the formula. It doesn’t fill your stomach anymore, it’s like eating cotton candy. Even the taste is different.
By your logic, **you would keep buying Cookie X forever **anyway! Hell, you say you would be thankful because Cookie X exists!
What kind of logic is that!?
You’re happy with the action?
Every fight is a free-for-all, every fight has a gimmick that makes you question if a win was actually a win or not, Chunners hasn’t won a single fight, main characters get beaten easily… We’re like, 25 issues in, and we haven’t had a tourney yet…
I also agree with the issues where the stories seem to be shorter. Street Fighter and Street Fighter 2 seemed so much longer in comparison. Turbo seems to be a short story because when I reach the end, I’m wondering “Wait, that’s it? The story was just starting.”
And about accepting what is given to us just because it is Street Fighter.
Let’s say that there is a second Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD game where the only difference between that and the first is that Akuma is unlocked from the start. I’m really going to purchase the same game merely because I’m a Street Fighter fan?
Look at Sugoi! Arcana Heart 2 for the PS2. That game came out with many issues that could have been rectified. But because it is Sugoi! Arcana Heart 2, the fans should accept such a terrible port and not speak their minds over the issues just because they got a PS2 version?
One issue that I spoke about was that Chun Li was a very underdeveloped character. But because Udon is making the Street Fighter issues, I am not allowed to give my opinion on what could be improved?
No one ever said “My word, this comic sucks!” We are merely speaking on what could be improved to make it a better comic.
