Ohh yeesss, a new game would only appease me!!! Capcom make a game for me only please! I want one triple S tier char with a dive kick, unblockable super and one hit death move…
Anytime anyone wants the new iteration they are clamoring for a game to be created strictly for them. When people wanted HD remix released in Japan, those same people wanted to appease themselves eh? No they wanted to see what the Japanese could do with it. Same here. I want to see new character match ups and what people could do in a new environment. This is not rocket science why am I starting to explaining the 5W’s?
BTW with a, most likely, download only game it doesn’t make MUCH of a difference whether or not the crowd plays the game 2 months or 3 years (sorry to burst your bubble). Capcom just wants people to INITIALLY buy it. You are only going to get a certain crowd to buy 3rd Strike the same game from 1999, but you could open your market quite a bit if you added a bit more (Capcom decided it was too risky). I am not saying people would play it any more than 2 weeks, but you will offer something new that they hadn’t played with before, so spending 15 bucks (they have the 3S ROM) wont be an issue. Alot of folks would just try it just to see what has changed. Capcom KNOWS a majority of the people who buy ANY and I repeat ANY download game (which is what I assume this will be), will be in it for the SHORT haul. Don’t fool yourself as that is THE target audience for them, not the 200 people who check this specific forum. Hell even if it was 1000 of the most DIE(TRY)hard “we only want 3S” who frequent this board and plan on buying the game, that wouldn’t even put a DENT into the money need to raise on this game. I’d say even if you had 10,000 “WE ONLY WANT A PERFECT 3S EMULATION” that would be enough money to pay for 2 salaries for people who worked on the game a year. Honestly, the diehards are the minority, but without their support the game would get a bad rep fast, so Capcom needs to try to make them happy, while adding enough for the newbies to want to try their hand at OE.
I know Capcom has already made the decision and decided this is the route, most likely cause they think it too big a risk to really develop anything new cause the market is not there, so they made right (safest) call. Yeah give the people 3SOE to allow them to play the game they wanted on next gen. After that? Do something new. Shake up the 13 year history. Or don’t and close the history books. This forum is seemingly so close minded (and lacking imagination) that even speaking on this seemingly OBVIOUS idea (a 4th edition) is a fools errand… so you have thankfully convinced me it is a waste of “our” time.
I’ll definitely agree that competitive 3s players, the people who insist on an arcade perfect port of 3s for OE aren’t a significant enough amount of people to develop a game for, but I also don’t believe the people who would only try the game if they knew it was a revised version of 3s with gameplay changes.
I personally have said I’m happy to see a 3.4 or whatever. In fact I said I’d rather see a 3.4 than a rebalanced 3.3 because if 3.3 is rebalanced it’s not the same game that has been played for over a decade. But bring on 3.4, for sure. So not only do I not agree with that fella, you’re writing-off most people on this forum as being anti-sequel and close-minded when you haven’t even heard their views on it. Cheers!
You never answered my question about Makoto, by the way.
The contradiction here is hilarious to read. I had to read it a few times to make sure it wasn’t a mistake. Sarcasm doesn’t really work when you’re proving your own sarcastic statement.
You just said people wanted Remix released in Japan so that they could see the Japanese play. How is this not the same as saying you want the game made for you. You want it made for someone else but you want it made in such a way that’s interesting for you to watch. That’s wanting a game made strictly for you and your idea of what’s fun, or in this case (ugh) fun to watch.
I agree with circle masher and I’ve said it before multiple times. If they want to do something new, cool, do it, but make it known it’s new. If you’re going to rebalance stuff then change some things too, add some new music, backgrounds, etc. Go for it fully, don’t give us some half ass rebalance 3.1S. If you’re going to make something new then make something new. If you’re not then don’t.
Stop making ridiculous assumptions about people you’ve never spoken to and obviously haven’t read the posts of. I think most of us want an excellent port that surpasses prior ports because that would make it much easier to be played in settings outside an arcade. It’d do away with everyone playing slightly different versions of the game all over the place and unify everyone under the standard of 3S play which would be awesome. It would bring in new people because they haven’t played 3S before and it’s suddenly available repackaged for the contemporary consumer.
Some of us are also ok with changing the game but if they want to go that route they should be working on some kind of designated sequel to 3S. From what we’ve heard however this is not the case.
I mean how many great Chuns, yuns, and kens do you play in a tournament setting that you really need the game to be changed up? Makoto needing a buff is laughable. Basically what you’re saying is you see these characters a lot and from your very limited scope they’re too dominant. Well that’s great and all but games are designed to be played, not watched and 3S is as great as it is because nothing feels like it was sacrificed to make the game more exciting and interesting just for spectators/people who don’t really care too much. You either like it or you don’t. If you kind of like it but think it needs to be rebalanced you don’t like 3S, you like the idea of 3S. In which case the game you’re looking for is a sequel to 3S, not 3S.
Unfortunately (for you) it doesn’t look like Capcom is interested in giving you what you want.
I think people asking for a longer meter assume it should be draining at the same speed as the original bar, just that it takes longer for him to build it up
I highly doubt you know anything about the CURRENT matchups or you even know what kind of environment 3S is already played at. Why does Capcom need to rebalance a perfectly good game just so that it’s audience can ‘benefit’?
And no we aren’t close-minded. If we wanted a ‘rebalance’ with new additions, call it fourth strike NOT 3SOE. No one’s shaking up any 13 year history, why so that a bunch of new SSF4 enthusiasts get to try it out and then bitch about even more balance changes, then finally quit it altogether just to play TxSF or a new Blazblue?
Yeah the music in the whole SFIII series is great. Such a good vibe. It’d be awesome to have remixes done by the original team but that seems like more than Capcom would bother with
“there are places this game is going for fans where no fighting game (not even our big retail fighting games) have gone before.”
This doesn’t sound like gameplay changes, but it doesn’t really sound like “robust online mode” either, because we’ve already seen that shit. So what the fuck, does 3S give you a blowjob now when you turn the game on? I don’t think some SSF4 style online system is gonna appeal to a broader audience, and I don’t know what’s gonna stop them from playing SSF4/MvC3 to come to this decade-old 2d fighter, even if somehow Yun was mid-tier and Sean had Ken’s SAIII.
Given the tremendous tendency to cater to fetishes in tokyo, it has always surprised me no one has ever put in coin sluts to blow you while sitting down to play your fav arcade game.
As for capcom going where no game for fans has gone before, that’s just good old fashioned lyin…I mean PR.
He only said no fighting game. Not no game. So I’m still going to bank on online community features to the extreme. The game is called 3S ONLINE EDITION. I saw a screenshot of some card thing from MvC3 that shows player rating in various aspects and favorite team, things like that. I’d guess we’ll see something like this but more extensive and a well developed ladder system/league/tournament/whatever other kind of organized competitive outlet you can think of. These are things no fighting game really has. We see bits and pieces but maybe OE will be a test bed for things they’d like to do for future projects like SFXT and whatever else they’re working on.
Honestly New Generation and 2nd Impact sucked. Music and voices sucked. Gameplay was pretty average. I do like the backgrounds for both games and the little illustrations showing your character beating a dude. That’s about it.
Nah 2I music is great and most of new generation.I dont think I really liked it at first but it grew on me and I like how you could see musicians like Hideki okugawa develop styles and influences throughout the series.
so are people still arguing about balance changing? i’m pretty sure they’re gonna keep it arcade port, there’s no reason for them to change it. i just want this game out already, i’m tired of playing crappy ggpo. i would rather pay $5/month than play ggpo.
