Street Fighter 8 spoilers and discussion

Does anyone else besides me think that picture of Kei being really grumpy was made just for Tiamot
I also liked how the Chun Li Interpol scene resembled her SFA2 ending. She was wearing the same outfit and the head guy looked just like he did in the game. Ah, I just love little easter egg appearances. Do you think we’ll see a showdown between Chun Li and Fei Long, or Chun Li vs. Xiayu and Yanyu? That would be awesome. I’d like to see these two dolls in action soon, as well as Chun Li since Udon said Chun would be kicking some tail in this arc. I can’t wait.

Yay grumpy surly Kei and Dolls! Good times!

Noembelu isn’t in a game because Capcom is lazy and teh suck? Two hatchets on ropes could have made for such a fun fighting style, too.

Alas, comic book shops are really stupid or something. The street fighter comic always sells out within hours of release or so! Why the hell don’t these morons order more? :bluu: Waste of potential business, both for Udon and for the comic store owners.

About Fei-Long busting out his Nun Chuckus out of nowhere, he does that in the games as a win pose. They are tucked in his back somewhere obviously.

And you should check out Fist of The North Star, another Bruce Lee knock off. Whenever Kenshiro decides to use Nun Chuckus, their they are magically tucked in to the back of his jeans! Ha! Ha! FOTNS is one of the greatest Mangas/Animes ever IMHO.

The Chun-Li scene looked like it came straight from her SFZ2 ending!

Let me say that this issue was SOOO worth the wait, absolutely amazing. Though i wouldn’t say the art in the last issue was “sloppy” (further enhanced by the artist substitutions), it was definitely not on par with this.

I’m normally pretty good at seeing changes in artists, but i was just unable to here, except Arnold’s contribution at the end - but he’s awesome anyway.

I hate to focus on the art because it’s the story that matters always, but it is really amazing, Udon - you rock and it will be my pleasure to wait 2 months (or however it long it takes) for the next issue if everything is as RIGHT as this. Though Ryu vs Adon seems mighty tasty. [Drools in anticipation].

As for the story, awesome as always, its been mentioned already but i do love how Cammy’s story is unfolding (especially through the interrogation scene), The snapshot of Ryu - priceless. Fei Long was cool also.

Sorry for my long winded-ness, but i think i speak for everyone when i say keep it up Udon… please.

Actually, she’s Vietnamese.

Noembleu’s rope probably allows the hatchets to be used like bolas.

I liked the barefoot sakura idea. hopefully they’ll make her fight that way

It was a pretty good issue, I’m a lot more satisfied with it than my wishes for 7. The art was good, but I didn’t like the art in the Sakura/Karin sidestory. Overall, clean, concise, and straightforward.

I almost missed the Kei thing because that page looked so different from the opposite page I thought it was another ad :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, points:

+5 for Kei
+5 for Fei Long kicking ass.
-1 for the water comment. It’s a cool quote but not appropriate for that situation.
+3 for Adon showing up.
+4 for Sakura’s photo of Ryu stuffing his face.
+2 for the reference to Chun Li’s A2 ending (same outfit)
+5 for Cheap Shots. I’ll admit I wasn’t too into it in past issues but the whole idea of a “Street Fighter Land”, Guy’s fox-like appearance and Balrog’s squished cameo was enough to make me dig it.
+3 for the doll references and Satsuki’s return appearance.
Even 0 for the backup story. I give it zero instead of some negative because I don’t hold the backup stories against Udon. Anyway this particular story has the unfortunate fate of drawing comparisons to the original Sakura Ganbaru! manga and falls short IMHO. Even if it was only 4 pages compared to hundreds in the actual manga it still could have been better than it is.

Total 26 pts, good issue. Though thinking about it, not a whole lot has happened yet.

NO MORE BACK STORIES!!! THE ART IS CRAPPY AND THEY TAKE UP SPACE!!! CUT THAT ISHT OUT!!! COMIC BOOKS ARE SHORT ENOUGH AS IT IS!!!
Cheapshots can stay, but please get rid of those stupid backstories. They take away from the main story.

Yes! Cut the backstories so it’ll make more room in the comic for paneltime of the Dolls and the grumpy surly one!

No way, I love the backstories. If anything has to go, it’s Cheapshots. I’d seriously be pissed if the backstories were cut. I love how they help with background info and showcases another artist’s talent. Maybe we should have a poll?

Sounds good to me!

Personally, I don’t mind the backstories (as long as Salvador Larocca, Adam Warren and whoever did the art this time are kept FAR AWAY.)

