Street Fighter 4 Dash - Abel

Whenever capcom releases the next edition of the game, its likely that many of the characters will get some tweaks/rebalancing.

There is already a thread for what people wish Abel would be given. I’m more interested in whether people think Abel would be buffed or nerfed in a new edition, and what they think are likely to be changed.

I imagine that pro players like busta and HAV and the Juice are going to have more insight on what might get nerfed/buffed next go-round, and I’m really curious to hear those thoughts.

I’m obviously omega-new at all this, but I can’t help but think they might improve the “priority” of FS, since it seems to have been designed for AA. But that they might nerf his ultra since it’s so easy to juggle into and it does so much damage.

anyways, I’m bored so if you don’t want to speculate then pay no mind, sorry to clog the boards.

They are NOT going to improve falling sky. If they do, Abel jumps to the top of the tier since no one can jump in on him.

If they buff anything it’ll be some frames on specific moves or move some hitboxes around. Abel’s already a very scary character.

do you think he’s more likely to get buffs than nerfs? I’ve heard people complaining about how potent his ultra is.

When you play him yeah, when I play him… :shake:

I think EX Falling Sky should have upperbody invincibility. It wouldn’t put Abel to the top as he’d be burning valuable meter to deter one jump in. Kinda like how Chuns EX SBK stops you jumping in at her.

apart from that I don’t think he needs much tweaking, maybe slightly faster normals to give him a decent footsie game?

If EX FS had upperbody invincibility then he could stop crossups after getting knocked down. He could also force his opponent to stay grounded, which means lots of safe Wheel Heels to the face.

All of a sudden, Abel’s gameplan goes from relatively risky to pretty damn safe, just with this one change. No grappler’s game should ever be that safe.

Also think about Chun’s EX SBK. It’s a “get off me” move. This move is always used defensively except in combos. Abel’s FS however is an offensive move. It should be used after predicting a jump. The reason that they made it useless defensively is simply because Abel already outputs shit-tons of damage, so giving him a free 120 just because his opponent jumped is over-the-top and unnecessary for his design.

Abel’s scariness comes from the simple fact that all of his damage opens opportunities for even MORE damage.

Example 1: You get tornado throw. That’s 200-ish damage plus a free mixup. An opponent REALLY REALLY doesn’t want this to happen so he jumps/shoryus a lot.

Example 2: You predict that your opponent is jumpy so you just keep the f+MK into pokestring pressure going. He eats about 150 damage from the F+MK and some jabs, tries to jump, and eats 150 more. Now he’s worse off than if he ate the grab AND he’s still under pressure!

He already has all of the tools he needs to rape anyone in the cast without a teleport. People with teleports simply require more patience and a few more mind games. They all have reduced health anyways, so it evens out ('cept Bison).

And they can’t give him good footsies, for the same reason he can’t have a great anti-air. If a grappler had that he’d be too good.

CR.MK IS AWESOME

but Zangief has awesome antiair

A quicker jab, a better sweep & COD 2nd & 3rd low should combo for a decent 50/50, so what if some changes would make him top tier someone has to be there why not Abel ? Saying he doesn’t need to be changed seems strange as although he can beat all the other characters he’s still relatively low tier

I think all jucies options up there are viable reasoning. Capcom may do something and they may even nerf TT damage or even range. Considering thats alot of peoples gripes that ive seen is they always complaing about his grab. But capcom would be dumb to nerf it considering every character has that one gimmick that puts them where they are gamplay wise.

+3 on block from a fwd.mk

or a 3 frame jab and he’s set

he doesn’t need much tweeking, his character design is already solid, he just needs faster normals and frame advantage after a fwd.mk

his anti-air game is already fuckin scary if you know how to use it right.

Hey Strider, I guess I played a friend of yours at Evo, I wanna say his name was Wade? He played Ryu. He said you told him about how I played from matches I posted, not cool!

Giving him good footsies might make Abel too good of a character, but one thing i’ve been thinking would be real nice would be a special cancelable st. mp. Especially in the Gief matchup, having this would give Abel a chance for some damage off a normal that doesn’t lose as much as cr. mk. On the flipside, this gives him the ability to combo an ultra off a st. mp, which might be too good.

lol at wade, he went 2 and out and immediately got drunk after that  good stuff

Abel doesn’t need good footsies, hes solid as is, just a couple of tweaks here and there

I never thought of a special cancelable st.mp, that would actually make the Gief match a little more bearable (maybe almost even? maybe)

It would definitely help out the Gief matchup, since it beats lariat and has a generally good hitbox against a character his size. What worries me is giving Abel the ability to combo into ultra off a normal with that kind of range. It only hits a few characters when they’re crouching but still…that’s some serious damage off a poke that’s pretty damn safe to throw out.

i c/s this

Easier f.mk, dash, s.hp links get my vote. I find it very hard to pull this link off consistently.

Although after a while with abel most players execution is good enough to avoid the problem of FS coming out accidentaly, i’d still like the FS motion to be changed to :l::d::db:+:p:

its always been that, no???

edit: oh wait i geddit you mean reverse srk motion lol

seconded

What Juice box said makes a lot of sense, but this guys totally right.

And whats this about ‘that’d make Abel overpowered’ stuff? Being able to compete against Ryu’s, Balrogs and Sagats (all characters with beastly amounts of health, awesome pokes and invincibility framed reversals), based only on move sets dosnt make a character overpowered, it makes him able to compete.

invincible ex-roll would be cool imo, plus that other ish you guys mentioned. Its not like he can juggle into a super and then an ultra like these other easy mode guys, looking at sagat and ryu over there lol
