Street Fighter 4 remake? Seriously?

What are you talking about. SF3 had 2 revisions.

Sf4 needs characters to compete with the new like Poison v Crimson Viper, Abel v Dudley, Gouken vs Oro , Rufus v yun, El Fuerte v Hugo. These Characters would help flesh out the story and bring the storyline in for sf3.

omg MvC3!?!?! :hitit::hitit::blah:

Don’t let the imaginary door hit you on the way out.

But no, seriously, don’t come back.

This is how Street Fighter works, I don’t mind. Maybe I would mind if I was an SFIV console player. Console games are crazy expensive these days. But I’m not, and I’d buy SFIV PC 2 without even thinking about it. Clearly worth it, what with all the hours of fun I’ve already gotten from the first one.

Updates are now called remakes? Look up the history of fighting games and see that these “remakes” are an important part of this genre.

So I say nay to you sir.

Yeah…

We can come up with a number of logical reasons for arcade sticks and update-remakes and other things… But in the end, “it’s part of our rich (sub)culture” is actually good enough for me.

yeah, until you ruined it! Now we’re all onto you!

WTF!!!

There has been some talk where I am, about a remake of Hokuto no Ken coming out an updated version which should feature Shuu. As cool as it would be for some of these problems with Hokuto no Ken to be addressed finally, why the hell do I have to pay to get another copy of a game they should’ve just done right the first time? Why do I basically have to buy a PATCH that should be released for free?
Make Shuu DLC, patch the original Hokuto no Ken in an update and get your hands out of my pockets Arcsystem Works/Sega.

Anyone feel even remotely the same? I’ve felt like i’m the only one having this problem with Arc/Sega lately.

The reason for this is because companies need to make money. It isn’t exclusive to Street Fighter, or even fighting games for that matter. Madden, Halo, GTA etc. all come out with new games that are, to a varying degrees, updates to existing games and they’re are sold as brand new games.

Patches are usually done to fix bugs, counter-act cheats/exploits that have been found, and sometimes to add small features that strengthen online play. Most new features/content that are added for free in patches aren’t completely altruistic. They’re usually done to strengthen the fan base for a game. The side effect of this is that it continues to drive sales of the existing game if the core community is still playing it. It can also be done to strengthen the franchise, so they can make spin off merchandise, movies, and…more sequels.

You’re thinking isn’t completely out-of-line though. Back in the early days(NES, Genesis, SNES, etc) there was no way to provide patches. Going from World Warrior to Champion Edition to Hyper Fighting required a brand new cartridge. This established a conventional practice that is still in place today. The truth is that today, the technology exists to update games in drastic ways via add-on packs, but for some reason that hasn’t embraced for console games, aside from very minor things like costumes. Expansion map packs, for instance, typically don’t sell very well. This same traditional thinking is what currently confines XBL Arcade titles to “small” games. There’s no reason SF4 couldn’t have been released in an online form for $40~60. But most people balk at the idea of spending more than $10~15 for a download-able game. Why? Tradition.

If it makes you feel better, I’m pretty sure the way games are made and sold will evolve over time. For instance, in Korea, it’s quite common for most games to given away for free and all of the profit comes from selling add-on stuff to the game(Costumes, weapons, etc). But the gyrations of change happen slowly. My prediction: Some day all media(Games, music, movies) will all be subscription based. You’ll pay a set fee and play, watch, listen to anything you want. But until that day comes, you’ll need to just roll with whatever is the current sales plan.

ummm, dont you have a choice to just not get the update? lol. whats it gonna cost, an extra 10-15 bucks. i mean, you dont eat out twice for the week, and there is your sf4 update money right there. come on now. any balance changes should be free, but if they plan to add much more, like new characters, with new prologues and epilogues, new stages, new music, etc… i think they can feel free to charge for the work that goes into making that happen, and if times are to rough for you to purchase that update, then you just hold out, son. dont get so upset over video games.

oh, and yeah, i want another hnk badly. i want some souten no ken characters in that bitch too!

lol no Jagi love? if only for his janky ass walk at least. Jagi mirror matches are golden. They should also include Devil Reverse as one of those gimmicky ass giant characters.

EDIT: and Ryuuken as a hidden boss or some shit.

This thread is now about HnK
