Even though I’m not a Ryu fanboy, I would love to see him win the sf2 tournament on the Udon comic, because the Tokuma comic left me with a good taste of that event…so Ryu could beat M.Bison and then fight against Akuma when he arrives to kill M.Bison ( I don’t care who may win in this Ryu/Akuma battle since we still have the SF3 scenario to resolve that situation)
Nice issue. The Juni backup was nice, and Ryu learning to headbutt was rather funny to see.
T. Hawk is mega big. It’s funny how he had them go to that restaurant when he can barely fit into 2 seats. Makes you wonder if he’s really been there before.
Good interpretation of the Juli/Noembelu discrepency that the game screwed up.
The Gibson thing was obvious, but out of curiosity I check her first appearance for more discrepencies other than glasses: 1) her eyes are blue, 2) she has a tie on, and 3) she wears a watch. Okay so a lot can change over that amount of time but still, differences.
Overall nice. Not the most action-packed issue, but still setting things up well enough. Hope Gen’s fight is a good one.
BTW what happened to Arnold Tsang? I liked his work but this is the third issue I haven’t seen him on. Is he no longer with Udon?
Thats right. Arnold Tsang left comics and is now current working at Webzen in Korea.(Creators of MU online) Truly a talent that will be missed unless your into MMORPGs:sad:.
Will Alvin be pencilling every issue? I hope so, because his style is just spot on and I would love for SF2 to be more consistant art-wise than SF was.
i would love it if alvin pencilled every issue. i thought arnold was okay, but personally, i prefer alvin’s art. that’s one of the main reasons i love the comic. just don’t lose him
I kind of liked Arnold’s style more. His stuff reminds me more of the SF2 anime, while Alvin’s work echos the Alpha anime.
But Coco_j hit the nail on the head. Inconsistancy in the art was one of the few things I didn’t like about SF. As long as Alvin is on par and he does a vast majority (if not all) of the art, I don’t think anyone can complain about SF2’s visuals.
I gotta agree with coco_j here, there should be some consistency on the names we use, at least in the SF Comic portion of this Web site. And the names should be the American versions.
Its not that we dont KNOW the Japanese names, we all do. Its that the comic uses the American names, and those names are immediately understood without having to read sentences/paragraphs filled with:
Then Bison (boxer) hit Vega (cape) and Vega (cape) came back and used his attack on Balrog (ninja)! It was awesome!
Gouki I dont mind as much, because there is no Japanese character named Akuma therefore no character to get him confused with.
Again, its not that we dont know the names, its to make reading posts (some of them with enough issues that make them difficult enough to read as it is, ie., grammar/hitting the return key to separate paragraphs) a little more user-friendly.
Of course I expect no one to comply, for whatever Ive-been-calling-them-that-forever reasoning they may have, but I put it out there anyway.

The issue itself was good. My main complaint remain the same, too little room given to the main story. Other than that, its moving along quite nicely. Loved Dhalsim sliding under the hurricane kick, I always got love for the classic shit. Really nice set up for the next issue.
Though if I have to express one disappointment, it would be that theres WAY too little Ken. Hopefully hes just on the down low for now and ready to explode sometime in the near future.
Um, I think you agree with Bass X0 since Coco_j was talking about consistency in art? Ohs well won’t comply like you said. Meh, I could care less which names people use but that’s just me. Said all I have to say on this subject already, not commenting further to avoid an internet One Piece Zolo/Zoro Dragon Ball Saiyan/Saiyajin debate that’s been rehashed on the net 100s of times.
That’s too bad about Arnold Tsang leaving Studio Udon, I wish him the best. Some of my favorite drawings of SF’s first comic book run were from Arnold Tsang. But Lee’s SF artwork has grown on me, the book looks better than ever in my eyes.
Tsang did a huge part of the issues early in the SF1 run, and yeah #0 was a lot of it. I can tell the difference mostly from the eyes and the stroke width.
I liked Tsang’s style ever so slightly more, but if he’s gone he’s gone, nothing to do about it except appreciate Lee’s work and hope he doesn’t leave too.
got two questions guys, rather ask here than make a new thread
Tiamat, is there a site or place I can go to that shows the deviations the comic took from the game storyline?
What issues does the second tpb from the original comic run carry? Does it finish the remainder of the issues, or only go up to #12(the original block buster tpb went up to #6 along with the #0 story)
I was flipping through the second tpb, and at the end of one of the issues, it showed Bison rejuvenated, I immediately took it as the psycho drive, so wouldn’t that mean that the alpha story is seeping into the SFII storyline? Especially as Bison is still buffed in this issue.
I can’t think of any site that lists differences between the comic book and the storyline, although I’d like to think that a good bet is that if it’s in the comic but isn’t in the plot guide, it’s probably a deviation. Reading the RAWs seems to confirm this (an example being Dee Jay using capoeira and Bison’s master being Rose’s mother)
I really don’t think it’s worth listing the differences between the two because they are VERY different from each other in terms of on-going events (although in terms of backstory and facts like that such as Eliza and Julia being sisters and the differences mentioned in the RAWs like Rose’s mom, the comic has a lot of that. It’s just the ongoing events that differ from the games). Besides the “par for the course” events such as Ryu beating Sagat in SF1, I don’t think there’s been a single fight so far in the comic that happened at all or the way it did in the games and vice-versa (the only remotely close ones are Adon vs Sagat but there Adon won in the games but Sagat won in the comic, and Cammy vs Vega which was at completely different points and situation in the story in the game compared to the comic. And I guess Bison vs Charlie/Guile/Chun, but that was VERY different). And I guess Sakura vs Karin and Zangief vs R. Mika possibly, although those can probably be filed under “par for the course” as well (since what’s a Karin without Sakura or an R. Mika without Zangief?).
So… if you want differences in terms of fights, I can probably give them in a quickie list right here.
Fights sorta like in the games’ known continuity (far as I know):
Ryu vs Sagat (SF1 fight with Evil Ryu shoryuken at the end. Location is probaby different though, obviously)
Sakura vs Karin (before SFA3. Not many official details)
R. Mika vs Zangief (during SFA3? Not many official details)
Fights generally not in the games or done differently from the games:
Everything Else
Udoneko already stated that the comic was trying to follow the “spirit” of Street Fighter more than actual events. Following in-game events probably wouldn’t fit a single comic very well, anyways (since the SF storyline has almost always been more about individual storylines than a single overarching one)

Just to add -
Adon vs. Sagat (Adon won in the games because Sagat’s mind was clouded, Adon lost in the comic. In both versions Sagat gives up the title of Muay Thai’s champion to Adon, in the games by losing, in the comics he just gives it to Adon).
Ryu vs. Adon (Did not happen during SF1 like the games but later. Also, in the games Ryu won the fight with just one Shoryuken unlike the comic. Ryu wins in both versions).
