Off topic: I just woke up and it’s 2:30 here, and I decided to go on GGPO for a bit. Played three scrubs, nothing special. I was shocked to see at least a dozen or so Jap players still playing 3S even though 10K people are dead over there and there’s possible nuclear meltdown. And they’re still playing this. Game is that gdlk.
Lol.
Give me Third Strike or give me death.
Not all of Japan was hit by the earthquake, nor do they have to worry about the meltdown(or they just don’t care), so naturally the areas that weren’t affected don’t have to conserve anything.
this game absolutely, will not, have good netcode.
Truest shit.
Well if it doesnt have good netcode, then what else does it have? Capcom said the game will make 3rd strike fans ‘wet their pants’ in excitement.
I’m willing to bet that they’ve got Ponder secretly working on it. If not that, then Chun’s getting nerfed. If neither of those things then what was the fucking point?
To have a proper port on current gen consoles? Seems like a reasonable point to me.
This should obviously be their top priority, in order to please 3S players. I know we’re just going in circles with speculations, but it would really be a dick move to change something die-hard players have been enjoying for years and expect it to be the standard.
I’m sure Capcom of America and Japan are aware of both the US and JP 3S communities and their thoughts on the game. Call me overly optimistic or maybe unrealistic, but if they are really trying to please the diehard fans, then first and foremost, a proper port with no changes is the key.
GGPO Third Strike netcode isn’t bad at all granted that Ponder doesn’t have access to CPS3 code. If you play people in your respective coast and have everything set-up correctly then you should have an enjoyable experience, IF you treat it for what it is, ONLINE Third Strike. Theres a few things you can do to make your games more enjoyable. Allot of people have the misconception that all they need to do is install the program and put the roms in the rom folder and play, doing this will result in choppy games that just feel either like you’re fighting under water or on clouds with shitty fps.
1.) Computer: It’s 2011, decent video card and dual core processor with at least 1GB of ram. It’s not required but if you’re looking for the best experience, it’ll help.
2.) OS: Windows 7/Vista come default with “Aero” theme, high processing theme with the nice gloss transparent boarders, yeah turn that shit off (windows classic theme). That’ll help with the games FPS consistency.
3.) Internet: Understanding your internet. If you know that you get the periodic lag spike every 10 minutes, probably should tell the person your playing before hand and call your provider to fix that shit, why pay money for bunk net? Wireless, being from your router in your room or stealing some guy across the street, you will not see the best results, it’s NEVER recommended to play on wireless internet in any game and this goes double for a fighting game, and a fighting game without the source code? Yeah lets make that triple. Make sure you’re not downloading, and don’t have any gay trojans/worms/virus’ that download packets to lag your machine or connection.
4.) GGPO: When you log into GGPO and join the 3s channel, click options on the top right and change your smoothing. It defaults on 1 but I’ve had people tell me they were on 0 because they wanted the arcade feel, this takes away all input lag but also makes the game feel REALLY choppy, so you aim to even this out based on the persons ping. This is personal preference and might not be the best for you, but it suits me and you can give it a shot.
Ping 10-25 = Smoothing (1)
Ping 30-75 = Smoothing (2)
Ping 80-115 = Smoothing (3)
Playing someone with 75 ping+ really should be when you draw the line, if you play in that ping you really cant expect to have a good connection and it blows my mind reading people complain about it when I see them playing from CA to NY. (115+ ping)
5.) Ingame Settings: Setting your games blitter can help if you don’t really have a good video card. Go to Video > Select Blitter > and go from there, the first option being the least intensive option for your video card.
Anyway, with that all said, Capcom has full rights to the CPS3 code so you can already expect better quality, the game is based on online play (hence the name 3soe) so you can expect something very playable, but I cant stress this enough, people expecting arcade 3s playing online are crazy, I tell everybody that gets mad playing online the same thing.
GGPO is just a tool, using it for high level games is crazy and you’ll just get frustrated, if you care about losing so much, play under a fake name. I was fortunate enough to live next to arcades and I really only came on to play friends and practice things vs random people, for example if I wanted to get better at jump back parry jump-in attacks, I’d just play somebody ONLY focused on parrying their jump-in attacks, didn’t care about losing because GGPO is just a tool to test shit on real people.
Holy fuck this was long… Tired of people hating on something that I find as a blessing in disguise, I love 3s and I don’t live next to an arcade anymore, if online 3s was completely gone I’d be pretty sad.
Pretty much, metric. I find GGPO totally ok but also totally different. I play on 0 and was very used to it but since improving and actually using those small bits of time/input the choppiness and missing frames are really annoying. Especially with wake-up stuff. It’s like they’re in the animation then suddenly they skip the end of it and appear standing. I’ll try it at 1 frame of smoothing and see if that makes the timing feel more like offline. In nebula (cps3emu) I can hit confirm stuff pretty consistently, on ggpo or even in fba it feels worse. MAME is just like a trainwreck when it comes to inputs it feels. It seems like the thing is only catching inputs at 30fps, like every other frame’s input is just lost to the void.
It’s consistent as long as your connection doesn’t jitter but it is simply different.
For what it is though it’s pretty impressive. If they can make OE actually worth it’s namesake that’d be great but like I said; ultimately it’s about a contemporary port running as close as they can possibly make it to a 990512 machine. The rest is bonus.
Seriously.
If Third Strike: ONLINE EDITION has bad ONLINE play, Capcom are fucking failures. End of discussion.
Capcom are pretty much failures with everything lately except their Resident Evil series. Pretty much every Capcom game in the last 5+ years has been utter garbage.
Yes, but if 3S has bad online play or changes, fuck Capcom for good.
Re5 was pretty trash. Nothing about the game was horror survival.
and the online play is the most frustrating piece of crap ever made.
Capcom needs to step it up.
If Resident Evil 5 is anything like the fourth one, then it can’t be that bad. Personally, I think Capcom still makes good games. Sega, on the other hand, is complete garbage. Outside of AM2 (VF series), I can’t even remember the last good game they made.
re5 wasn’t anything like the fourth one. re4 = gdlk
I miss the classic RE1/2 - dumb camera angles that scare the shit out of you, good music, good story and of course watching a lonesome door swing up when going from zone to zone. Safe room music so niceeeeeeeee.
RE5 was shit.Mercanaries was fun as fuck though in my opinion. There are some proper deep tactics in that mode.
Capcom dont make games the way they used to you cant deny that, but their modern games are still good compared to everything else thats on the market these days.
Monster hunter. case closed on ‘do contemporary capcom games suck’.
And no if OE has bad online it isn’t a failure. It’s distribution is online only, maybe that’s why it’s OE.
If it’s anything but the best console port of 3s created it’ll be a failure.