Ryu vs. Sagat, Charlie & Guile, Vega & Cammy, and Ken, Eliza and Zangief were pretty good. (Still puzzles me how Ryu vs. Sagat and Charlie saving Guile got left out of the TPB. They’re storyline essential…)

Hello,

My 2c. I like all the sections. Its nice to have the diversity. Shame we can’t have a longer story and the other sections as well but that’s life I guess

Oh and on another note. Wouldn’t Ryu have met Adon in the first SF tourney? In the game he was the character before Sagat so you could say that Ryu had to face him in the semi finals. At the very least he would have seen Ryu fight Sagat since Adon was Sagats pupil at the time (altho I may have my timing wrong on that one)
Of course on the flip side this is UDON’s continuity so they can do what they want and its a very minor point  SF is by far my fav book that I collect.

Haven’t got the comic yet, imports come Thursday around here, on the shelf Friday… but personal opinion, I like Adam Warren and I dig his art. I also so happen to enjoy the back stories. Seeing different art styles of the characters is enjoyable and was a defiante plus on the comic as a whole. I mean we all know how capcom draws em, so its nice to see variation on the characters. Even the one in issue 7 was intresting in nothing else.

Also Never get rid of Cheap Shots. Please. It hasn’t failed to amuse on some level since the beginning and it would be a tragedy for it to go.

This was a good issue, such a tease though but I have to remember that with American comics the volumes are short. Alvin Lee and Arnold Tsang are great artists and always humble me more and more, I just have to turn it in to positive energy to keep working hard and getting better. Garza’s back issue was very unique. I think Street Fighter requires a different aesthetic and to me and it’s not that it didn’t work its just his style and approach is different so in that light, it worked so it was a new approach. I would like to see Joshua Middleton to do back stories. He currently does Pencilling for “NYX”, which is a great book if anyone doesn’t know about it. Great writing and Middleton’s work is just amazing.

8 was such a tease, Ryu v Adon might be really good. I’m still waiting for Guy and Rolento to show up. I would love to see how Alvin draws both charas. I would post my art here but all that talk about Alvin Lee and Tsang makes me a bit scared to show anything >_<. I am doing cover work for EST magazine which will be on sale at Otakon 2004 if anyone’s interested.

Edit: To udoneko, I apologize for unkind to any of the staff at Udon Comics. I do realize that this is an honorable project and its driven by passion and I did’nt mean to offend anyone by comments concerning artwork. The project as a whole and individually is wonderful and I can’t wait to see more.

issue 8 was good. I was honestly about to quit buying the comic if this issue sucked. but it doesnt so i’ll have to spend more money. man the mark brooks cover was awsome! i liked is work on siderman also so i was siked that he was doing a cover. the back story as usual sucked asshole. i know udon wants well known artist but these fuckers are giving them half assed work thats taking up space. i love the idea of guest artist but there needs to be major quality control.

Nokato: If my University results go well I will hopefully be going to Otakon 2004 as a huge “Yipee! WOO” celebration of epic purportions. As such I shall look out for ya cover art when/if I am there.

As a note: Otakon 2003 was the first time I heard of the street fighter comic and where I brought Issue 0.

Take this as the first warning of using improper words or terms.

You do not like the art of the guest artists does not mean that you can call them names. And for the Nth time I am saying this again -

THE GUESTS AGREED TO DO THE BACK UP FOR US AND WE ARE HONORED THAT THEY ARE DOING THAT. THE ALL HAVE A VERY BUSY SCHEDULE AND THE EFFORT OF TAKING THE TIME TO DO OUR SF BACKUP IS ALREADY ASKING A LOT.

AND I PERSONALLY DO NOT BELIEVE THE QUALITY IS BAD ON ANY OF THOSE BACK UP STORIES. IT IS NOT THE SAME STYLE BUT FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, I HAVE SAID THAT BY HAVING DIFFERENT GUESTS DOING THE BACK UP STORIES, WE CAN SEE MORE OF THE DIFFERENT INTERPRITATIONS OF HOW OUR BELOVED SF CHARACTERS WILL LOOK UNDER DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES.

RESPECT THE OTHERS AND YOU WILL BE RESPECTED.

While I don’t believe I intended to insult the guest artists (and I think you were talking to someone else anyway), I do find it unfair of me to just say that the guest artists were bad. Heck Salvador Larocca draws for X-Men for gods sake so he must be good.

I just don’t aesthetically agree with the work that these artists did for those issues.

Adam Warren’s characters typically have GIGANTIC LIPS and odd monkey shaped heads. Never been a fan of that look. He did draw the action somewhat well, though he could have coreographed the Chun-Li/Cammy fight better.

Salvador Larocca’s main problem is probably that he isn’t that familiar with Street Fighter. Ryu & Ken look great as long as they’re not fighting… (Oh, and Ken losing his ponytail to a Hurricane Kick?)

The guy who drew the backup for number 8 made the characters faces look too squat. Sakura and Karin looked like ogres in sailor fukus.

Looking forward to next ish with LeSean’s backup and more Cheapshots!
