Street fighter EX thread(EX, EX+, Ex+@, EX2, EX2+, EX3)

I saw some cpu match vids of his. I call them “counter vids”. They just showed how he can counter well. Shinobi is more of all around good gamer like me. He playes 3rd strike and bring that type of style to his play. He kinda plays like me except I am more of a ‘venus fly trap’ player. He is more like a Snake player.

Ah, I have actual matches of him vs another human opponent. VS a cpu means nothing cause of patterns its likely to fall into. Matches vs a human opponent show the players real skill, and these matches show that the playing is far from expert, I’d say average at best.

Qandiso: on Hokuto:

Hokuto’s fake-out moves are exactly what pushes her over E. Hokuto. Hokuto in the right hands is nigh-untouchable and can punish any whiffed move. As I’ve said, she’s the only character I “fear”. E. Hokuto has easier, more damaging combos, but that’s about it. Unfortunately, I don’t really have the patience to play her (both versions. Maybe spiderdan would care to comment?

Wow, I’m gone for a week and the thread turns into a “spark” war (not yet quite up to “flaming” ). Anyway, my opinions on vids go like this:

  1. If it’s a combo vid, unless it shows some really funky stuff (like variations to the maniac mode missions in EX2+) then I really don’t care.

  2. If it’s a match vid, unless it’s from a tourney, and unless I can actually see skill then I really don’t care.

  3. I don’t make vids: a) don’t have the equipment b) can’t make combo vids, mainly because I can’t do the really funky stuff (see #1) c) a tourney for EX1? I can only wish. But really, I’d love to be able to do this, just to illustrate the mentality of someone panicking when faced with Gief

I have never seen any vid for EX, done by anyone. I usually judge a person if he knows what he’s talking about by what he says (and in this instance, Shinobi has held my respect because, if you manage to sift through what he’s saying, he actually knows the “little things” that can only be learned from a lot of human vs human matches – of course this only means that he has experience, if not actual skill, which I really can’t say anything about since I haven’t seen the vids), and unless that person says something blatantly wrong (such as parrying in SFZ3, or Raging Demon being the best move in the world, or V-ism sucks because you can hit someone out of it with a jab), I usually refrain from direct flames (and no, I won’t post my opinions on the people who have posted on this thread, since it’s already starting to degenerate to flames [maybe on another thread:)], and someone has yet to say something incredibly stupid). EX (particularly EX2 and EX2+) is still heavily played in some regions, such as Phil and HK (especially in HK, where EX2+ is held at the same level as SF3:TS and ST), so I have seen some really funky shit, and have fought against some really funky shit.

Hmm… One of the problems of the EX series is the weak AI, particularly with regards to fireballs. They’re particularly vulnerable to fireball->DP and fireball->jump back (repeat). If you can pull of even 10 wins without jumping or fireball trap then you’re on your way to being a good player.

About Zinc and kaillera…
Doesn’t kaillera work with ZInc?

Questions

EX1- Mondu(or anyone), since you seem to know about all the technical stuff, I was wondering what’s the difference between Jack’s Soccer Ball Kick and Bat Swing. It just seems that the soccer ball kick is a slower version of the bat swing that doesn’t combo as well. What’s it good for?

I don’t understand how Hokuto’s sway cancel let’s her punish whiffed moves better than any other character. By the time Hokuto swings around isn’t there more than enough time to block? Can you give me an example? I’m having a tough time visualizing this.

EX2- Col Guile(or anyone), you mentioned something earlier about Area being able to start a powerful excel combo off of a jab. Could you explain it?

Guile is the fastest SC meter builder in SFEX2+? I don’t quite get that. When I’m playing the game, D.Dark or Hokuto builds super meter much quicker.

EX3- Bile Jester(or anyone), this question is a tough one. At least for me. In the faq I read the author said that Sharon could keep an opponent up in the air long enough for the tag meter to re-fill completely, but I don’t remember the combo.

Unfortunately my EX3 disk is scratched, and the music is acting wierd, but I have no way of knowing whether or not the tag meter is screwed up, or it’s the wrong combo.

When she tags in(from Ken’s Hadoken, tag, c.MK, Hurricane Kick), I do j.HK, c.MP, qcf+P,f+p, SC kick launcher, cancel, c.HP, SC kick launcher, cancel, c.HP, SC kick launcher, cancel, but the meter still isn’t filled. Assuming nothing is wrong with the tag gauge, How do you keep the opponent air-borne long enough for the tag meter to fill?

