There are little picky things I like better about CE like the character colors. A lot of the character outfit colors in HF look fucked up compared to some of the ones in CE. But as much as i love CE, HF IS a better game. I definitely agree that it’s the definitive SF2 game though. I don’t like some of the additions they made in ST and I feel like HF is more “pure.”
Both CE AND HF desync pretty badly in GGPO… But for some reason, HF desyncs a lot more often than CE (maybe it’s because of the game speed?).
Besides…would you rather play God-tier Bison in CE…or bottom feeder Bison in HF? :wonder:

HF had a lot of players on 2DF but old Supercade kind of killed it

As a South American player i can confirm that here in my country (Chile) no one jumped to HF… and, believe it or not, just a very few people jump to Vanilla SSFII or even ST… CE is a religion here, CE is -THE- Street Fighter II.
There are a lot of reasons, the first was because HF was released by Capcom for fight against hacked and pirated copies of the game (like Rainbow) but here in South America the hacks in the 90s exist EVERYWHERE. For price and lack of interest Arcade center owners don’t give a shit about HF… they tried with Vanilla, and some very few people plays, but after ST people starting to feel that ST was “too different” to CE and Arcade owners find CPS2 too expensive… at least for a SFII game.
The other reason of why HF wasn’t played is because people here is just too “play to win” minded… and when they starting to confirm that Bison was ass they back to CE in a month.
So yeah, CE is king in South America, specially here and Brazil. You can check it out on GGPO if you don’t believe me. The number of Chilean and Brazilian players is pretty high.

Do they play more ST in Europe? I figured ST is big in NA, Japan, and parts of Europe, while CE seems to be the sex in Central & South America, Southeast Asia (or all of Asia for all I know). I was figuring on population, but I suppose I don’t know enough about it to make a truly educated guess.

I know for a fact that France and England are pretty high on the ST scene. Maybe Italy, too…
I would say that CE is more popular only in Korea. Japan has that ST love down to a T.

I dont think the st scene in the uk is all that big or great.
Maybe now with neo empire and all that shit it’s a bit bigger but i remember back in about 2004 when we were doing regular 3s ranking battles we tried doing an st one along side it, we did 2 or 3 max before calling it a day due to poor turn out.

Ah must have been before 2003 then, i’d stopped around the time neo empire started, i never went to the student union place rbs had been moved to troc from the artic hell that was the hall in stratford.

Thing is ST and 3S were always a completely different crowd.
ST came out in 94 when arcades like Namco Wonderpark, Sega world in Troc and a good deal of other major arcades (all the namco stations across the UK, for instance) were alive and well. In London especially ST was huge.
By 3S time the arcades were dead, most OG players were in retirement/hibernation and a 3S ranking battle in a student union in Zone 5 or whatever was never going to get them out playing.
Early NE events in 2003/2004 kind of time ST was still the most popular game. Also apart from a few players like Ryan most UK player stuck to one game, so 3S players didn’t play ST, Alpha 3 players didn’t play Marvel etc.
But yeah overall it’s a fact that the UK scene is very small and apart from Troc and Casino there are pretty much no ST machines anywhere in the UK. Plus we play AE in casino cos it has better sticks and people can sometime beat Shoji with CE Bison or Guile 
So yeah thousands of units of CE in China and Latin America VS 2 ST units in the UK arcades pretty much makes us irrelelvant. There are more privately owned ST boards than there are in arcades. The only thing that makes the UK a bit different is we have no CE or HF scene whatsoever, an no cbainets anywhere either. It’s ST or nothing, really.

I honestly don’t believe that either China OR Latin America has legit CE units, to be quite honest.
yeah obviously, but fake or real they get played. Don’t care if they’re real really, just about what game gets rinsed the hardest. I reckon CE by a long long way. It sold the most by a mile and the units never got thrown away, they just got moved to poorer countries and cloned/pirated to fuck.
