Rose from Alpha 1 was actually the first to have something like the shadow multi-hit super or what ever it’s called.
The thing about the Alpha series that it spawned a lot of original ideas that were seperate from Street Fighter 2. While other fighting game companies were trying to copy SF2, Capcom was trying to get away from SF2 with the Alpha series. All those characters who are not from ST, that first appeared in the Alpha series, really broke the mold. Alpha is like the middle ground game between ST and 3S. In ST there’s classic SF2 and in 3S there’s just a whole new entire system. Alpha is a mixture, especially Alpha 3, which gets as far away from the SF2 system as it can while not completely abandoning it.
SF4 AE is just a greatest hits album although really watered down.
Never got too deep into ST and my basics really suffered. The whole V-ism thing turned me off of A3 even though it seemed lively with cool art. After a hard try at getting into the hype of the new wave up to SSF4 I returned to my roots and never looked back. Spent my time working towards dat Phd in Street Fighter.
It would be cool to try A3 again if a decent port gets made but do you guys really want Capcom to plop out an ugly ass shallow friggin A4 monster?
Well Cota originally had it where you can chain any which way you want (backwards even Heavy kick to light punch was possible if the hit boxes allowed it) if you want to count that as custom combos.
XCOTA is underrated. It was really popular. It launched the Versus Series in the US and saved the Capcom arcade industry in the US until 2004. This how I see it Street Fighter is the universal global game. Marvel is the USA game and Vampire is the Japanese game. Originally Vampire was suppose to follow ST and be the next big Capcom game but it didn’t catch on here even though it was a hit in Japan. So Xmen eventually became Capcom’s plan when it became a hit.
I wouldn’t say that’s entirely true. In COTA, each character’s ability to chain moves is governed by a preset chain ‘map’ known as the magic series. You are limited to what you can chain together depending on what magic series your character has.
Every time I mention Alpha 3 Max, the same guy I was talking about frowns upon it lol. That game didn’t have infinites right? Also Charlie Nash was fun, it’s nice sometimes to have another character with the same moveset, but the moves are used differently. E.g. Ryu, Ken, and the other shotos. The extra characters were nice too.
Oh yeah, even though I like A2 more I still show some love for A3. I had all the ports for it, with GBA being the worse one but that’s understandable given the GBA limitations. I played A-Karin and V-Ryu.
