Street Fighter II GOLD Arcade Tokens

So I’m searching on Craigslist looking to find local deals on arcade sticks, arcade machines and arcade boards and I found something very interesting:

Discuss. Perhaps some of the OG’s know of this item.

Asking price: $500 :wow: :looney:

First of all hello to all my fellow Street Fighter 2 fans! This will be my first post to the SRK forums so let me start it off with a bang in response to the above post.

Up until now I was beginning to wonder if any more of the SF2 tokens had made it outside of Capcom after I left. Until recently when I found the above post I had not seen or heard of anyone else in all these years that claimed to have any of these tokens other than myself. Now, while I can’t say for sure that the tokens the person was selling via the above link (which is now dead) are the same as the ones I have, but they do sound VERY familiar.

To anyone here that may have seen them when the poster had them for sale, do you recall if they looked anything like this -

If so, then apparently some besides mine made it out into circulation after all. Wished I’d known about the link earlier as I could have added them to my collection as well.

Anyway, thanks for reading my comments and I look forward to more SF topics and discussions.

Wow, those are hella cool. Nice SF memorabillia I’ve never seen before.

Just when I thought nothing could be more badass than a Chuck E. Cheese token someone starts this thread and I see these tokens for the first time.

KoinOp, I ordered those when I was a kid. The order took a long time, so to make up they sent me 2 sets of the coins and a pack of SF2 cards. I wonder how much they are actually worth.

Haha, that’s way too cool.

So, then Capcom did do something with them after all and thus more made it into circulation. I’m glad because these tokens are some of the finest around and a great collectible for any die hard SF fan.

A little bit of history for you guys in regards to these tokens. Originally when we were developing SF 2 Capcom had some redemption games at our Santa Clara office that they were testing. These tokens which at that time had not yet been released to the public in any form were strictly in-house at that location. The tokens were to be the prize issued by the game when you won.

Now, being the collector of game memorabilia that I am I’ll admit that I got a bit glossy eye’d when I first saw them. My buddy James (of Dee Jay fame) said that if I wanted to get them I had better grab them then and there because he heard that the games and the tokens were probably not going to make it into production, so obviously I did.

After that I never heard of or saw those games or the tokens again, until now. So I’m guessing that when the redemption games didn’t get released that Capcom found another use for the tokens. VERY COOL indeed to see that others out there besides myself managed to get some as they’re easily one of the best SF collectibles I can imagine having.

Anyway, now I am curious about something though. You said that you managed to get 2 sets. So tell me, were they complete? Did they include the other characters not seen in my picture? Because when I grabbed those the other characters weren’t even available from what I could tell so I’d really love to see them or even better, perhaps purchase 1 of your 2 sets from you if you’d be willing to part with them?

shadolue?

Holy shit that is too dope. I WANT!

Glad you guys like the pics. Looks like they got a heck of a lot of hits too since then over on my Flickr page.

I also have some plush super deformer SF 2 characters (each about 1 foot tall) from back then too. Like the tokens I’ve been trying to see if they ever showed up elsewhere, but I haven’t seen them anywhere on line. I might post some pics of those as well. Even though they aren’t nearly as cool as the tokens, they’re still pretty cool just the same.

First of all hello to all my fellow Street Fighter 2 fans! This is my first post to the SRK forums.
I couldn’t resist because of this thread.

I have held on to my tokens for over 17 years now.
I recieved these from Capcom at the AOU in 1992 in Yokohama Japan…
It was the first time I had ever heard of Vega’s [Bison] last name “SHADOLUE”.

You can search GOOGLE for the word “SHADOLUE” and the only thing related
is this thread. I have never seen nor heard of anyone else with these tokens.

They are without a doubt my prized possession for Capcom memorabillia.
I have 3 coins and it would take a lot of money for me to part with them.
You would have to say these are extremely rare. :karate:

I thought “shadaloo” or “shadolue” or however you want to spell it was his fictitious dictator state.

Very cool.

Yes, you’re correct. It’s the location.

I’m going to put up some pics soon, so pls return and check them out.

Probably be better off putting that up in the market place on this site. Well I’m not sure about the rules on posting e-bay stuff but maybe check that forum.

Hello I’m Dhalsim India nice to meet u

Whoa

Wow I finally found something online about these tokens geez i feel so lucky but unlucky because i happen to have the FULL SET!!! all 12 TOKENS MUAHAHA!!! anyway I got these back in 92 from a old genises sf2 gaming booklet… So I do thinkg “some” have been through circulation but I have had a very difficult time finding any info on the rareity or value of these tokens… Unfortunetly they came in a cardboard capcom holder and the stickness from the tape on the back has coroded on the back of the coins…I think i might be able to find a way to clean them without damaging them but im gonna need to do some reaserch and then have them sprcially reholdered and slabbed into some new casing… Ill post some pics when i can…

I remember the coolest arcade token i ever had was one of Ryu doing a Shoryuken. Was really cool looking. Dunno where those are now though. I remember seeing a picture of one in Tip and Tricks once though.

SF2 tokens

I contacted Capcom to find out what the mintage for these sets were and they “don’t know” and aprently were only meant to be released in Japan but Ive heard slight rumors that they wern’t supose to be released at all to the public…