I don’t think it is up yet.

Agreed. This is how I judge. Vids really mean shit unless you know what you are doing.

Do you mean an Anti-air jab or straight jab? Area can only start a excel off the ground with a jab to robot arm combo then you juggle. If you are using a anti air jab then you cannot have the robot arm on. Areas’ jab has very high priority even over some supers. If you are going into an anti air or counter excel then: Jab-excel-robot arm returs-Crouching fierceX2-QCFX2+p(no charge)-last hit juggle like her maniac- excel- Crouching jabX2-standing light kic-crouching medium kick-Crouching light punch-QCF+light punch-QCF+Medium punch-QCF+heavy punchX2- QCF+light kick.

You have to have a good sense of timing of when the arm will return or you will lose the combo. Good thing about this one is that it is not too hard and if you mess up on the timing then you should only use one super bar. This combo set up also works for Skullo.

Let me see.

Hey people~
SHIT…i didn’t realize that there’s a thread abt SFEX!!!
damn it…o well…i am from HK…and i got some combo video of my frd in HK…and he’s the Champ in HK…

those combos are done in manic mode in SFEX2+
and it’s done by them…not by computer~
edit:here is a excel i made…it’s around 102 damage with 1 excel~
Area:s.lk,s.hk,s.lp(this lp won’t hit),walkforward a bit,s.mp,s.mp,s.mk,s.hp,c.mk,c.mp,c.hp.c.hk,forward s.hp,excel ends,c.mk,do a fireball motion with lp or mp…whatever it’s called~
Trick:and forward s.hp is RIGHT at the end of the excel…but if you do it too slow…it won’t combo with the c.mk~
also…remember that you need to press it VERY FAST with this excel~
lastly…the s.lp(this lp won’t hit)…the s.lp is to cancel the recovery time for s.hk…so you won’t be push too far from your opponent~
if you guys want anymore damaging excel…you guys can ask~

I tried to play online…
Got all the way to the game chat, but then when I hit start nothing hapened…
I wanna play EX online!!!

Colguile,

Thanks for the reply. Strange Sunset (Guile, Allen), Ken’s, Ryu’s, Sakura’s, Chun Li, and Garnet Sky (C.Jack and Blair).

Those are my fav. SF songs ever, in that order. When I run, and I need that kick at the end, I play those songs in my head. Actually having access to even the first two of them would be awesome.

Wow, you were in the Manila? I used to live there and helped make the game popular (first in my arcade to figure out that you can easy AA with Excel).
There was also a small scene in Singapore when I went there to study and I introduced the game mechanics (EXCEL!!!)

But it must be some time ago, since you last went to Asia. EX died in Singapore and Manila around 2001. Well, there still are some places in Manila, but mainly in unknown arcades!

Regarding your points 1 -3 I’d like to add for EX2(+). If people don’t know how to apply Excel in a match (Anti Air, Blow Thru) then they suck! That’s like playing Third Strike w/o Parry!

Also, I noticed here stuff in this thread like Somersault into Double Somersault is impossible! WTF?! It so easy, every good to average player can do it since EX1. Shit, you can do shit w/ Excel like repeated Somersaults or Somersault, Sonic boom, Somersault, sonic boom, etc.

There is so much mind games with Excel, it’s evil!

My ranking, for those that care (top 5).

EX 2 : Guile, Nanase, Shadow Geist, Hokuto, Sharon

EX 2+ : GARUDA !!! (cheap ass bastard w/ his 1 Excel 50% shit), Bison, Sharon, Ken, Hokuto, V. Rosso

Blanka is best character as a non Excel user (he doesn’t need it since his Excel is crappy). Probably best incarnation after CvS2.

If anyone wants combos or Excel Set ups, ask away. My characters are Guile, Chun Li, Bison, (a little) Nanase! I had plenty of match experience!

chun_li1

Huh, 1 Excel without anything after? Isn’t that "primitiv? Normally I always do and see (if there is enough meter) 1 Excel (AA or ground) followed by another Excel or Super. Or Super, then followed by Excel (EX2 Chun Li after her Rising Super do Excel).

chun_li1

Somersault to double somersault is impossible for anyone who doesn’t understand the concept of canceling. If someone thinks that it is done by
charging d,u+k,charge db,uf,db,uf, then I could understand them saying that it is impossible.

But the real motion is just charge db, uf+k, then quickly db, uf+k. It’s only difficult to people who aren’t good at charging.

Guile’s double somersault, opening gambit, double somersault isn’t really that bad either. I would be able to do it more consistently if I used charge characters more regularly. For me, it’s very difficult to do on SFEX1, but not so difficult on EX2+ or EX3. The only thing that bothers me about the combo is that it doesn’t do very much damage for a level 3 cancel. Not in EX2+ or EX3 anyways.

Col Guile, and G_ngan, thanks for the excels.

Chun Li1, if you have excel set ups for Chun Li, then I would be very appreciative to hear them.

Chun Li Excel Set ups, hmm …

Keeping it short.

  1. Standard AA Setup : Opp. jumps in, you activate Excel, then Jab, RH, Lighning Kick etc.

  2. Against characters with 2 in 1 fireball combos. E.g. Ryu does from further away low forward into fireball. Press Excel (or hammer on it) after you block the forward. Chance is you activate Excel before the fireball hits. If this happens, combo away!
This works best with small characters like Chun Li, Nanase, Hokuto, Vega. Must be because they got a “slimmer” Body…

  3. Anything, that is not a “true” combo can be interrupted w/ Excel. Not a true combo, Skullos strong or forward into that Spinning body attack!
Or timing is slightly off when doing standard low strong, low forwards w/ characters!

  4. After a Hienshu (qcb+K) if it connects, do a Excel and combo away! Same for SBK but who really does that in a match (except against Zangief!)?

  5. In EX2 (not 2+), after her Rising Kick Super connects you could do Excel!

Those are her standard ones. Note, some can be done with other characters.

I don’t feel like going into her more complicated set ups. I don’t have the PS1 EX2+ version, other wise I would have posted the move sequence and and timing on each move for her “fun” air juggle Excel.

chun_li1

I got them. I’ll put them in a Zip and mail em.

Do you know the chun li infinite for EX2? Or the Ryu infinite? It was on the arika website years ago and they were kickass.

Look at my Area excel. IMO I think a excel after is more usefull rather than a super. Unless it is a minimal stun or in a juggle hit. Like the great cancer chain off the 3rd or 4th hit. 5th hit will send them fling. IMO any excel that can cancel for a long time leading into an infinite is really risky if you do not know what you are doing.

FK-DBFK is not hard. Opening gambit into DBFK IMO is hard. My hands cannot move that fast anymore due to years of bad arcade sticks and Kens’ shinryuken extra hits.

It never did. IMO guile does not need supers at all. Not in EX+@, EX2(he got the typhoon in projectie form so it was better for chip and pressure), EX2+, and EX3 he did need combos. Badly. But in EX2+ guile did not need combos. The mere THREAT of a level 3 in guile posession turned your opponent into a turtle. Sonicboom chip-excel- jab juggle-excel- sonicboom-DBFK. Guile owned hard.

hey…i don’t get why is ken rank so high~
in japan…i forget abt the ranking…but i am sure Nanaese is the first…then following by sharon and hakuto~
here is a excel for V.Rossol EX2+
it can almost kill a character with three meters~
s.lk,s.hk,s.lp(won’t hit and walk forward a bit),s.mp.s.mk.s.hp,s.hk,c.mk.c.mp,c.hp and do a a move where he throws from gold shit with mp(whatever it’s called)…excel ends…c.mp,c.mk,and do whatever you think it’s most damaging~
i usually do a fireball x 2 then into super then cancel again into another super~

to g_ngan:

I saw a few of the excels on Shinryuken.com. But I wasn’t sure if there were more or not. they were number 106-114 if I recall correctly, where there anymore?

um…idon’t think there’s anymore
but i ca, help you ask them when i see them~
they are probably too lazy to put it on net~

Whoah, where has this thread been? Good to see all the EX nuts post here.

Chun_li1 (or anyone), which one is Garuda’s BS 50% Excel in EX2+?

I’ll rewatch the vid from shinryuken.com and tell you the moves I see for the first excel sequence. Though they also had on there a 100 percent combo with only 3 bars without excels.

Jumping Fierce, jump toward, excel in air (in air excel): Roundhouse kick:land onto ground, cHP,sHK,sHP, chest spikes, chest spikes, gouga (end excel). and by repeating the kick ground super with gougas over and over again you can still your opponent.

-credit to Shinryuken.com for the combo-
